This one has been requested for a while. Layering is not easy to explain, and I may do a follow-up for this, but here's a look at the process in which I write a melody and layer up my synths. 0:00 - Intro 1:38 - Bass Processing 4:50 - Melody writing 18:56 - Layer Processing Come and learn production with me: discord.gg/NSSjSKH4EJ Check out my music and socials! - linktr.ee/mentaofficial.uk

How to create a UK Hardcore Lead (Sound Design & Processing)
I ❤a low bass.
Love it, it has that 2000’s kinda style with the lead, deffo gonna buy this when it’s out 😍
Thank you! 🔥🔥
Awesome! So what do you always imagine the volume difference between kick and bass (TOP) to be?
The top bass has more perceived volume so I have it quieter, but the amount depends on the bass. I just do it by ear until I think it's balanced right
Thank You!

Track at 59 mins is just great. Riff was amazing
Needs finishing but should be on streaming by the end of the year 👀
Do you resample the consolidated bass afterwords when covering the rest of the song's bassline, or do you just cover the entire bass part and then consolidate the whole thing?
If I have to consolidate the mid bass for any reason then I will bounce the entire bassline down and pick the best sounding instance of it to use in the track. I find the nuance of how the layered bass reacts to different notes out of the synths is usually cleaner and sounds better than resampling.
28:06 how to group all the pitch bends in one automation. Just to add another question to this, can you link other synths I.e "spire" to the same automation? Which is even handier if your layers with other synths.
Yes of course. You can link any parameter from anything in FL Studio and tie it to one single automation clip if you wanted
Yeah all sorted now, cheers man. Something as little as that can be a massive help.
A new Menta tutorial? What a great way to start the day. Awesome 🎉
thnks for this video
great job mate!
Thanks mate, was looking forward to this one!
Thanks for the tutorial. Is this song released?
This song was made just for the purposes of the tutorial, so nope! 😅
@@mentaofficialuk oh you should release it!
Thank you so much for putting this together Matt. I requested this yesterday and just a couple of hours later it was available. You're super fast haha
You caught me at a good time 😅 I hope it works out well for you
@@mentaofficialuk It worked very well for me already. I already moved my latest project to this template and I was able to progress faster than usual which is very nice. Can't wait to finish my Suzume UKHC version.
😍👌🏼🎵
really helpful mate thanks!
Hey what's the discord? As its not letting me add into the group via the link. Thanks
Hey mate! Sorry about that. I've checked the link and it should still be working. Try this one: discord.gg/NSSjSKH4EJ
@@mentaofficialuk sorted thanks!
Nice man!
you know you have your vocal sent to a reverb and then a delay. you have another bus set up for compression. are you sending the vocal bus to that bus next to the reverb and delay? sorry its a bit confusing haha. i normally have a vocal bus where i do all the processing and then reverb and delay exactly the same but i haven't got that 3rd bus, you've sent the 3rd one to a premaster? i don't understand why this is? lol hope this makes sense. cheers. p.s your mixer looks insane with all those channels haha
My vocals are processed similarly to my leads. I have a vocal bus which processes the vocals before delay/reverb, usually to clean up before processing. Then I have the vocal bus going into the delay and reverb sends. The "dry" vocal bus from the start is then sent along with the delay/reverb sends into final post processing vocal bus. This is where I process the "wet" vocal, i.e. the vocal with delay and reverb on it, so it's all processed as one element. As for the pre master. That's just something every mixer channel gets sent to to do some general processing before it hits the master chain. I hope this all makes sense!
@mentaofficialuk no that makes perfect sense pal, its great to see how other producers work. cheers for the tips 👍
Amazing 😎😎!
Hey just discovered your channel. Do you still go live producing uk hardcore? I´d love to watch some streams
Thanks! Yes I do, there's no schedule so it's just whenever I have time and I'm in the mood... It always gets announced on my discord a little bit in advance 🤙
I actually liked both of the melodies tbf. I think it also has to do with the lead sound you use and how you implement the reverb/delay, some leads would compliment a faster melody with more notes more than a slower one. A lot of clubland style ukhardcore has a lot of the interval jumping type melodies and they generally don’t have any gaps between the notes and they are my favourite type of hardcore melodies.
where do you find the vocals? i can only find a small 5 second samples
You can find vocals on Splice, and also on marketplaces like Vokaal, Voclio etc. Mine are usually sourced from here
@@mentaofficialuk thank man! also keep up the good work with the music!
Thank you much mate, exactly what i was looking for as usual!
Another great tutorial. Thank you, my man ❤ You're awesome!!
Just realised I didn't explain the difference between the two melodies that well. The main reason the second one is better is because the rhythm allows breathing room whereas the first iteration of the first melody which you watch me write lacks any breathing room. It's slightly too many notes, slightly too congested. Once I make the changes at the end you'll notice I've actually added breathing room. I hope that clears things up.
That is beautiful 😍👌🔥🔥🔥
awesome
This is awesome. Will buy this soon, Also have you considered making another UK/Happy Hardcore track from scratch please?
Absolutely, it's on the list. Currently trying to figure out how to do it as a video series, but it could end up as another live stream with vod 🤙 Which do you prefer?
@@mentaofficialuk Hello, there. Just bought the template and it's working nicely alongside with the Stock plugins. There's some plugins I need to download but it's not a problem. I'd defintely say a vod with tinestamps would be nice.
+ use this template as a starting point of the track making process
Would be interesting to see a tutorial going about creating those portamento melodies
tell me your laptop specs bro
I'm not using a laptop bud. But the important stuff is: i7-9700k RTX 3070 Corsair Vengeance 32GB 3200mhz Currently planning an upgrade though
was expecting the song to drop hard but the contrast wit ur soft voice and the heavy bass is just too lit haha
Brilliant stuff mate hope you keep them comming there is. It enough people willing to show how they make music in this kinda detail
Hi, i was wondering, can i get in contact with you. I would like to do a hardstyle remix of this song.
Awesome stuff 🙌 Quick question 🤔 I see that you chords are reaching 0db while you play them on thier own, does the whole track sample clip while everything is playing? If not, I'm interested how you have this set up. Thanks 🙏
No the chords don't clip. We're working in digital so the fact it's clipping on its solo channel is irrelevant. It won't change the sound or cause clipping in any way. It goes through several buses before hitting the premaster and subsequently the master. In general, the final chord group after all post processing usually hits around -18db in the way I have things set up. Hope this helps!
@@mentaofficialuk Thanks for the reply 🙏 It sounds really nice and clean 👌
1:10 I actually really like the old melody but I guess the slower melodies are the way to go if you’re wanting to go for that big reverb hairstyle type track
Best i seen!!
Many thanks sharing this , I’m new to it and gradually picking stuff up as I go along , these tutorials of your favourite artists are gold, so thank you so much
😍😍
🙌🙌
Do you mix your LeadChords slighty under the leads or the same level ? - Also - how do you compress everything ? Do you Compress´ the Lead/Chord Bus (seperated) or do you compress it in the Final BUS alltogether ? or both ? :)
Also keep up the good work and send some Demos to Tweekacore ;P see you in Electric Fox soon :D
Haha one day! Yes, chords are usually -3/-4 db under the lead stack. Compression at all stages. If you check out the layering and processing leads video on my channel it goes through all the processing. It's changed a little since then, but it's all largely the same
What a great video mate! ❤
What happened with this track mate? Did you finish it? Had a nose in the Discord but can't see anything about it, unless I'm completely blind. I have been sat here for almost 5 hours watching this video Sooooooooo informative. Makes me wanna dust off my copy of FLStudio.
Yeah, the track hasn't been touched since this stream. I haven't had time to hop on another stream to do the second half yet. I'll message in the discord in advance of when I do the next stream but I definitely have a lot of changes I want to make to it
Great tutorial bro!
It's cool that you make some really long videos like these because we can also go to parts that are interesting to us, thank you so much 🙌
I have not watched the whole thing, but thank you so much for making a video like this! I love watching long videos of some ones process! Keep making great videos!
The copy and paste you do simple, and moving down octave , hoe you do that from piano roll hahahaha
It's all in the manual. Octave up and down is CTRL + Up/Down. Copy/Paste is CTRL + B
Brilliant , I’ve just started fl from korg gadget on switch hahahah, totally daunting experience I’m finding, picking up loads so thank you. How long you been creating? And how do you know what to use and when ? We’re you overwhelmed at first
Enjoy the process! I've been producing on and off for 15 years. I can't really say much more than practice, practice, practice. You pick things up as you go. There's a lot of tutorials out there and the manual is worth reading.
@@mentaofficialuk many thanks for replying, can I ask where you mostly grab your presets from, want a lot of samples featured in your track Didn’t want to grow up, brilliant
@@gaving321 I use a lot of the Stonebank and Technikore presets as well as a lot of trance-based stuff from Freshly Squeezed. As for samples used in Didn't Wanna Grow Up specifically? It was a while ago, so without opening the project I think it was just a mixture of Splice and Freshly Squeezed sample packs mostly. Few vengeance samples sprinkled in too.
mate this is amazing! As someone that is addicted to your tracks its cool to see how you process your leads :D
Thanks for the support ❤️
Nice one. Where did you get the samples from?
It's a mix of Splice, freebies, the Stonebank packs and some Fracus & Darwin stuff 😊
@@mentaofficialuk Nice. Could you perhaps tell me what are the names of sample packs you used for Fracus & Darwin? Also, could you please make a tutorial on how to make UK/Happy Hardcore track from scratch for beginners like myself.
@@sammpaul Yeah I've got both the 2020 Hardcore Essentials and the 2023 one. I'll keep that one in mind, thanks for the suggestion!
@@mentaofficialuk Cool. Please, if you do the tutorials would be so good because I'm learning a lot from you.
