Trek Marlin 6 / Is It A Great 1st Mountain Bike?
Bro those tires are basically bald
What bb axle length are you using?
@@cpm_sv7770 depends on the bike. Spindle length is marked on the bottom bracket shell.
You also gotta check for flat spots on rims. I know there not very common, but there super annoying. Riding rims with a flat spot isn’t dangerous on alloy rims, but it feels wonky and normally results in buying new rims.
@@abelzimmerman7695 definitely. Bought a set online and it had 6 inch flat spot. Definitely sucks bad.
Also check if there are pedals 👍
@@tjtiger5 yep, there was lol i had already bought the bike.
Hey I have a question. Can I swap out fork on my trek marlin 6 gen 3 2023 for a fork with diffrent offset
@@Rokocubric you can do anything you want. It will just change the geo of the bike. Marlin 6 is pretty steep head angle factory making it easy to steer and climb. Look at videos on “head angle” and “trail”. Trail is changed when the offset changes. The Trail affects the steering axis.
Qudos on a beautiful build, looks like it'd be a joy to ride :)
@@jamiedalton2623 it is fun, bit heavy though 😝
Downhill
All droppers have play, wolf tooth, pnw, oneup, fox, rockshox, sdg, bike yoke.
Excessive play. They do need serviced when worn.
how many t is the chain ring
32t is a pretty standard gearing.
My bike is broken
Time to do some wrenching!
Well i wish I saw this yesterday
Don't
I love them my feet are to big for regular pedals
Rubber is the cheapest thing that's needs to be replaced on that bike!!
I bled the brakes, serviced the dropper, trued the wheel, added pedals and rode it for a year. Now it has a completely different build of parts on it and a fantastic bike! 😁
He ain't wrong.
I checked but i dont have disk brake its the other one and mine is a clicker😢
ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
Lmao
RAGLEY MMMBOP, great choice!
Wish they were still making them. They are sweeeeeet bikes
more importantly check seat post isn’t seized in the frame
If it’s a steel frame and aluminum post, most definitely.
i have alu dropper stuck in a carbon frame
Most important to do a test ride - check pedals for existence✌🏻
They existed when I bought it. 😁
what dropper post is that also is it internal or external?
It’s an external PNW. Marlin unfortunately doesn’t have an internal post option on the frame.
alright thanks
what if it’s not a hardtail
There’s only one part difference between those two types of bikes 🤷♂️
@@dirtwolfmtb true 😂
You can’t check for dropper movement but every sub £200 dropper I ever seen has a bit of slack after a while. Especially the Brand X Ascent (not knocking it, it’s an outstanding post considering it’s also the cheapest!)
I rebuilt it. And it had zero play afterwards. Go to RUclips and search “how to service a Brand X Dropper post” you will see you get a seal and pin kit. When the pins are worn it will develop excessive side to side play like this had.
How I got the frame guards locking really fresh
Never had a dropper that didn’t have side to side play. I thought that was par for the course 🤷🏾♂️.
I was talking about major play my man. It should not have excessive play. That is a sign of worn pins 🤷♂️
basically, don't buy used mtb...
Just bought one used. Just because you should check it, doesn’t mean the part is going to be bad.
This is one of the ugliest bikes I’ve ever seen.
what bike is this?
Ragley mmmbop.
@dirtwolfmtb thanks brl
He needs a pedal😮
Yup. Already bought the bike prior to this video 😂
Did the same with my commuter bike (used another kit tho). I don't need that many gears on that bike and the range is totally sufficient for inclines up to 8-10%. Also with 36 teeth on the front it's not too slow. Bike & cockpit looks much cleaner now. Love it.
Thousand yard stare
Them tires are sweet fast rolling and still have the side knobs
Bit torn, and not enough traction on the trails here.
Also check for any play in the hubs, cranks. Nice one dude!
Dude get outta here buying used u should expect to service. Only things check frame form shock
Hope you get them cheap 😂
What size single chainring you use?
This was a 32T but they also make a 30T
All droppers have play and you should know that
They don’t actually. That is a sign of worn dropper sleeve pins, and it needs servicing.
They do actually ,ie rock side to side@@dirtwolfmtb
Hello I want to change mine to a 1x10. What size of ring do you recommend ?
30t or 32t should be fine. 30t would be better if you have a lot of steep hills.
nice bike
Sad that they may be going under… Still have it. It’s My favorite bike other than the kona process.
Im thinking of doing a 1x9 hopefully it will work and any advice
Just shift into the smallest front ring first and see if you’ll like it. Most riding I’ve done on pretty heavy climbing hills a 1x9 or 1x10 or 1x11 works great. Just ensure if you do it you look at the cranks to see if they are riveted or not, if they are like this one, had to grab a used crank set.
@dirtwolfmtb ok thanks
@dirtwolfmtb I fond a single chanring 32T 104 BCD so I'll get that and try it
@@dirtwolfmtb will I need a chain guide
@@ragingrhino9995 if you got a chainring similar to this video that is a narrow wide you won’t need a chain guide
Could i suggest following each "check" with what to check? Without, this lacks any meaningful suggestions. For example, check the chain by measuring wear like this.... Also, repeat on dropper comments above. Some play can be totally fine and not a sign of wear depending on the dropper.
Okie dokie
You should of left your front derailleur as a chain guide that’s what I did with my 1x conversion.
There is no need with a narrow wide chain ring my man. Holds strong 💪
Thanks for the tips!
No problem!
“Take it for a quick spin” assuming it has pedals
Haha right
Bruh tires in the Philippines are 2.5k and that’s like 50 bucks in your country
I wouldn’t buy a second hand bike the seller hadn’t bothered to clean first , if the seller can’t be arsed when selling it just think how it’s been treated day to day
Clean bike? What’s that 🤷♂️
@@dirtwolfmtb maybe it’s just me but I’m not happy unless my bike is box fresh and seem to spend longer cleaning than riding 🤣 which is annoying
I will check the frame..... if perfect change all the components with new ones. Upgrade everything 😊
Haha pretty much
I’m doing the same thing on my dimaondback sorento thanks for the video
Сколько зубьев передняя звезда?
32T
That is an example of a dropper post I would not buy
New rebuild, works fine
