      @@RadioRevG5REV At the moment, the CM108 is where I am stuck and I believe it's because I have a very cheap soldering iron and maybe not the right shape tip. So, at the recommendation of some Discord members of Ham Radio Crash Course, I purchased a new soldering setup along with a heat gun. Hopefully this will get me going better. I also put the operation on hold because of the winter storms here in Texas. Thankfully, in the Houston area we are returning back to normal as the temps are above freezing again, hopefully for good!

      @@RadioRevG5REV I do I’m afraid , and most sites, OfCom included only list 3 letters. The M5 was only short lived 1999/2001 as a precursor to dropping Morse entirely. The A licence was Morse at 12 wpm, then they created the AB with 5 wpm. In 2001, when they dropped Morse as a licence condition, all AB became A. Some 17 years later, they issued a few Full licence M5’s but then they stopped ... I guess they wanted more continuity in lettering. I was lucky

    Nice callsign! Back in the 90's when I got my license, they used to issue call signs strictly only in alphabetical order. No exceptions. You could pick a letter combination not yet issued and reserve it, but you would still have to wait for those letters to be reached before they would issue it. Things have been relaxed by Ofcom clearly! (Not everyone agrees with that apparently...)

    im still not sure about this, ive been licensed for 33 years and we didnt have any of the privileges that are offered to brand new hams these days, not sure if its fair or not, im not sure, you always used to be able to tell the vintage of a radio ham by their call, sadly thats all gone now, very happy for you and dont take this as a negative, it just seems that everything has been diluted now and older calls mean nothing.

    • @RadioRevG5REV
      @RadioRevG5REV  3 года назад +1

      Well... to be honest, I was in two minds... I totally get the vintage issue... but then there is nothing stopping folk who want a different call hanging up their old one and getting a new one.
