Boundary Bay Central Nest Cleaning - 9-7-24
David Hancock and his team traveled to the Boundary Bay Central nest to retrieve the remains of precious Bowen, an eaglet who died July 3, 2024, and to clean the nest of old nesting materials and add fresh moss and sticks. The video is a highlight of the nest cleaning and features David, Ryan (cam zoomer), RoseA (topic assistant for the BB forum), AP (ground observer for the nest), and his friend, the climber (who cleaned the nest) plus others on the ground.
Once Bowen's remains were removed by Ryan, David and the climber added fresh moss and more sticks to the nest to make it ready for Mere and Pere's return this next nesting season. Other members of the team got to travel up in the lift...

Surrey Reserve featuring Kova - One last day at the nest - 8-15-24
Просмотров 164Месяц назад
It is evident Kova has disbursed from the natal area along with Brit and Rey. Kova hasn't been seen since Thursday, August 15th, at 1:32 pm. Brit and Rey's young eagle was 104 days old on this day. Kova, as he typically does, came to the nest early morning and perched on the little perch before flying off, squeeing. Kova returned to the nest at 12:36 pm and spent time on the right support perch...
Surrey Reserve featuring Kova - Ooops! A PS into the nest - 8-2-24

After Kova finished eating a nice meal of leftovers, Kova cleans his/her beak on the branches in the nest. At this point, Kova moves to the edge of the nest, looking out over the nest. Then wait for it....has a PS (poop shoot) into the nest. Now that is a bit unusual but thinking "gotta-go gotta-go." Kova then looks out, planning a flight plan ... Kova takes flight out toward Boundary Bay. Vide...

    • @sandywilliams9419
      @sandywilliams9419 2 года назад

      Ma returned on October 7, 2021 and Trooper returned on October 8, 2021. However, we have sad news as Trooper disappeared on the morning of February 8, 2022. At that time, there were several eagles passing through the Delta. We hope Trooper left for a new life and nothing happened to him. There have been several males courting Ma. Right now, it is past Ma's typical time to lay eggs but we are hoping she will lay eggs with her new suitor who we refer to as stranger eagle (SE). We will have to wait and see.

Both he and Ma were in the nest early and last seen together Tuesday morning on one of the poles at 9:48 am. Of course watching from afar on the poles, we have watched their behavior of perching on the poles together. Hoping to much to see him again soon.

    There's only been one video that I've seen of Chase since fledging on 6/28 & that was on 6/29 when Chase returned. All other videos since then have been of Hope. How can we be certain this eagle soaring is Hope?? Could it not be just as likely that this is Chase as well as Hope, or has something happened to Chase that I'm unaware of?? Any info that you can share is appreciated. :-) Regardless, thank you for the video. -Hugs

    • @sandywilliams9419
      @sandywilliams9419 3 года назад

      There is always that chance but the observers for the cam followed both Chase and Hope all over the area. With the typical daily behavior of the fledglings watching them come and go almost on an hourly basis, it was evident Chase left the area for his/her journey to the salmon runs. The last sighting of Chase was in the morning of 7-16th. Both Hope and Chase were in the field, either on a pole or the fence. Hope returned to the nest that day for a meal and Chase did not. That was unusual as Chase was just as aggressive as Hope about their meals. If Chase has been around those couple of days after the 16th, he/she would have been to nest to eat. And he/she didn't. It was pretty evident Chase had left on his/her journey. Hope this makes sense.

    • @sandywilliams9419
      @sandywilliams9419 3 года назад

      Also want to add something about this particular morning with Hope on the middle field tree. I know I began watching Hope when he/she came to the nest after spending the night at the stick tree. I followed her/him to the fence area in the field and watched as Hope played around the field and as a parent flew down to check on Hope. Another person came on after me and continued to follow Hope all around the field area and then to the evergreen. Another person came on with Hope at the middle field tree. So we are pretty confident that this is Hope. If you wish to read the story about Hope and Chase, please check out the HWF forum. So much information about this nesting season is all in one place. Thank you for asking. forum.hancockwildlife.org/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=499&p=370582#top
