Thank you for having this video up. Used this to get the ladder in my shed up to something that'll be useful for a while. Previous owner had just used nails to "secure" the steps to the sides of the ladder .... It was ugly. Note to anyone that does this: the section at 0:45 when breaking out the wood bits, if you make your cuts about a 1/4 inch apart they break out VERY easily. I was able to get more than half way with just getting my chisel down the side and then leveraging it to start breaking them out.
What kind of wood did you use for this project?
what size pins did you use?
I’m so glad I found your build. Very easy, simple, and looks great! We found out that building the base first then flipping it upside down, it makes a perfect jig for assembling the sides.
nuttin but love....i just made 14 of these tonight after watching the video today!
One of the best no-nonsense films on YT. Thank you . T
Very helpful, thank you for making it.
Great video. Thank you for beautiful Christmas decor ideas. 😊
You are so welcome!
Not all that talk, please!
Amazing. And without an annoying American who just talks and talks!
For some reason mine tree isn’t going together. Does it matter if I made the cuts with the board lying flat instead of on its side
Great video and jig and an easy to follow tutorial just got you a new sub
What angle did you set?
22.5 as shown in the video.
This is one of the best videos I have ever seen! Straight to the point and it so easy to follow
Thank you so much for your kind words! I'm really glad you found the video helpful and easy to follow.
Please, can you give me the measurements of the narrow part ?, give us the one of the wide part only
Now put some LED lights on the back of it.
What’s the overall height of this once built?
As far as I remember, if the "branches" are 6" (150mm) long, the overall height will be 15" (380mm). If you want a smaller size, cut the "branches" to 4" (100mm) long, and the overall height will be 10" (250mm).
@ thank you for quick response!! If I wanted to make it taller, would I just make each cut longer or would you recommend adding another “branch” ?
@@T90337 I think you can go either way; it probably depends on how tall you want it to be. I would suggest making the sides first and then measuring the bottom cross part to ensure a nice, tight fit.
What did you use to stain each one?
Hi! I used a "walnut" wood stain for the brownish colour and aluminium paint (the kind used for heating system radiators) for the silver-coloured Christmas trees. I experimenting with different colours, paints, and techniques to achieve different surface finishes. The base material is just inexpensive pine wood, so if you're not happy with the result, you can easily go over it with a different colour or lightly sand it down to create another finishing effect.
@@craftyshednice one thank you, if there anything else you can put on, if someone was to use real tea lights? I know it’s not ideal to use a real naked flame near wood, but some people would do it 😂… anything to make the surface fire retardant?
Nice videos 🎉 What is th4 thickness of the wood? 2 cm?
Yes, approximately 2cm. Thank you for your question.
Great videos, easy explanation, and finally, someone who tells the mm and not just the useless inch measurements 😅 thanks 😊
Glad it was helpful!
What measurements would you use for a 9cm wide board
I really wish the video would provide the name to the channel...
🤣🤣🤣
I'd like to know how you tied those strings from the Christmas balls because that is driving me crazy.
Great question! I actually didn’t use the string that comes with the baubles. Instead, I used a longer string from a bobbin, tied it securely, and then trimmed off the excess. Hope that helps!
You by far have the best video cause you show the exact measurement points and overlap measurements
Thank you so much! I'm glad you found the detailed measurements helpful-that means a lot! 😊
Very nicely done!! My shop kids are going to build these as a fundraiser!!
That is awesome!
wat do you mean by 6 3/4"
It's the length of the one board at the top that "overlaps" the other 6" piece. So from the longest points, you need 1 piece that's 6 3/4 and 6 that are 6 even. Then one 12" for the bottom.
Love the hanging ball idea. Never thought of that. Great video. New subsriber.
Thank you so much for your kind! I really appreciate your support!
良いなあ 可愛い❤😂 私にも作って下さい🥰🥰 日本から❤
what is the width of each tree
I just checked the dimensions - width is 7 inches (180mm).
Que hermoso ❤️🤩❤️🤩❤️
I’ve been watching a lot of tree building videos and yours is the most intuitive. I like the cutting guide and the ability to easily scale the dimensions without getting into heavy math. Thanks much!
Thank you very much!
Nice work
what is that drill bit called
Hi! The bit used for bigger holes is called a hole saw, while the bit for smaller holes (like for tea lights) is called a Forstner drill bit.
@craftyshed it's the drill bit which makes the hole for the ball ball to hang from
@@jasonhorseman3041 That's called "hole saw"
@@craftyshed not that one, the tiny hole
@@jasonhorseman3041 Okay, now I understand. That's a countersink drill bit, they come in different sizes and configurations. I use the cheapest one, just to get cleaner hole edges.
I missing the part where you hid the light cords...everytime I go back and look at it I think I have it but don't...lol
Hi! You're right - I totally forgot to show how to hide them when I recorded the build of this decoration. At the bottom of the very back piece, I made a tiny 'keyhole' connected to the edge that allows the wire to pass through. I did the same for the second section.
@craftyshed thanks so much, I figured something like that but couldn't tell in that portion where the vid goes a little quick..Now I can finish it tonight after work..
awesome, merry christmas tree. i love this simple yet effective idea. it will look great on the desk
Thank you for your comment; you are right, they look great on the desk.🎄🎄🎄
Totally cool, I must say. I'm not a wood worker. They say you know when someone is so good because you think you can go and copy it, but it's not as easy as it looks. You do make it look easy. Simple tools, simple but great ideas. I just love them. Thank you for sharing. gb
Thank you so much for your kind words!
Wonderful
Im sorry, cant get past the nails
Hi Janis! I saw your video last year and saved it but never got around to building. This year I am and just did my first tonight. Not perfect, but not too bad. Question, are you nailing from the inside of the tree so it doesn’t show? I did the outside and obviously brad holes are showing. Any advice?
Hi! I would suggest using a little bit of wood filler and sanding it afterwards. And yes, I am nailing from the inside, so the only visible marks are on the top peak and bottom.
@@craftyshed thank you!!
I love these trees. Can you tell me what you used for the stain? And the color? Thank you!
Hi! I used walnut-coloured wood stain, and for the silver ones, I used aluminium paint-it's usually used for home heating system radiators.
Where are you finding your small Christmas balls everything I find is to big I don’t what to make the holes any bigger they are 2 1/8 I have no problem finding balls for the small holes and help would be appreciated thanks bill have a great day
Hi! One year I got small baubles from our local craft store, another year I got them from groceries store. You can search on Amazon for mini Christmas Baubles, I think these should work - amzn.to/3BEOLZz
What are the sizes you cut?
Hi! The measurements of the longest edge are approximately 3", 5", and 7".
I am using a 1x8x1 I can’t find a 1x9 how far are you drilling your holes from top and bottom of board and side to side and what size drill bit are you using I was using 2 1/8 on bottom and 1 1/2 on bottom any help would be appreciated thanks again I like your work great job bill
Hi! I don't have any specific numbers. I would say just try one first to see if it works or not. You need to find very small baubles or other decorations first. Then pick a hole saw according to the bauble/decoration size. Position the hole saw on the wooden triangle (and mark it) to see where it should go, so there is enough material left to hold everything together.
Wouldn’t a 1x9 be a 1x10 technically? Since the real measurements of a 1x10 are 9.25 .
@danniellemarks4390 In the video the wood width measures a little over 8.5 inches. It went too fast to get an exact measurement. He could have been using a board he previously cut down from another project. Or, in another country they may have a 9 inch board.
This was a good explanation without a lot of fluff! Great job. I did notice at about 3:57 into the video it looks like the tree you are showing is nailed from the inside instead of from the outside. I like that look. If that's the case then the only outside nails showing would be at the peak and the base. Regardless, a very helpful video. Thanks
Thank you for the kind words! Yes, you're right, the tree is nailed from the inside, leaving the outside nails visible only at the peak and base. Glad you found the video helpful!
careful with the long branch at the top. everyone says to measure the width of your stock and add that to the length, this is incorrect. My stock is 5/8 inch and the added length was actually 7/8 to create an even branch matching the shorter one adjacent to the long one. Check it out on your own. determine it empirically (set it up and measure it) if you need.
Thank you for your comment. You are right about that. I usually do it in a similar way to what you explained.
wanted to say thanks for your videos I wanted to ask on the Christmas trees video my miner saw don't move forward how can I make the Christmas trees can I do it with circuit saw skill saw
Thank you for your question. I think it is possible to do with a skill saw, but I wouldn't recommend it. It will be difficult to safely cut small parts, maintain precise angles, and the edge may end up splintery.
Great presentation! Wish more videos were like this.
Thank you.
Wow great idea! what kind of paint did you use? do you have a link? thanks
These are awesome! 😀 What type of wood & which sizes are you cutting in your vid? TY!
Hi! I am using planed pine wood, 9"x1" (220x22mm), sourced from my local hardware store.
@@craftyshed TY so much for your reply! Will you make these again this year? Do you have other Xmas wood projects on the go? 😀
Nice easy projects! Love the commentary!!🤐
Thanks! 👍
