Burned & Bruised: The Reality of Dumpster Work
How tight are you making your rear yellow straps
Depends on the load. A typical residential or light construction can I just go hand tight. For anything roughly 2 tons+ I crank them down.
when he paid that fast you know you were too low on price.
What do you think you would you have charged?
@@MAXCODumpsters I am not in your business but if my crew messed up a job and it would all go away for $1000 I would have gone to an ATM and brought u cash money. Quickly
@@robertconkin9944 🤣 Fair enough! It’s never easy knowing exactly how to price out these situations, but this is one we both walked away from happy enough. I’ll likely add a bit more if it happens again, but I’m grateful to not have taken a loss!
Making it happen 💪
Doing my best!
Noti gang! Nice song choice! You’re making it look to easy out there 😎👍🏻
Just keeping it fun out here when I can. 😁
Hey boss! Did you start with a roll off system from the beginning or a dump trailer?
Started with 3 dump trailers. Sold 2 of them when I got into roll offs.
@@MAXCODumpsters awesome!
Where is the video of the truck up on 2 wheels picking up the can?
We used an excavator 👀 No trucks were lifted in the making of this video.
Everyone knows not to load over the top. Wasnt the worst
In this case they weren’t suppose to load it more then about 1/4 full
@@MAXCODumpsters yeah i see that after i could tell that dumpster aint even made for concrete, but neither is my dandy dump and its still going strong 13 years and counting and i bought it used.
@@GRUBB-MUDD As long as I keep it in that 5 ton or under range they hold up fine (assuming they're not dropping giant chunks for 5+ ft in the air 😆), but yeah... I need to get me some concrete cans already.
lol i wonder if i can use these to drift in my fwd 😂
Make sure to film it if you do! 🤣
Why dont places like rumpke use these
Probably a combination of a) it would cost a fair enough to purchase a set for each dumpster and b) they have you sign agreeing to not pursuing damages and don’t care about leaving little scuffs (which you should also have them sign, but adding the protection just shows you care)
Love all your videos brother
Appreciate all the support!
I like your way of thinking, you are a problem solver 👍
Thanks Andrew! Appreciate you joining in.
🚜💪🏻🪨
Appreciate the support! 💪
You handled it like a boss! 🫡
Appreciate it! It’s a lot easier to look calm under pressure when you’re the one editing the video it seems. 😂
Flipping a situation!! Love to see it! 😎👌 🥞
Always looking for opportunities to learn and grow - and hopefully not breaking my s&*! along the way! 😁
I'm surprised you even gave him a chance at redemption. That one was pretty wildly overloaded.
What would Jesus do? 😆
Concrete is a great money maker if you have smaller bins that are designed for concrete. Generally most places you can dump for free. But as you can see it gets heavy real fast. Glad you got it all figured out good job 👍 maybe you will get more jobs from him in the future.
Yeah. My next bin will almost definitely be a small 6-7 yard heavy duty bin. I generally do well with these sorts of jobs, but as we all just witnessed sometimes communication doesn't make it anywhere father then my lips. 😅
@@MAXCODumpsters yep i built a 5 yard but my trailer is only a 7 ton bumper pull so still overloaded by a bit.
Keep paying your buddy for his excavator services and you might consider buying yourself one of them. lol
I want one so bad, I just don't want the payment that goes with it. 🤑
People suck! The workers on site usually don't GAF. $1500? No wonder he paid so quick. That was a lot of wasted time for only $1500 gross. Hopefully you could dump for free and that would make your bottom line a little better. I have learned to just say no to concrete, unless you have a small dumpster, but even then you will still run into problems occasionally.
After reflecting on it a bit I'd actually agree. All in all it was $1,650 gross, would have been $175-$300 for a tandem axle, but I chose the excavator in an attempt to prevent damage to the bin and paid him $375. Dumps for free, and it was only 10-15 miles round trip per load, so something like $50 in fuel cost, and roughly 4 hours of my time start to finish. All in all the potential damages to the bin could have been pursued after the fact if they happened, but I was luck enough to escape mostly unscathed. Just a few dents from the excavation. In a nut shell I netted roughly $1,200 for 4 hours of time and a little bit of frustration. Could have been better, but also could have been waaaaay worse. You could have rented a 20 yard concrete dumpster from a larger company around here for about $400 to do the whole job, so all things consider I didn't end to poorly.
@@MAXCODumpsters Must have missed that part on the excavator cost. Not too bad on that and overall expenses, if you only had a few hours in it. At least you were able to keep your cool and make the best of a crappy situation.
@@BackRoadBound yeah. I’ve had a pretty great track record with communicating my way through these jobs with the 15 yard bins, but as with anything eventually someone’s going to mess it up. 🤣 I may not have mentioned the excavator cost now that you mention it. Always good to have friends with big tools to lend you a hand. Appreciate you taking your time to watch!
Hey Joe! Way to keep your cool in a bad situation. Love the way you handled it! Appreciate you sharing this story!
Thanks Stigs! It's not always easy, but honestly getting worked up rarely helps. Almost always clouds your judgment and leads to poor choices.
Come on... I could have hauled that with my utility trailer. 🤣
You're hired! I'll see you Monday.
👀 No good Mr. Jorge
No good at all!
I’ve heard that the gvwr boost is from tongue weight. Other manufacturers for different industries do this for example Kaufman flatbed 16k trailer is 14k worth of axles plus 15% tongue weight = 16.1k. Some manufacturers even state calculated at 10% or 15% tongue weight. I am not 100% sure this is correct so someone please confirm
I may not be fully understanding of your statement - but I believe you are actually referencing how they calculate payload from the trailer on the truck. For example if you use the 10% figure on the 16k trailer - you’d be using up 1,600 lbs of payload capacity with a full load. It’s possible you know something I don’t, but that’s what it sounded like as I read it.
@@MAXCODumpsters That would technically be tongue weight(but it does subtract from payload and rear axle capacity so calling it payload is fine depending on what you are talking about). Occasionally, on larger trailers, it seems like they(manufacturers of trailers in general) do calculated optimal tongue weight plus trailer axle capacity to get an increased trailer gvwr without higher capacity trailer axles. I dont think I explained it well before
Yep that’s why i built a 5 yard bin 😉
I need one or two foooooor suuuuure…. Buuuuut if you only knew how much I communicated with this client, and the project manager, and the crew… only to show up to this. 😂 He definitely (and totally willingly which was nice) paid for his sins though. Ended up being a nicely profitable job, with a bit of headache.
@@MAXCODumpsters everybody always under estimates the weight of concrete 🤷♂️
@@BentIronBins less of a weight problem, more of a math problem. Original booking was for 350sq ft. Job was closer to 1,000 sq ft+
Loved the video. Very meticulous, great details. Do you know other places that sells the 16 foot long standard rails and reeving system? What are your thoughts about the trailer, evolution welding fabrication is selling?
Shoot me a DM on Insta/FB - to much to say in comments, but it’s a great build. 👍
How is a trailer derated?
When purchased you ask the manufacturer to set the GVWR to a lower number then the specs.
Good advice! We offer many services as we can survive with lack of production. My question is: would you recommend starting with a used setup or go ahead with a brand new set?
It all depends on the deals you can get around you. A year ago all the used equipment was at a premium. Now there’s a lot more people exiting and selling off gear, but a lot of the real desirable set ups may be harder to track down preowned. I do prefer new just to avoid other people’s headaches, but lightly used is not always a bad call.
@@MAXCODumpsters thank you for the input. I was looking to save some money. I looked at a used set. The winch cable was shredded , that tells me the winch was under a lot of stress. That steered me to buy new.
@@zacharyking8329 if you are going with a trailer set up shoot me a DM on insta/fb. I’ll set you in the right direction.
Really good video💯💯💯💯
Hope it helps someone. That wheels been a real thorn in my side. 🤣
NOW GET BACK TO WORK!
I’m going I’m going!
Good friend to have.
Most definitely!
Hopefully thats the end of that problem. I remember you talking about that flat tire forever ago.
I think this wheel issue has been going on since like November 🤪
Was there something wrong with the coupler before?
Converted it from a 1 7/8ths to a 2” so I could get by without pulling my drop hitch or buying another ball for it.
Who ever thought that a flat tire could be fixed with welding. lol
Not I! Thankful Duran ended up mentioning that to me.
I looked 😳
Congratulations, you now have Superman’s laser vision. You just need to figure out how to channel your powers.
@@MAXCODumpsters nice but my new power will corrupt me please take it back 😭

Can you help me out with information on getting a trailer like yours?
Yes, shoot me a message on insta or FB so I can actually share information with you. I’m very limited in YT comments.
I'm wanting to order a trailer like yours. But I can't seem to be able to find it. Also do you have to ask for the green or is that a factory option?? Thanks

Love your website and Docket Too, great video Joe
Thanks for the continued support Andrew!
Yea buddy if i step into the proper century ill likely go with docket it seems like an easier system than DRS.
Having used both I think it’s much more fine tuned and customizable, as well as being a more simple UI.
Super innovative......Docket, DRS, other.....In 2024, we have to start getting creative with pricing structure as our current apples to apples pricing system/comparison will continue to be a race to the bottom. Did you have a background in web development before you got into the waste game?
Nope! Just know what I like and did a TOOOON of tinkering over the last year and a half. I broke a lot of things along the way, but with enough support tickets and research it wasn’t so bad. 🤣
@@MAXCODumpsters 1). do you use AdWords to get visitors? 2). You getting any pushback about that $.07/pound/$140/ton? 3). You have to make pricing concessions for regular contractors?
Look at that fresh haircut. 👊
