    Thank you for having this video up. Used this to get the ladder in my shed up to something that'll be useful for a while. Previous owner had just used nails to "secure" the steps to the sides of the ladder .... It was ugly. Note to anyone that does this: the section at 0:45 when breaking out the wood bits, if you make your cuts about a 1/4 inch apart they break out VERY easily. I was able to get more than half way with just getting my chisel down the side and then leveraging it to start breaking them out.

    What did you use to stain each one?

    • @craftyshed
      @craftyshed 2 месяца назад

      Hi! I used a "walnut" wood stain for the brownish colour and aluminium paint (the kind used for heating system radiators) for the silver-coloured Christmas trees. I experimenting with different colours, paints, and techniques to achieve different surface finishes. The base material is just inexpensive pine wood, so if you're not happy with the result, you can easily go over it with a different colour or lightly sand it down to create another finishing effect.

      It's the length of the one board at the top that "overlaps" the other 6" piece. So from the longest points, you need 1 piece that's 6 3/4 and 6 that are 6 even. Then one 12" for the bottom.

      Hi! I don't have any specific numbers. I would say just try one first to see if it works or not. You need to find very small baubles or other decorations first. Then pick a hole saw according to the bauble/decoration size. Position the hole saw on the wooden triangle (and mark it) to see where it should go, so there is enough material left to hold everything together.

    • @danniellemarks4390

      @danniellemarks4390 In the video the wood width measures a little over 8.5 inches. It went too fast to get an exact measurement. He could have been using a board he previously cut down from another project. Or, in another country they may have a 9 inch board.

    This was a good explanation without a lot of fluff! Great job. I did notice at about 3:57 into the video it looks like the tree you are showing is nailed from the inside instead of from the outside. I like that look. careful with the long branch at the top. everyone says to measure the width of your stock and add that to the length, this is incorrect. My stock is 5/8 inch and the added length was actually 7/8 to create an even branch matching the shorter one adjacent to the long one. Check it out on your own. determine it empirically (set it up and measure it) if you need.
