Repetitive Strain Injury
США
Добавлен 23 дек 2010
If your hands and arms are bothering you, you're in the right place. Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI) refers to pain or dysfunction in your neck, arms, shoulders, wrists or hands from over- or improper use. Many people have never heard of RSI until they experience symptoms. RSI is serious. It can not only impair your ability to work; it can also make daily activities (cooking, driving and childcare) difficult. RSI requires expert physician care.

Those splints are great to sleep in especially good for carpal tunnel
Soft splints are even better. But just don't wear splints when you're using your handset work! You can get into lots of trouble. See this video: ruclips.net/video/S58iv-_N_ZE/видео.html
Great video! Now we neee a lightweight set of pliers and a minimalist holster to carry it around the house for quick use
Great idea! I recommend these spring-loaded pliers for ease of use: amzn.to/3ytoHPM. Aprons with pockets hold a lot more than a single pair of pliers and holster. I highly recommend them. Either that or have a separate pair of pliers in the kitchen, bathroom, etc.
Fantastic
Thank you so much! Happy you enjoyed.

Thank you. Am ordering a pop up device.
@@myersj7747 so good to hear!!!
For the pen grip, you position your hand parallel to the ground or like when you normally hold a pen ,resting on the pinky side?
Hi Chris, you would put your hand in the normal penhold position, angled toward the pinky side.
@DeborahQuilter Ok thank you very much!
How about an ergonomic point device like the RollerMouse from Contour Design?
That's better than a mouse but I prefer a glide pad centered so that you can use both hands. Angle your hands in a neutral position when you use it. And alternate hands.
I am new to having joint problems and basically broke down crying cus I couldn't open this jar... You have no idea how much this helped me
Sunny, I’m so pleased this helped you! Thank you for writing.❤️
I have had twitching with two fingers for three days I do have something going on with my neck and my spine and I’m taking medication for that but this is something different that’s happening. I have had the whole right side go numb on me for about three minutes and the feeling comes back the twitching is aggravating.
Devora, there could be many reasons for this, including postural issues or overuse. I am not a doctor and cannot diagnose you, but I do recommend that you see someone with expertise in this area. Best wishes!
Just found a video from kaelynn partlow that said you can use a spoon to not only open up the tab, but you turn it around to pull the thing up! Going to try that soon!
I use a spoon to get the thing lifted, but it’s so painful to get the rest of the thing up!
Robin, spoons are awkward for this. It's better to use this tool to lift the ring: amzn.to/3Lshkuo. But don't try to pull the lid up with that tool because it doesn't work. Use the Nutcracker and center it so that you get leverage when you pull. If that doesn't work, you probably have to use electric can opener. I know these things are difficult. Let me know how it goes.

Hey , i had an arm wrestling match yesterday and had pain in my right arm, and just now my middle finger just started twitching should i be concerned? It would br rrly helpful if u reply
Sorry to hear about your pain, but I cannot guide you in this matter because I'm not a doctor. I can say that you should probably see one if this continues to investigate what's going on. Meantime, take good care of your hands - and maybe think twice about arm wrestling. We do a lot with our hands, and it's best not to subject them to strain.

@@DeborahQuilter what about muscle spams and throbs those symptoms werent mentioned i saw someweherr its early signs still but i dont know anymore
There are lots of symptoms for RSI. The pain can be throbbing, electrical, shooting, a dull ache. But pain is often the last symptom to show up so take this seriously, stop the offending activity and seek the best medical help you can find. Best wishes!

RSI has completely destroyed my life and it’ll never be good ever again
I understand how difficult it is to have Repetitive Strain Injury. I have it myself. But please don't let it completely destroy your life. One step that you can take on behalf of others is to sign my petition to end RSI - and share it with everyone you know! Prevention is the only cure and the government needs to take action. My additional take-home message after watching this video is that people should be careful when directing a massage device to the tissues in their hands. Vibration is no good to the vessels and nerves.
I have a tremor in my left index finger, particularly when I extend it. It starts shaking very violently. I read ET is 7x more likely than PD but I also read ET isn't unilateral and I don't drink coffee nor alcohol so I'm a bit worried. I first noticed it when I put my thumb over the alt button and index finger on the E button, my finger started shaking when I hovered over the E with my index finger. I suspected it could be RSI but wouldn't my finger shake whilst it was unextended as well if that was the case? Also wouldn't RSI hurt? This is painless so makes me question if it's RSI
One of the biggest misconceptions about RSI is that it's always painful. It isn't. I am not a doctor and can't answer your question, so please find a skillful doctor who can sort this out for you. Meantime, I highly recommend that you never use your thumb to strike a key. It puts the thumb in an awkward position and stresses the joint. When you are making a combination keystroke, it's better to use both hands and avoid using the thumb on the spacebar, and similarly, don't use the pinky on the outer keys. Best plan: dictate.
@@DeborahQuilterthank you. I appreciate the advice and you clearing up the rsi = pain thing
You're quite welcome! I wish the government would launch a truly useful Educational Campaign about Repetitive Strain Injury. I wrote a petition about this. I would love it if you could sign and share the petition with everyone you know! chng.it/9nCFgFMGt9 People can get devastating injuries - and then very often have a terrible time finding a doctor who knows how to diagnose and treat Repetitive Strain Injury.
Prolonged compression certainly doesn't help. When you think about it, conservative treatments like physical therapy, acupuncture, and massage are increasing the blood flow to that injured area. This product is doing the opposite. I think gloves with some cushion will be helpful for motorcyclists, especially when it gets colder.
Yes, gloves can help. Dr. Markson talks about it here:ruclips.net/video/CCiJp8hzUkU/видео.html

Hello! Enjoyed the video and found it helpful. May i include it in a resource guide for an upcoming workshop for sign-language interpreters?
Yes, absolutely, Bonnie! I'm thrilled that you are helping sign language interpreters prevent or cope with Repetitive Strain Injury. May I suggest that you share a couple of other videos with them as well? This one on the risk factors:ruclips.net/video/duCNC8WqcgE/видео.html and this one on warning signs: ruclips.net/video/tLCIYpOu83A/видео.html. I wish I could come to your workshop. @@DeborahQuilter thank you so much!!
I have added them to my list.
You're so welcome, Bonnie!
Thank you so much for helping me spread the word about RSI, Bonnie!
My fingers went numb in January this year. In February I showed my husband the muscle under my thumb was flat. Neither of us knew what that meant. I went to my family doctor in March and told her about how my fingers were numb but they also throbbed and burned and showed her the flat muscle under my thumb. She flat out told me I did not have carpel tunnel and to get a splint and use it at night for 8 weeks and see if it helps. Well it did not help obviously. Went back to her in May then she sent me to a hand/ wrist doctor and they immediately told me my hand was screaming carpel tunnel. That was June 3rd. They sent me for an EMG and the soonest I could get that was July 23rd. I failed the EMG big time! He said I had severe severe carpel tunnel syndrome. My fine motor skills were almost completely gone. My nerve was being crushed. And I may have permanent nerve damage and I needed surgery ASAP. Well I got my surgery on September 5th. So I’m almost 3 weeks post op now. My fingers are still numb and he told me it could take a while for the numbness to go away and it may not completely go away either. But my fingers do feel better than they did before surgery. Before surgery I always had to keep my hand in a fist with my thumb inside the fist to relieve the burning and throbbing. Now I don’t need to do that. Hoping for a good outcome in a few months time. I feel like if my doctor would have known what it was back in March I could have gotten treatment earlier.
I am so sorry to hear all of this. Unfortunately, most doctors get very little training in the upper extremity in medical school - even though it's a leading cause of occupational disability. I wish your doctor had been able to help you sooner. I am doing everything I can to educate people, including a playlist on my channel that specifically geared toward "What Doctors Need to Know." I also started a petition to end RSI so that the government will at the very least initiate a massive public education campaign. The link is here:chng.it/9nCFgFMGt9. Please read, sign and tell your friends to do that, too. Thanks.

Great honest review as well as some very good advice! I try to stand at my desk most of the day.
Thank you so much! The best thing is not to have back pain in the first place! And our society forces us into chairs all the time. But while sitting is bad, standing is not the opposite of sitting: ruclips.net/video/-A6TOx7882M/видео.html Coming soon you will see my recommendation for a chair that actually keeps you fit - and helps prevent back pain.♥
I have psoriatic arthritis and I have been in the middle of a wicked flare up. Pain so bad I can barely walk. And now my right index finger has a mild tremor from time to time.
I'm sorry to hear all this, John. I hope you find a physician who can help you understand the tremor. Best wishes, Deborah
@@DeborahQuilter I hate Drs. I won’t bother with it. It’s likely from the flare up and resulting strain on my muscles.
If I stop working/making repetitive movement, is it possible for it to go away?
That depends on what stage you are in. A skilled and knowledgeable physician can help you with that question. But avoiding the offending activity will definitely help you. Be careful with your hands no matter what you're doing with them, Iglesia. Avoid strain and overuse.
📌Here's why cushions don't work: ruclips.net/video/oI1FDeguKLA/видео.html
A PT once prescribed exercises on the balance board, which helped strengthen my core muscles to the extent that I no longer felt lower back pain while sitting. It's worth a try. By the way, I thought the glutes were natural cushion haha.
Glad to hear that PT helped you to strengthen your core! Truly the key to low back comfort...
Love your videos Deborah❤️
