Changing The Rear Differential Oil On My BMW F34 340i GT
In this video, the BMW F34 340i GT gets a rear differential service, a very simple fluid change with the proper tools. I also show how to remove the F34 undercarriage bracing (aka the rear tension strut and pull rods) that obstruct the drain/fill plug and harmonic dampener.
This rear differential fluid change procedure can be used for F22/F23/F30/F32/F33/F31 and other BMWs with open rear diffs.

wrong plastic pan 10 nm, greets from germany! (Metall Pan 4+45°)
FCP Euro says 10Nm for steel screws, 4Nm + 45 degrees for aluminum screws. Either way I think those specs are close together and I have no leaks
No, the steel screws are same. No leaks is good 😅
also, why don’t you get a body kit for it ?
@moncefalouane I like the factory body look of the car + there are no good quality body kits for the F34. I may add a lip, diffuser, etc
after owning this car for a while have you had any problems with it ?
@moncefalouane only PCV diaphragm (super easy fix) and the fuel tank purge valve or leak detection module (haven’t fixed yet since it’s not a dire issue)
The middle seat belt at the back should be put back on slightly differently. Other than that looks crazy good.

@@rvalent9366 I’ve seen quotes from people in forums from $300-$1300. All depends on what the shop wants to charge. If you don’t want to DIY, I’d call around to get the best quote. Parts and fluids are only $300 tops in the US.

Can I do it on my 330i 2019 with 110k miles? what you recomend?
If it’s never been done at 110k miles then I would consider not touching it. You’re kind of at the point where it may/may not cause more harm than good. If you decide to do it, I would be sure to get on a strict schedule of doing it. But take all of that with a grain of salt bc I am not a mechanic lol
So do I need to replace the auxiliary radiator because my hose that connects into this & the radiator busted so what might be the problem for the excess pressure that cause that to happen. ?
Interesting. Maybe it was just old and dried out? Hoses get old over time and just need to be replaced. I doubt it’s the fault of the radiator itself. After replacing the hose and putting in fresh coolant, it wouldn’t hurt to make sure the system is bled properly.

I love this car. I have F34 and I will never got rid of this car. That car is special that was underestimated which people are starting to keep open their eyes to have an f34.

In Sweden its illegal to remove the GPF, car wont pass emissions, and bmw started installing them on gas cars in june 2018, my car is from april 2018 so im not sure if i have it, if i dont, i can install a sportscat and still pass emissions. Its like the dpf for the diesel cars, diesel partikel filter, gas partikel filter

silly question, did you leave the car in jack stands while the engine was running during the refill process when you warmed the engine up? when you were inside the vehicle was the car still in jackstands?
haha yes I sat in it while I started the engine, went through the gears, and revved it at 2000rpm. Hopped in/out careful and slow. I waited outside the car for it to warm up while I read the temperature data on my phone. Car is pretty planted when properly on 4 stands.
@@supremegt Recently I started getting a transmission malfunction error. The car drives but in limp mode and I don't know if changing the oil of the tranmission will address the issue. The car is at 145,000 running great except this issue. I probably gotta remove the pan and see whats up later in the day to see what is happening. The Clutch A disrupted error is coming up in ista, any insights you have?
@@JaysonFlores-d1p I am not sure about that error. But generally, I would think that by giving the trans new fluid and a new pan helps to keep it happy. But I suggest to scour the forums to see what others have done to fix your issue.
@@supremegt I would say once the car drives it shifts into the near gear but after downshifting it does it very rough then shortly after into limp mode. I'm almost considering replacing the solenoids while I am at it.

Lol. The grill is there to feed air to the rad. If anything. Put mesh behind to protect from stones. The reason the other side is blocked is because your var is pre opf. You have literally blocked the radiator from the thing thats designed to cool it. Air. The reason the closed side is closed is because it doesnt have a rad there. The opf cars have a secondary rad on the otherside too. Please. Everyone. Do NOT do this. If you are gonna do this, you might as well join up the connectors and remove the rad all together. As this rad is doing nothing now other than having extra water in the system. 😂
@@NickthaGeek not sure if you have a B58 car but as mentioned in previous comments, this is an auxiliary radiator. There are also brake ducts in the same area as this little radiator so it still gets cool air. My temps have been consistent before and after the small plastic cover. Mesh would be a great option as well, especially for the main radiator, since those grill areas are much larger and exposed. Additionally, many B58 cars don’t come equipped with this aux radiator, so it’s not needed to keep the engine cool and happy, however, having it helps the cooling system a small amount by cooling and keeping a bit more fluid in the system.
I just also got a 2018 340i Gt xdrive, does the parts from the regular 340i fit like the downpipe?

I use the aluminum cross member behind the rear differential as the rear central lift point on my 535. Works well and no risk to my diff.
@@kjhnsn7296 yep that works too. I lifted mine from the diff casing a handful of times and no issues, then I found out about the other jacking point afterwards. I think it’s been proven that the diff point is ok, but I agree the crossmember may be a better spot.

Thanks. Just used your vid to change cabin air filter in my 16 335GT. Everything was as you described. But it’s still tricky to work looking up from the foot well. Had to use a mirror to find the tabs holding the filter housing cover.
Manufacturers are lying about service intervals. The business model of reliability has given way to planned obsolescence.
Question I gotta diagnosis test done and they said my transmission pan was leaking if I order this kit from fcp will this fix the pan leak ?
The pan comes with a new seal so it probably will fix it.

You should add that you 100% need the Kies thin wall socket (or similar product). The videos that I watched before didn't mention this. I started with number 6 and got all the way to removing the plug until I realized this. I couldn't figure out why my 14mm 12pt socket couldn't get seated onto the plug until I did a Google search. I had to button everything back up and order the specialty socket.

Totally worth it. A good amount of ppl have had the chargepipe pop loose with the regular couplers.

Lord have mercy my dude I think the word you were looking for is “piece.” But like I stated in the video, my temps were not affected at all after this. Remember, there is a main radiator and this is only a small auxiliary one. Plus, there is plenty of space for outside air to get to that little radiator. Thanks for watching and Peace✌🏽brother !
