This Squirrel comes every day for his nut's, we try to make him work for them a little harder to keep him interested.

My Mother, nee Elizabeth Ayton, grew up in Barnsbury terrace and moved out around 1960. Maybe distantly related to Aytons undertakers on the Caledonian Rd. Anyone know of her?

Great video Ken. Shame many of the buildings with character got knocked down - and replaced with horrid, faceless, post war architecture. If only the planners and builders had got together and worked on refurb - rather than new build. Just doing a little digging into my ancestry. My Mother, nee Elizabeth Ayton, lived at Barnsbury Terrace until 1960. Apparently, distantly, related to J. Ayton undertakers - possibly removed to Australia. Anybody got any leads?
My Mother, nee Elizabeth Ayton, lived in rented accommodation in Barnsbury Terrace , before moving to Kent in 1960. There is still John Ayton undertakers on the Caledonian Rd , long since sold on ; v distant relations apparently . Maybe I should do a bit of ancestor reseach while I can -not sure how to go about it
WTF Islington Building's memories... Jesushchrist is there any hope?????
My wife moved to Wales where I live with her parents from here in 1962 when she was 14 - aarrrggg Just think, if they had remained I would never have marred her, and as the old saying goes 'you can take the people out of london, but you can't take the london out of the people - and to this day her TH's still get a bit iffy, and her 'through' still comes out as 'froo'
My grandmother Jessie Blythe was first female mayor of Islington in 1938.She was also Labour Councillor and a Justice of the Peace. My mum was her Mayoress. Dad was also born in Islington in 1916.I think I recognised some of my relatives in the photos ,but not sure at the moment. Thanks for posting.

Hi forme ther my love and home
Used to go to a folk music club in the Islington area back in the mid 1980's. Can't recall the name of it but a short walk from the Tube.
@ 3.59 is that Alan Henson?
Does anyone remember the greasy spoon “caff” that was by Highbury fields in one of the houses. Just along from where the Barclays is. I swear it was in one of the beautiful houses that start just there, but there’s no sign of it.
Hello, it was run by two older ladies. I think it was called the seven steps. Odd as it only had six leading up to it. It was almost opposite the open air pool. Walter Sicket had an art studio at number One about 20 properties to the right of the café. The superior café was around the corner near Caliberia road.
@@patoriordan7652 amazing ! Thank you.
@@patoriordan7652 I remember that cafe I used tk Go there in the 1970s. It would make a great cafe now because of its location overlooking the fields.
I used to have lunch at the Seven Steps sometimes - in the 70's or 80's [can't remember exactly]. The building is still there, of course, 3 Highbury Place. It has been converted back into a private house (apart from the ground floor window). To be honest, I stopped going there because I began finding the occasional hair in my food.
Thank you, lots of great memories, i used to live in St Peters St and get things for my Mum at Jack and Mary Powell shop, always had a smile on their faces and chatted to a scruffy young lad.
Mary Powell was also the mayor of Islington.
Thanks for that, I left Islington in 1985 but still remembered a lot of those places in the video. You can take the boy out of Holloway, but you cant take Holloway out of the boy.
💛👊

My family were from Islington. I once saw a film about my great grandfather William Charles Hagland. He was a local celebrity in the 1930's and famous train driver.I cant find it now. Any ideas.?
Does anybody remeber or have any pictures of Probyns ( Big Bottles) in Essex Road Islington approx 60 years ago ?
Remember probyns well, as i lived in the next st, we used to play football at the back and use the fire exit as a goal, when it shut we managed to get inside and have a look around,
Excellent work, nice one
