At least 1 year Panini Xr Football put the Exact Date and Game on the back of the card. That was cool...!!

Panini is basically a lame duck company and they will undoubtedly do anything to grift in as much money as possible because licenses were basically ripped from their hands ...That being said they were lazy and not forward thinking and allowed that to occur.

I thought this would be an informative piece. As someone who just recently returned to the hobby, it came across as belittling and has the gatekeeper vibe of a 90's collector.

I wish I could find the screen cap I sent to Mike and EP, but someone ripped a jersey card on twitter like a year or two ago showing this very thing...definitely not new.

I'm not a sports card guy at all and I always wondered what was stopping them from cutting up any jersey and sticking it in there.

This is what drives new collectors from the hobby. You’re spending a lot of cash on these cards and card packs, but the company making them doesn’t even guarantee the relic tie to the player. Despite it being on the back of the card in super fine print, people are not paying attention. Especially if it’s a kid or an adult buying it for a kid. I think there is a degree of assumption (I know the saying) but if you’re going to put a relic on there with a player’s name and picture isn’t one to assume that the relic is tied. Despite what the fine print says I think it is borderline fraudulent, especially if it’s a hall of famer card with some no name relic. If the relic is pointless, don’t even bother.

Your talking like they are not being deceptive about the way they are selling and marketing these cards.

Just because it's common knowledge that they do this doesn't mean. People shouldn't be mad that they are. However if you are mad they do this then stop buying a shitty product.

Why does the hobby out any value on relics that are not from not from any game or event? If its not at least worn by player pictured on the card it's worth nothing to me. Having these non game or match worn relics in multi thousand dollar products is CRAZY!!

My conspiracy is that Fanatics cut off Panini from game worn gear.

This is good for the hobby when a relic is pulled and later the card gets cut in pieces to pull out what is underneath the relic Money well-wasted!

Just bonkers. Totally support people discussing the issues of non associated and incorrect memorabilia. Slightly on topic, but did you notice the duplicate (suspected fake copy) Saquon Barkley NT shield was recently sold. Laziness from the manufacturers and those paid to authenticate the products.

There's no point in tearing open a basic relic, but I think its shady when the card companies are using other players jerseys on cards that say game used. It's hard to trust the card companies when they were buying fake game used items for their cards in the 2000s. They've gotten a lot more careful with the wording on the back of the cards. If you're not familiar, google "bradley wells game used". People have spent jail time for selling fake jerseys to card companies. Which patches are really game used? Why won't the card companies disclose where they're getting the jerseys from?

A lot of people in the hobby today didn't collect during a previous era of collecting when this stuff became more visible. It's funny to say 2013 or 2014 as a different era, but it's true. The pandemic saw a rather large influx of new collectors, or investors (largely grifters who had decided to move onto cards as their next grift to attempt to have influence on), and for most of these people, a lot of the previous issues were never addressed or widely well known with these new collectors. Why would most of these "Investors" want to have these types of things visible while they were taking advantage of their new endeavors? I mean, they wouldn't. So I think that's why so much of this appears to be news to a lot of folks. They were not into collecting when this shady nonsense began happening.

I don't care if it is a napkin relic. I don't care if it is game used. If the player on the card wore it any time I am ok with it. Even that low bar doesn't seem to be met.

Lots of people don't "know something" ... you've known it for years. Not sure why that's weird. You found out at some point in your life and imagine somebody beside you said "how do you not know that?" ... kinda unfair ... People not reading backs of cards time old tale. Also ... “not associated with any game or event” and no mention of player .... it better be the damn player on the front of the card. If player is mentioned in the previous phrase, then you probably should of read the back of the card.

Anyone buying these grossly overpriced and over-printed products are part of the problem. The hobby needs a huge reset. I am amazed at the prices people are paying for unproven players.

Dan. You’re wrong. A lot of the cards only state that it’s note game or player worn, not that it doesn’t come from the player. You sound like a Panini fanboy in this video. Good on these people for continuing to expose Panini for being lazy and deceitful. This is a poor take.

I'm sure in two years when Topps is putting out 4x the amount of product with NBA, MLB, NFL, WWE, Star Wars, Marvel, Disney, GPK..etc it will be better.

How are you surprised? Do you think everyone in the hobby has been in the hobby for over 5 years. Or collectors 5 years ago might be 10-13 years old then and weren’t on social media. You think every collector watches and listens to podcasts and RUclips? Stop blaming us and blame the companies for still deceiving old new collectors.

Main problem is so many influencers pushing this as a new issue just for clicks, some of the thumbnails and posts I've seen are simply laughable.....

I think they fixed the problem hahahah 90% of all patch products are not even player worn anymore! White Napkin patches on 2023 National Treasures not from any player or event thats just funny. I remember when patches actually meant something (even then apparently not)

I just love how Topps and Panini use old pics of Messi and Ronaldo on new modern cards and trying to dilute the pre modern card values or putting RC on cards that are no RC cards by any means. scammers. not even gonna get into the 1000 parallels and numbered cards of the same card! Autos same thing how many autos are there of the same player and card?? hundreds ! these things are not rare. I rather buy old messi ,cr7, dinho , R9 , zidane cards from late 90s early 2000s when there was one card and those are hard to find, like the REAL rookies megacracks. this modern trash is gonna set back this hobby decades like it did in the 90s.
