Up the 'pool, from down the smoke.
Really great to see this - in a strange way it looks much the same, it's mainly the cars that look different.
i lived about 200m from the church spire you can see behind the cargo sheds and often after school cycled up to the longford river gate to watch 27L departures. If you thought that BOAC 74 took a lot of runway then you should have watched the Monday night SAA 747 do Joburg non stop , Only did it one day a week, all the other days it stopped somewhere, and got airborne just aboutt he intersection with the old 23R or block 78 -you could here the tyres thundering above the engine noise. Magic days
The good old days when you didn't have to worry about getting pick pocketed by an illegal immigrant😔
今英國航空公司!
Absolutely magnificent !! 👌👌
The days when the illuminations were worth going to see.
Fascinating insight into air travel of yore. Watched this clip with a tinge of nostalgia: RIP BOAC, BEA, PAN AM, TWA, Ghana Airways, Alitalia, JAT. Only KLM and Qantas are still around...
Extraordinary beasts
Memories memories... VC10, B707 B747-200 and last but not least the Vickers Vanguard.... I mis these days when there were soooo many different types of aircraft on an airfield, nowadays it is only Boeing or Airbus.... not so interesting anymore for an old guy.
On my family's Summer trips to Yugoslavia to visit family we would usually fly either National or PA to Heathrow. I can still remember being carried up the spiral staircase by a stewardess to visit the cockpit.
This brought back lots of memories thankyou, I remember travelling behind the flying Scotsman on the shuttle service here back then. Great video 👍
I have fond memories of the old school Blackpool as a resident in the 1970s. A usual Saturday for me was swimming in the Derby baths in the morning before a tram ride to the Pleasure Beach to enjoy the Fun House in my stockingfeet.
This was a great place to visit, such a shame it has been neglected by West Coast Railways and now looks like a scrap yard
Their other site in Southall looks just as bad
@@stephenchappell7512 I am not surprised to hear that, I have never been past that one. I will have a look on Google
Just aged three and Play School age back then. I do remember visiting Birmingham during my formative years and the cream and blue buses are distinctive (West Midland). Also the Midland Red buses existed in those far-off days!
Good old days of BR Blue/Grey. Deltics were tops in their day. The sound of twin Napiers at full chat, nothing else like them. Magic machines.
Not CALAIS but BOULOGNE SUR MER /LE PORTEL
Amazing video!
Excellent. My father worked fore BOAC and then BA in Washington DC and later in Miami Florida. We flew to London on a BOAC 707 in 1962 when I was 10 years old. Great Airline and a great life. Flying was wonderful back then. "Today?" NOT SO... Thanks for this wonderful reminder. Best Regards
This is fabulous!! Thx so much for posting!!
1971 THE QUEEN OF THE SKY JAMBO 747 WAS THE QUEEN OF THE SKY AND IT WILL STAY FOR EVER, THANK YOU BOEING THANK YOU USA 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Looked so much less busy. The BOAC insignia and colour was so classy. and to see a National 747, that is rare. It was the airline that advertised by having a sexy American mini skirted air stewardess speaking to camera about the destinations that National flew to and ended with 'I'm Cheryl, Fly me' ( or whatever name!). The tag line inspired the 10cc song 'I'm Mandy, Fly me'
ok, the dead men (astronauts) hanging over the street was straight up creepy.
Great content, lived in Hounslow and stood in the street the day the first Pan Am 747 came in. Used to love visiting queens building terraces and car park rooftops when it closed. Thanks for sharing!
You feel old….I worked as a steward on every BOAC aircraft in the picture in 1971!
When you go to airport now and mostly are only A or B twinjet on tarmac 😓
Seeing the National 747 was quite a rarity. Good catch!
Wow what a superb video...loving the BOAC liveries especially on the VC10.Thank you for sharing.
If i am not mistaken the Boing 747 didn’t enter service till 1974
It's actually been in use since 1970, when Pan Am started flying the first 747
I was there in 1980. Arrived on a 747 from Seattle. Left for Brussels on a 737. Watched, heard, and _felt_ the Concorde take off while we waited for our turn.
The time were you had a big variety of aircrafts for spotting!
Flew to Sydney aged 18 on Monday, 15th May 1972 with BOAC aboard a 747.
So nice. I wasn’t yet born.
I remember sleepovers at grandparents under the 09 approach, way back in the 60s to early 70s. So many prop aircraft still flying, and award for the loudest jet by a big margin goes to the Caravelle. Love the VC10s in this.
Back when plane spotting was interesting. Nice! Thanks for sharing!!!
A a old vanguard my mum and dad went to jersey in the early 60’s from glasgow with the Glasgow Rangers who where training on the island as my dad was friends with one of the players greetings from Scotland 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧. 🔴⚪️🔵
The BOAC livery was elegantly understated
PAN AM is one of our Sponsors B727-200 Boeing PAN AM B727-200F PAN AM.that was Sponsored in the year 2023 2:11
This video same age as me. I used to love visiting viewing gallery at terminal 2 😢
Full array of BOAC's diverse fleet on show, including the VC10 towards the end.
52 years ago yet it still has better quality footage than my friends google pixel for some reason
Google pixel probably compresses the footage drastically…
Great to see the Tridents taking off. Brings back so many great memories of plane spotting at LHR.
1:48 How I love Paris.
Oh Wow
BOAC in the days when it was a great airline before BA, great to see a couple of Super VC 10’s in BOAC livery
Got anything on Donaldson airlines i flew them from Toronto to Scotland in the early 70's and i have never seen anything on this airline from videos to still pictures thanks
Nice footage!! Too bad no sound.
Wow that brought back some good memories, BOAC when it was the airline to fly with, 707s and VC10s where did it go wrong
That BOAC 747 taking off around :45 looks like the run is on a tarmac and not runway?
We were so excited by new aircraft models back then, today we have very efficient aircraft but the traveling public are totally disinterested.
