If something in the roof vent line is blocking the vent line , (dead bird, debris, etc ) would all fixtures be equally effected? Or is there a chance , some fixtures will drain slow . Others will work normal ? Because a toilet for example has its own vent built in. Right ?

I usually use the letters to line them up with the little lines on the hub so I don’t leave a sharpie line on the pipe

Great info. Can I add a toilet 14’ above on (2nd story) , a toilet on concrete slab using 3” wetvent only 3:15 between the 2 toilets ? This being 4 FU on the wetvent. I have a 2” dry vent above 2nd story. All other fixtures are on separate grey water drain.

  • @WTGN12

You can only have 4 fixture units on a 2” wet vent IF it’s not serving a toilet. IF IF IF IF it’s not serving a toilet. With a toilet then it’s 3 fixture units. Please get that information correct thanks

why not just reroute the sink with its own p trap, connecting it after the washers p trap to the main drain line. also, you can add some hammer arrestors

Can you drill holes for 2" PVC through the 2x4" bottom plate of a load bearing (exterior) wall to get to the joist area below and then on to being drained out? In my case, this bottom plate situation is a sandwich of 1 2x4, then subfloor, then another 2x4 (top plate of wall below)... so it's stacked framing. Doing this is the only way to keep the plumbing in the wall for a washing machine drain, but I don't want to cut the bottom plate if I shouldn't. I can certainly strap the affected area it if that's needed.

I went through my apprenticeship in Colorado. At the time, they were under the IPC, and they allowed mechanical vents but they had to be accessible! Now I live in Iowa, and I am now a master plumber in Iowa and we are under the UPC. And they do not accept them in this state! Only on one occasion was I able to talk an inspector into allowing 2 of them in kitchen islands. And that's because we'd have to set up scaffolding to run the drainage because it was actually a 4 story but with only 3 floors! Long way down so he allowed them. Other than that, they are forbidden around here! Which is B. S. if you ask me! But plumbers tend to abuse the use of them also. THE BEST WAY TO VENT IS , OTR! Peace!

Thank you, very helpful. I'm thinking about taking on, as far as I'm concerned, A very big plumbing project in my newly purchased home. I have a couple questions: On the dry vent examples, can those san tee's be on their back like they are? I was told they had to be turned at a 45 degree angle? Also, how far do the vents have to be from the fixture? I suppose it depends on the pipe size? I live in San Francisco where you can not use PVC. You have to use cast iron. Do the same codes apply for both materials?

Was very helpful. My question is can I run a 1 inch air vent instead of a 1 1/2 inch up through the roof I am above all of my p-traps by 2 ft. I need to go with a smaller diameter pipe to get through some structural framing. Planning to use 1-in pipe on up and out of the roof is this legal

  • @plumbbuild6517

It may be code but there several reasons to install a P-trap if just to catch what ever should accidentally fall down the drain,a five thousand dollar ring and you’ll be cutting the drywall out or trying to retrieve it from the washer drain.

Hi, and thank you for the demo. I enjoyed seeing that, and the outcome was what I expected. I have a question that perhaps you can answer. Even though Uponor is a cold expansion pex, do you know if there is a lower limit temperature that significantly affects is ability to expand? For example, if the temperature was 10 below zero F for a few days, and the pex was exposed to that temperature, do you know if its elasticity/expandability would be decreased? That's just a theoretical question from my standpoint. I live in the southeastern US, so we rarely see sub-zero temperatures. I'm sure I could probably search for that information online, but I thought I'd ask the question here to give your comment section a little activity. Thanks, and I'm glad a came across your videos. I like them.

Hey, great video! This will help with part of my project but I'm looking for some advice on draining my bathroom. I have a small cabin in the white MTNs of NH and started to add a 1/2 bath to the upstairs. Half of the bathroom is being built over an existing deck and will need black and gray water drained to the septic. About 10' from where the toilet will go there's a cleanout pipe sticking 6 inches out of the ground (part of a new septic system). I was told I can drain water into that pipe as long as I use a Y connector, so I can still use it as a cleanout if needed. Is this true? I really is my only option. My plan would be to connect the sink pipe into the 3" toilet drain pipe, then connect a vent tube and then into the cleanout. Thanks
