Product Review! The new 2024 Sunstone Mpulse
This is the 2nd generation Mpulse made by Sunstone Engineering deep in the Utah mountains.
For those of you who don’t like long 20 min videos. I’ll list the highlights here:
The good:
🦘Great low power control for welding tiny things
🐆Increased electrode sensitivity
🦧Large power range for PJ and jewelry making. -1-30 Joules, 1-15 in 1/2 steps, 15-30 in whole steps.
🦜Software upgradeable
🐫More grounding ports
The Bad:
🪼Larger and heavier than the previous gen
🦐 Power cord too short
🦭Grey color doesn’t matches accessories or stylus
🦖 No stylus port on the back for scope users (this is going to the in the PLUS column for many users).
Please comment with questions ! Love yall !

    Non jeweler question.. I want something I can micro fill in rust damaged gun or knife metal to ultimately flatten, polish and blue. Is this product something i can build up a millimeter or two of a gap in a ver small area? If these are limited to jewelry links I understand but if I can use it to build up material, albeit small amounts it might be a fit for me. I appreciate any feedback. Thanks for the video

    • @Friction-Jewelry
      @Friction-Jewelry 2 часа назад

      Hmm. That is application I don’t have experience with. You can certainly add material to a gap, it’s harder to control vs something like solder. It will take practice but normally if I’m trying to add metal to a joint, I’ll ground the speed wire or whatever, place the electrode on the joint and then bring the wire into the joint.. hard to explain I should make a video on this 😊

    Oh and one more question. How do you use this/can you use this when welding necklaces and anklets on people? Just wondering if you’ve been able to get creative and make it work for those. If not, what do you default to, since I know you like to SEE!

    Thanks for the video. Do you ever feel like while using the mpulse, you wish the machine had a half (.5) setting? I’m a bit of a perfectionist and think that I’d not like it if welds were too over melted or under is why I ask. TIA!

    • @Friction-Jewelry
      @Friction-Jewelry 11 дней назад

      Yes! In practice through we do just fine with the original Mpulse, however the PJ and the new Mpulse are worthwhile upgrades if you need a second welder, or you need to work small. Which eventually everyone will be welding links etc. As the industry develops big jump rings will start to go away bc customers will realize they don’t look good.

  • @Ilovejewelry06

    Totally appreciate this; very helpful review, man. I’m a little older so I definitely have a problem with seeing, and also add far sightedness to that! Two questions I didn’t think I heard you address but maybe I missed it: 1) To what power does it magnify to? I understand things like “10x”, like from the goose neck magnifying glasses. 2) There are two microscope setups from Orion. The one you have and a more stationary one, correct? What’s the difference, and pros/cons? I can infer that you prefer the one you have… Thank you!!

    • @Friction-Jewelry
      @Friction-Jewelry 11 дней назад

      1) the eye pieces are 5x, but it’s on a different scale (is the only way I can describe it) vs the convex lens of magnifying lamps. More than that, it’s the clarity, free of distortion you get from having the wrong angle or focal length with other magnifiers. Also the eye pieces are swappable. So you can increase magnification but it would decrease field of view so I wouldn’t recommend. 2) Orion / sunstone offers the articulating arm and stand mounts for their scope. The arm is what nearly all PJ companies use. The stand’s only advantage is portability, but its lack of functionality vs the arm make it a bad option imo. As I mentioned in the video You need to be able to move the stylus around freely to do Pj. The stand and ADLs require you to bring someone’s wrist into position (not good), and they also prevent someone from sitting across from you.

I tried to doing the filled recangle method to get the right focal length. It didn't help my fiber. It fires but its super weak. I'm not sure what's wrong they are supposed to get back to me soon. They told me the firmware update could not have caused the issues. But it did cause the blue framing laser to be so dim its not even usable anymore. Ok so, there are a few things that could be happening. Beginners tend to pull away while welding. Keep light but steady pressure on the joint until after it’s fired. 2nd, too little power will cause the jumps to not weld. Try raising to 2/3 or 1/6. 3rd. Clean your electrode. If you are working with black soot on your electrode the power settings are going to be off. Always work clean.

    Hi! So I'm completely new to this business and machine altogether. Right now I am just trying to learn which metals are okay to spot weld with. I want to start practicing but not sure if gold plated is okay to use? I'm not practicing on a human just yet, I'm using a fake hand from nail school. 😅 So is gold plated chains okay to practice with?

      Make sure your jump rings are completely closed. I noticed my jumprings would blow when they weren't completely closed, and the angle matters too

    What do you recommend as the smallest gold or silver bracket to use? With the Amazon welder

      @Friction-Jewelry 3 месяца назад

      @@TeriJohnson-nu7xd Ok. You mean the jump rings. Well, the smallest I would probably do with the amazon welder is 24g. That number is a measure of thickness. I think 2.8 or 3mm is a good starting point as far as outside diameter of the ring. When are you learning, you could even start with 4mm. You could buy silver, gold-filled and stainless jump rings to practice with. IT's very important you learn proper plier technique for opening and closing jump rings. this is a critical skill for welding PJ. Good luck!

    There's something called an "air pressure guage" on the one I bought. There's a place for a smaller tube marked out and what appears to be a 1/4" tube marked in. There's a plastic knob on it, that doesn't seem to turn. I'm guessing I need to buy a separate regulator and somehow attach this to the reglator, but not sure how or how to use the knob

    • @Friction-Jewelry
      @Friction-Jewelry 4 месяца назад

      Ya I wouldn’t even bother with that. Just buy the regulator for pulse arc welders. I got mine at Pepe tools I think like $120. 1/4 tube quick connect on the regulator.. I’ve got another video about gas 😊

    Thank you for your videos. My best friend and I are considering permanent jewelry. Since yesterday I’ve watched almost all videos but can’t believe how expensive the welders are. So I was thinking if you don’t mind, since we live in Pasadena, LA, would you consider an in person tutorial, we can drive to SD. I used to live in Oceanside years ago and worked there at La Jolla. I would appreciate a reply. Thanks and Godbless .

      Thanks for watching :) honestly you don’t even need in person or online training. Stones and findings and sunstone and i think halstead bead all have free training videos.. welders you should buy used on Facebook. No need to buy new.

    Hello, the video is very useful, thank you. I did the installation, there is an air inlet, I connected it to the machine. But there is no air coming out during welding. What could be the problem? I will be grateful if you could help me🙏🏿

    Just upgraded to the microscope and am setting it up now! You mentioned you use your welder for other applications besides PJ ( which Ive done a couple years now) but I also have an artisanal jewelry line that I would love to use my welder for .... just not sure how?

    • @Friction-Jewelry
      @Friction-Jewelry 4 месяца назад

      You will find many uses for it ! I use it everyday for the online business, usually I just need to weld jump rings. It allows me to use very small and thin gauge wire where I normally would have to wire wrap or something. It’s so fast we can rip through orders with this setup :))

      You mean the argon gas tube ? I use 1/4” hose bc that’s what the victor regulator takes. The machine takes metric but it fits. You can get it on Amazon. Search pneumatic hose 1/4” OD

    • @Friction-Jewelry
      @Friction-Jewelry 5 месяцев назад

      Hi! It’s more about the gauge (thickness) of the metal vs the material but both are important. Most welds in perm jewelry are going to be at 1/3 for all metals. If you are working with 22 gauge plus, 1/6 or 2/3 might be better. Sterling and gold usually take less power than gold filled or stainless.

    We appreciate your feedback. We introduced this tool (Model 2194) in response to requests (from the PJ market) for a cutter that would leave a flat end on both sides of the wire (or jump ring). It was not intended as a replacment for a traditional flush cutter.

    • @Friction-Jewelry
      @Friction-Jewelry 5 месяцев назад

      Thanks for the clarification. I tried to say in the video, every tool has a perfect use, this one for sure is a nice wire cutter. I did see a close to flat end on each side of the link when using these which I would certainly appreciate in specific situations. Curt @ Micro tools was just marketing these like it was THE Pj cutter and misleading marketing really bugs me. A lot of higher lever PJ companies do not use jump rings anymore, and even if people use them are typically already open and don't need to be cut. For feedback purposes, I haven't had luck with any of your micro-shear pliers. Dainty chains just seem to bind inside the bevel. On the other hand the 492 holding pliers are great. If you would make with a little bigger ergo handle that would be THE pj plier.

      As a retailer of Xuron, Tronex and Lindstrom cutters, the biggest issue isn't with the double flush cutting. The problem I deal with on a daily basis is customers cutting harder material like stainless and gold filled at the tips of small traditional cutters and breaking off the tips. The 2194 was developed to address this issue.
