@@eyezak_m Having tunnels is perhaps the best reason to go electric. So London's underground ended up with 4 tracks DC. So 2 issues could be solved at once.

Elon Musk is not interested in any trains at all. And, by the way, those trains were replaced by battery trains.

@@eyezak_m Now I'm going to have to dive down a rabbit hole and see just what the emissions from diesel locomotives total out to per annum. So much mindshare for other eco-friendly initiatives while things like this fall through the cracks.

There needs to be more done to assist former employees in the Coal Industry as governments and activists advocate for the removal of Coal Power

​@@eyezak_mThere needs to be more done to retain and, where necessary, relocate workforces of all collapsing production facilities. It's all economic evolution, but released workers are usually seen as cost savings, not the recyclable resources they can be. Think of the telephone operators replaced with automatic switches and where we'd be if they were still required. We all move on, but shouldn't leave others behind.

At Bonanza Power Plant west of Utah State Route 45

Definitely an understatement with how hard this train is to catch haha. I've done five trips out to this train, two were busts, the one back in March had a fairly successful run for someone who was doing it all by themselves (then a mediocre evening run where I was trying to catch up to the train since it left early.) I also went out for a week in June and caught the last train they were running for six weeks! IDK if that was lucky or unlucky considering that took most of my days off work. Something similar tbh back in March. This run on YT left at around 0900 instead of the usual 0800. Definitely stuck with the more well paved and gravel roads for this one since I was bringing a family member for driving/second camera assistance. But if I go back for more in the near future. Definitely want to hike out to some better spots like Mormon Gap, Coyote Basin, and Holumn Pass. But alas, for a Honda Odyssey, definitely have stuck around the more reliable paths lol. The really nasty road, which I'm sure you will recognize, was definitely Road 3460 south of Mormon Gap at the state border to Bonanza, shook the person I was with the first time around lol. Definitely appreciate the info on flexibility! If you look further on my channel I've done a lot of research into DPR. Have a playlist of every video on the platform regarding DPR. And even had the chance a few times out there to talk to people heading the operations at the mine, plant, and railroad. Doing the best I can to document something that will inevitably end within the next few decades at most. Shame I was too young to check out BLMP, Navajo, or TU. But I count my luck for being someone who lives in Salt Lake and also has family nearby this train that helps me be able to get out here more often than others. If you do post any photos or video. @@eyezak_m Five times! Respect for the dedication, hot damn. You're definitely a lot closer than I am to these guys, I drove out there from central Illinois (and my two buddies came from Delaware and North Carolina!) so I envy you in that respect haha. Oh my god that Road 3460 is actually my nightmare, I've never felt such dread every time we turned onto that road lmao it's so damn bad! My car was absolutely not suited for this, it's a 2014 Kia Rio, but she made it through. The hikes and climbs are definitely worth the effort if you go for them, this railroad feels like its best seen from high elevation and photographed almost like landscape photography that just so happens to feature a train in it. Really something special. Bring lots of water if you do hike, that's for sure! haha We did two major hikes/climbs (or at least, they felt major to me, but maybe that's just my low elevation, flat midwestern bias! lol), one good climb up a hillside on the east side of a crossing just south of Dinosaur - right near where 3460 / Colorado 21 intersects with 64 between Dino and Rangely got us a great view of our Monday morning loaded train. The other big one was when we took 3150 / Old Bonanza Hwy away from the power plant, then took that little dirt road 150734 - parked the car down the hill, after the road bows out on Maps view, then hiked just shy of a mile east/northeast and climbed atop one of the ridges there on the south side of the track. Absolutely stunning view from high above of the train snaking through the curves with the Bonanza plant visible a ways in the background. I'm sure you've seen Mike Danneman's Deseret photos on Flickr, his shots titled "Departing Bonanza," "East out of Bonanza," and "Colorful milepost 31" are about where we were. We shot on a ridge a little closer to our car than he did, but we were within probably 300 feet of his location. For someone like me who never has to climb much of anything or really does any hikes, well, anywhere, this was a crazy challenge but the rewards were so worth it. Love to see the dedication to documenting the DPR though! I didn't take any videos, but I shot stills and really milked every photo spot for what I could, suffice to say lol. I'll be dripfeeding those onto my Flickr eventually - I'm posting a photo a day and working up from the start of our trip with RoadRailers and other shots along our 19 hour drive west, so a few Deseret shots will go up later this week or next week - but I've also got all of them uploaded to my personal website already. I love seeing other people enthusiastic about these niche little railroads, they're so underdocumented and underappreciated. I'll definitely be finding my way back out here again some day - hell if for nothing else, my wife wants to visit the dinosaur national moment anyway haha - so who knows, maybe we'll bump into each other hunting for E60s! lol

The E60s have about the same starting traction as a modern AC traction diesel (i.e. GEVO, SD70), impressive for DC traction from over 40 years ago. A modern AC traction 6 axle electric loco would likely put out dramatically more torque, but they don't exist. The strongest european electric locos are usually only putting out around 90k starting torque because they're 4 axle and geared for 100+mph as they usually pull double duty on freight and passenger. Freight trains in Europe are also a lot smaller.

Lolnope. The common stating tractive effort for a random Bobo from Europe is 220k lb/ft, and you get around 190k at 50 mph. Our Cocos ars around 290k to 370k.I drive the Eurodual, it has 368k starting and 260k at 40 mph

Been a thing in Europe for 100+ years, used to be a thing in the US until the 1950s, there were a lot of electric mainlines in the eastern US in the pre-war era.
