Could you please share how much the TOTAL cost was to have your home built on the slope in AKLD. It would be so very helpful for those of us that are about to embark on a similar journey in NZ. ...I can't even imagine what the retaining walls cost.... So, if you don't mind sharing it would help to know what the total cost was.

Contract companies.. they're the same any part of the world, I guess.. Been thru similar clownery two years back.

As a Kiwi I am absolutely horrified to hear this happened in New Zealand. So glad you've at least got a house to live in now and can focus on gaining control of your finances again, but as someone who is very keen on having his own home built here, this doesn't fill me with confidence at all. At the very least, I will take your lessons to heart and do my best such fraud under control. Thanks so much for sharing your story.

What a journey , just finished watching all 25 videos this morning. Thank you this is definitely a guide to building on a slope , we bought a beautiful 0.82 acre slope and super excited and scared for this new journey. But your videos gives us strength and motivation to see the end results , just like your beautiful home.

Thank you for so eloquently depicting your family's journey. This is indeed an eye-opener for me to hear a first-hand account. And now it is there for everyone to see and learn. I only can imagine the massive amount of effort that had gone into producing these videos during these incredibly stressful times. Thanks for this amazing set of videos. We are just starting our journey of building a lake house on a hillside in Canada. Hearing the challenges you’ve gone through has made us better equipped to tackle our project. Thank you for sharing your experience! Honestly a 25% margin on price increases is ridiculous. And the build company wasn’t willing to negotiate it? 10% is far more reasonable. Especially since the price increases isn’t going to increase the build company’s overhead by much. The only cost involved for them is a bit of repricing and variation processing. Seems really unethical…

We are looking at the prospect of a hillside build and it is motivating and terrifying to see your project take shape. Good luck with the rest and thank you for sharing!!

Thanks, yeah a build involves so much that we didn’t know in advance. Really wish we’d taken it on with an independent builder so we’d have more control. Good luck with your build!

Really enjoying your journey, all the ups and downs. My husband and I live in Australia and are going through a lot of the same issues. We are still waiting on council. And have made the decision to build the home ourselves due to the continues price rises.

Wow you guys are resilient- we brought a steep site - then Nelson floods and slips - the ocean view will be worth it - it’s a tough time going forward with high bank fees and inflation - geotech this week amd first home plans - very excited - thank you for your videos
