    Those tomato plants look like a full hedge! 😄And maybe you should ask DickeyTT about your onions. He seem to have had a nice harvest. I'm always amazed about how chili plants just bounce back like that. I forgot watering my little wiri wiri plants the other day and they looked worse than yours. Then ~2.5 hours (and some water) later they were back to normal.

    Thanks for that update. Looking forward to see your harvest this year and I'm sure I'll never beat this. But I have two questions. Do you have any comparison on platics pods vs. cotton ones? All I hear is they are superior to plastic pods but I haven't seen any real side to side comparison. And looking at yourr plants, have you thought about using the Blumat dripping system? Not sure if that's suitable for your scale. I used it on two of my plants last year and they nearly exploded with growth.

    • @ChilliChump2
      @ChilliChump2 2 месяца назад

      I am guessing you mean pots? I am not a fan of fabric pots personally. They dry out way too quickly, they pretty much wick water away from the plant. Definitely don't suit the way I grow, and my soil mix recipe. I haven't seen the blumat system, so can't really comment on that.

    Interesting, here in Ontario I'm rushing to pull my garlic harvest and yet my peppers (although outdoors in 5 gallon cloth bags) are behind yours. I really appreciate your growing suggestions as I have learned the value of building a good root ball and not to fear the droopy leaves - good water will bring them back. I need to check your book for the beetroot pickle recipe. Thanks again for these great vlogs.

    The Blood Ghost is such a fun variety, my favourite superhot actually. They taste absolutely amazing, and they look like they're glowing from the inside when they''re ripe. Their tall growth habit is a bit annoying to deal with, but also quite funny to watch. They seem to either produce a lot of auxin, or have a stronger auxin response than other C. chinense. Auxin is the plant hormone that drives internodal elongation and apical dominance. Internodal elongation is the reason they're so tall - They continue to stretch lengthwise, and don't just grow from the growth tip. The increased apical dominance somewhat decreases the total possible yield of the plant. It refuses to branch out as much as other pepper varieties, and it doesn't respond to topping at all. It will just continue to grow tall and slim, no matter what. My season is about as bad as yours (I'm growing outdoors in Northern Germany), but my Blood Ghost is about 1.5 m tall already. Luckily, it produces very densely, and from the twelfth node onwards, you'll have multiple fruit at every node.

    I think it is a mix of the weird weather and the fact that the tree just outside my house blocks more and more sun each year (😒), but it feels like I'm mostly growing foliage that stretches for the light on the sides that is not blocked by the tree... Gonna have to start having some plants inside during regular season as well just to be sure that I'll get some kind of harvest 🤪 That testarossa orang looked really nice. So sad I didn't grow any dark foliage plants this year. My favorite tasting peppers are Chinense. I would love to try a Rocoto since I heard so much good about it, but it just keeps growing, like a vine... Maybe i should try that one inside next season 🤔Interesting "surprise monster"! Will be interesting to follow them all over the season. And that Bubblegum 7 Naga Red look cool. Kind of like variegated pods 😍

    Sorry to hear about your season, but mine is going great and I have a much shorter season then you. I got my plants into the greenhouse second week of June, transplanted them on June 14, and now they are 1.5-3 feet tall, depending on the type of pepper. I never get as big of plants as you have gotten in the past, since my first frost comes anywhere from early to late October. July is growth, August is setting fruit, and September is hope its warm enough to ripen all the peppers. Daytime temperatures are single digits in September here, the greenhouse is a bit warmer. I often cut branches off to bring them inside to ripen. I hope your season improves.

    My veg growth was pretty bad this year. In Germany we've had really rainy and cold months this year and all my plants are fairly little. But there are also 2 pros: 1. The humidity is high enough that my flowers don't fall off. In the past I've always had problems with that. 2. For some weird reason I've not had a single aphid this year. A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one.

      Horribly. May, June and now the beginning of July has almost been rain only here in South Germany. I don't have a big green house so usually in May I'll take my plants outside here on the southside of the house where there is normally plenty of sun and warmth for them to grow. Well, this time I think they've almost grown fins instead. Hope it's getting better now late July and August.

      Pretty bad, southeast US. It got so hot so quickly in the spring that almost all of the flowers dropped. More than half of my chili plants have no fruit because of it. I just hit them with heavy phosphorus to see if I can force flowering. The two plants I overwintered loaded up with fruit before the heat took over, so I at least have some to work with.

      Did not grow any plants outdoors this year. It’s been too cold recently. Kept my Carolina Reaper Yellow and Black Mama plants in the living room since I only had these two plants. Growing hydroponic to avoid all the bugs. Harvested 950g of chilies from my Carolina Reaper Yellow today. I am really amazed by this harvest from the living room. The plants should ideally have had more light since there aren’t many hours of the day with direct sunlight in the window.
