Cheap Yaesu System Fusion MMDVM Hotspot build and test (with a GOTA chase in the mix!) G5REV
My FT3D has a Wires-X button, but as I am not in range of any Wires-X repeaters, I decided to build a node, and do for for the least amount of money possible. I managed it for £40.57.
After building the hotspot, I tested it on a GOTA chase (www.GOTA.org.uk).
Thanks for watching,

Working a 20m contest 2E0BMT Ham Radio LZ Bulgaria on an ICOM 7300
class mines is in the mail bosh plus i stay on a big hill 😂😊
the cons sounds like stuff that gatekeepers often say, i can't afford to buy an HF nor it is easy to buy in my country bc of imports restrictions on those kind of radio devices.
4:08 wtf, what kind of asshole military is this? don't they have large bands to use anyways?
is 145.500 for UK only or it's working anywhere in the world?
That's quite a jump from taking it out of the box to downloading updates! Too soon and too complicated. What about radio settings, etc. You're assuming rather a lot
Brilliant!!! Many thanks
Fantastic story Ben. I passed my Foundation last week, and am just waiting the arrival of my confirmation letter so that I can apply for my callsign.
Pause my foundation license after a three week study, and commented to the invigilator that I’m still lost with regards to this hobby. I’m moving onto the intermediate now, which is a lot of electronics from what I’ve seen so far and I understand that quite well. But I didn’t realise it was this is a deep rabbit hole. Actually let me change that, this is a deep rabbit Warren pick a direction and there’s something new to learn. Unfortunately the biggest hurdles for me was not realising how important space for a good antenna is. So whilst I was looking forward to making some strides in to learning something new, I think as I have virtually nowhere to place an aerial that won’t upset my wife, I guess I’ll be relying on repeaters, which I now understand fully. Thank you very much for this informative video keep going keep safe.
Complete beginner here. Wow. What a brilliantly simple instructional! Absolutely superb. Thank you, sir!
Ditto. Just received it today but I would have been one of those people with the radio in a drawer never having heard anything, now I have 18 local repeaters programmed (for listening only) and have heard several transmissions while doing it! I've watched videos before but this is the first one that actually was useful. Thank you! 😀
Great video, thank you. I am following along. I got as far as logging in to Supermon. I was able to log in, but my node number does not show up. Do you have any idea what I may have messed up?
Glad to have one...DW1YTY (District 1, Philippines)
Hi, me and my boyfriend bought each other the tectalk go and we wanted to chat with each other We live 1,5km away from each other the box says it has 5km reach But somehow we don't get each other's signal how can we fix that

It the Baofeng uv5rx cp Comes with a foot long antenna
Excellent advice.
My grandfather was a radio ham, and I've decided i want to get my license. Is there a way i can adopt his old handle? I know what it was Thanks
As an ex novice license holder in the 80s and 90s this video has been really useful and informative. Cheers
I definitely appreciate the after market accessories: upgraded batteries with higher capacities & usbc charging).
So many thanks for putting out probably the best video for us newbies!
Ok.... officially lost now.....don't seem to have all the info you mentioned on the repeater book.....🥴
My offset is -0,6 MHz...so do I put in 000.600 or 006.000 or something completely different....
How did your transceiver handled difference in impedance? In this case feeder Impedance was 300 Ohms if I correctly recall. 73!
You talked way too much before getting to the instructions.

There isn't anything to listen too on these boring ass ham radios. All of these baofung videos are from people that get free radios. Why do you think there are so many videos at the same time showing the same thing. Phuckin chincs
Total waste of time. Nobody was using it during the past two hurricanes in Florida. CB Radio was very reliable. Ham channels wokred well, but GMRS is a waste of time.
so 3 yrs later and it still works! THANK YOU! and that double save thing to get both TX and RV in the channel was very helpful

Perfectly explained! You are a gentleman and a scholar. Thank you very much!
Great Video, I have a "Baofeng UV-5RH PRO MAX" which has the color screen and the menu options are not the same numbers but I can figure it out. I have saved the channel Freq I want, I entered the OFFSET and it all seems saved but when I try to set the -/+ in the SFT-D MENU it shows highlighting OFF so I toggle to "-" and ENTER but it does not seem to save and seems to return to showing OFF as selected.. any Idea to what I am doing wrong? I am not licensed so just listening in and trying to get familiar with everything.
Hi , great video, how do I obtain the license please? Great video
Stick with my analogue junk thanks
You can also use "CHIRP" software and program it via a computer, much quicker. You will need a programming cable of course.
I’ve not heard a single word please help
Please help I carnt get anything at all on my radio
I get more then 65-100 miles with 2 mountain ranges in-between!!!🤔🤫🤫
I know its been 3yrs already, but I hope somebody will answer my inquiry. Will this cm108 mod work as well if I am going to use mobile base radio instead of bf888? tnx 7-3
I have the same radio but ham radio it different now, the interest are gone for many peoples, To comunicate you need a repeater can push your signal far enough to reach the one you communicate with, but with the lack of communication protocol the use of those different ham radio people lose interest using it., A free frequency don't exist I presume, Remember Transmitter Radio Can Save Life so many professional use them in some case you may need a permit to use that radio lol., Well averything are digital now with discrambler system and auto patch satellite communication and more., So radio are for professional Only This is Alfa.. Tango.. Charly.. Peace.
Well, just found this and it’s 3 yrs down the road, I’m *very* surprised that you haven’t hit the 1000 likes yet but here’s mine, just in case!! Loved the Idiots’ Guide videos, BTW😊
I've had this for many years and gave up on it as i couldn't find anything that i could get my head around. You sir will make a great teacher.
I was a US Navy Radioman, and this is an amazing lttle radio, hell of allot better than the PRC 25s we had, but it has a stiff learning curve to really learn how to use one and use it leagaly. if you got an extra $25 laying around i would get the latest upgraded ones, makes it a little easer to use.
Im a Newby here and need to watch this video a 100 times to get a understanding. My heads a bit fried but slowly getting there.
Well a cellular will be just fine for you my friend, but amateur radio it another world of communication brother, peace.
I bought a ham radio test guide study book has helped to understand electricity
@@WillieMakeit well electricity it one thing But electronic's it another world to understanding the fonctional circuit inside your ham radio, Try suburban ham radio on the net you will get all the information is well for frequency use., Ham radio are fun to use when you know the phonetic alphabet and the right frequency to use to communicate with some Ham Repeater But of corse with a valid ham licence depending where you live.
This process is unbelievably complicated and would put most people off from even starting to try. Fair play to anyone who sticks with it.
@@Knack121so far ,, well done a better man than me ,, onwards 🫡
DO NOT stack radio gear and stop natural air circulation.....
Is the license hard to get in the uk..
Very informative video, Ben. Very helpful 👍
Great video
Wow. I was so inspired I’ve ordered one trim eBay I hope it’s real 😂
Hello I'm Volker and my silver one have a short on the OLED pins up to the head. I file this pins away and make them shorter. Also to mention is the worst WIFI connection in case of the in my eyes to small slots on the antenna side the longest slot is 19.44mm this is for 2.46GHZ way to short - I want to cut my slots out to a bigger slot. 73
Nice video Ben. I’m a new Ham, passed my foundation on the 1st July and live near Sleaford. I’m also a member of the Heckington & District Radio Group and interested in contesting. I’ve been learning how to use N1MM but was disappointed there was no UKAC or FMAC contest in the list. Your video filled the gap nicely so now looking forward to cutting my teeth in a contest very soon. Cheers.
