This was a really fun match! See you in NM for RM3G.
I can directly address the situations that happened on stage 1. The timer's review function was not working properly. The last 3 shots prior to the final shot were not being stored. We looked at Jeremy's video and his videographer cut the video off before you could hear me state the time, and before he could view the timer. The timer was bumped from his shotgun when I was trying to assist him in the clearing and making the range safe. We watched the video to try and establish a time, but because we could not verify, he was awarded a reshoot. I ran a substitute timer back to back with the stage timer to verify accuracy for 4 more shooters. It worked as it should...just would not show the previous shots just prior to the last shot. The coaching came from another competitor that yelled "left" when Jeremy asked a question of himself. She immediately realized her mistake. Technically, coaching isn't even mentioned in the rule book, but as a general rule, I only know of 1 major multigun match were coaching is accepted and that's the Vortex match in Texas. For some reason, there were a number of people that chose that match as their first match. Some didn't even have their own equipment. I'd strongly recommend that new shooters attend a local match before attending something that has a prize table. There were a few concerns on stage 1 around the 180 and I tried to make every squad aware of that during the walk through. After the buzzer, sometimes the brain scrambles. I think they added the Ladies division late to help separate the prize table. It was less division based, although open would normally have a benefit. They are working on following something similar to what Aaron Hayes has started for the Magpul match and it will be a % based approach for whatever the lady chooses to shoot. Based on my experience, it was the best prize table by far for the amount of shooters that I have seen in a long time. They'll be back next year and it will be even better.
@@shooterray8160 Hey, Ray! I thought you did a really good job of ROing stage 1. The timer thing is an equipment issue, not anything wrong that you did. I do think that a match with a prize table should be using timers with the review working - we've all had the odd timer pick up a chamber closing or a bump on a gun or prop. Jeremy and Joe are both top shooters, they both deserve their wins. I'm using both of them getting on the clock coaching as examples of how coaching happens regardless, it wasnt punished here, it isn't often (ever, in my experience) punished at other major matches for multiple reasons, and I don't think we should pretend to punish it. We live in a world of Bluetooth phone connected sound amplified hearing protection. I can hear people behind me talk when they think I missed a target, and I usually wear traditional earplugs. Coaching is happening, if the match is not going to enforce the rule then why not approach the question from a new mindset? Maybe a coaching division? Maybe an extra attaboy for the top "non coached" shooter? A raffle ticket to the shooter on every stage that an RO certified was shot without coaching? Just ideas. The sport is in decline, we basically can't lose any more shooters. Which means we got nowhere to go but up! 😃
An idea for "COACHING": The Gas Gun series is adding a "SKILLS" division. That division allows coaching for the shooter (no coaching in other divisions). Might be something to consider.
Unless your game has a very strong tradition, understanding, and fully explained rules around coaching (Ex. Uspsa) I think it's dumb to kinda-but-not-really outlaw it. A division where it is allowed is one solution. Regardless of the rule, a rule should be enforced, though, and this rule was not being fairly enforced. Which is kinda the worst case scenario.
Looks like fun, BUT poor admin and comms really turns me off to a major match. As an MD, if you set up a communication conduit, it must be monitored and responded to. A match DQ is there to 1) punish unsafe behavior 2) avoid an injury or death. Any match DQ should not be allowed to continue. A lesser infraction could be given a stage DQ.
People allowed to shoot for no score after a Match DQ is odd, but it was offered to one sponsored shooter (who had an equipment related ND) and some shooters from A Girl and A Gun. I presume it was offered to all the people who DQ'd.
@@mygoodnamewastaken9837 the one that was allowed to continue from AGAAG was from a stage DQ from shooting a car door. It was just the Stage DQ, so not sure about the others. Ultimately, that is up to the sole discretion of the Match Director...and I've seen that discretion in multiple matches in multiple areas.
Thanks for the video. Was looking on Practiscore to find matches near St Augustine and found this FDCC 2 gun match. Looked interesting. Then Found your video in my search. Sounds like they allow shooters to break the 4 cardinal rules and the 180 rule. I was an RSO for Action Pistol matches in NC for several years. We ran a cold range. Anyone that unholstered before their turn was DQ'd. Rarely happened. We never allowed any of this other nonsense to happen and each course of fire was designed by a group of us. Sometimes people were DQ''d for safety violations while shooting, especially if they broke the 180 rule. They were then asked to unload, show clear, escorted off the range, invited to come back to the next match when they had trained better. Zero tolerance.
@rodd8608 If you're looking for decent matches in north FL I'd suggest SAPSA and SEPSA held af Tangodown or swinging down to Volusia on 95, it actually doesn't take very long. There isn't much multigun in this half of the state, unfortunately.
You got me by about 7% at the Alabama PCSL match. We should talk at the next match we're both at lol
Was this in st Augustine. I was going to do this as a first match lol. I’m obviously having second thoughts
@GuacIsExtra99 Just a touch north at Saltwater, yes. Depending on the type of match you're looking for maybe a USPSA match like SEPSA or SAPSA at Tangodown, or a steel challenge at Tangodown would be a good choice to start learning competitive shooting. If it's easier to head south for you, Volusa Gun and Hunt Club has nice USPSA and Steel Challange matches as well. If you want to do rifle Gainesville has some great PCSL carbine matches run every few months by Gainesville Practical Shooters. If you're North of Jax check out the matches at 17 South Rod and Gun Club near Savannah. I hear Brunswick GA has USPSA matches as well, but I haven't been. If you're near Orlando there's a good carbine match held at CFRPC.

Gator Toss comment still has me laughting!
Come to think of it, I've noticed Greg angrily muttering your name to himself at matches for the last year or two. I thought he was just saying 'good grief' or 'stage brief' or 'bay leaf' or something. I just ignored it, though. (You know how the bolts start coming a bit loose when you get to señor division) He's asked a couple of us to come over and help him with a 'special project' numerous times, too. But he'd never really elaborate. Just kind of stare off into the distance, scratch his forearms, and breath a little heavier. Anyway, it's probably not related. (Probably). Probably.

Definitely wouldn’t recommend a major match for newer three gun shooters. Three gun has a lot of moving parts that major matches just amplify typically and can be overwhelming for the less experienced 3 gun shooters. As for rules at majors (and most the locals I have shot) a basic rule set is typically published but depending on the stage design, location, specific safety concerns with location or design, the written stage at each stage is ultimately the rules for that stage.
Valid points! My word choice when I mention "newer shooters" is, truthfully, a way for me to say "less skilled shooters" in a diplomatic way. There were very experienced shooters who, for example, shot poorly on stage 10's array of ~30 pistol targets leading to yada yada yada you get the drift. I love 3 gun and I want it to succeed and grow. I agree that 3 gun has a tradition of poorly uniformed rules/stages, and I think that tradition is very high on the list of reasons why 3 gun shrunk/failed/continues to shrink/fail.

This venue looks like it has amazing potential. Match Command staff looks like they need some development. Inconsistent rule application will not endear shooters to return.
I agree about the venue, it has a great mix of long range, bays, and natural terrain options. It also hosts a large amount of clays/skeet/trap activities and I think that equipment could have been integrated into some fun stages. The match command really seemed to be making rookie mistakes. I know it wasn't their first match, but you could have fooled me into thinking it was.
Cool match! Nice shooting man.
Good seeing you. Cool shirt!
Nice shooting sir
¿El shotgun? ¿Porque no?
I think the match directors in the area swore it off for logistical reasons. Literally the closest 3 gun match to me is about 4 hours away outside Tampa, and those matches don't seem to be on practiscore so I'm not sure they're still happening. The next closest one would be Atlanta 5 hours away, according to what I can find.

How often do they do 3-gun matches in Gainesville? I'm really interested in excited about getting started doing that
From what I can tell, very rarely. The two main people who run the match mentioned something on the cadence of 1-2 times a year. When they do it is communicated via the Practiscore registration, where the title and descrption for the regular monthly match changes to communicate a 3 gun option. The pracriscore club link is: practiscore.com/clubs/north_florida_2_gun
Theoretical: Notions of capacity have ruined the shotgun as it relates to 3gun. Practical: 2gun grows or it's still 3gun except with a PRS or PCC. Actual: I DID NOT SPEND THIS MUCH ON A GLORIFIED SAIGA FOR YOU TO RUIN ME LIKE THIS. GO HIDE IN POVERTY DIVISION WITH THE OTHER FAILURES.
You don't suck to much.....love Dad.
Nice
I am resisting the urge to aggressively simp for magpul. yoU HAVE To loaD IT tHe RiGHt wAy Your use of the friendship ended template is exemplary, btw. And Kramer would be an AK guy, I bet. Or something really silly like one of those old Sig rifles that only boobs actually buy.
My pronouns are Kramer/wildcard. Ok! So that drum... I don't know how to describe it, but on post game inspection the Magpul drum sometimes puts huge pressure on the first couple of rounds. It's super weird, but sometimes I can push number 50 out with a pinky. Sometimes it's SUPER stiff for several and prevents the bolt from fully seating, in typical 1960s bullshit fashion. I have no idea what causes the difference. Even unloading it manually I get waves of spring pressure that come and go from different rounds throughout. I suspect that, perhaps combo'd with a rachet position, has something to do with it.
Interesting comment about the "B" zone. Depending what rules the match follows, most don't even score a "B" zone.
Yeah, it is rare and the GTR match does not use them consistently - it's stage by stage. But to make things worse, they don't buy the old USPSA targets that have a marked B zone either. So being scored a B for less penalty on a shot that would otherwise be a C depends on: the person scoring knowing that it exists, the person scoring correctly remembering that it is in effect for that stage, and the person scoring making a judgement call on shot placement in the B zone that isn't marked. I think a B is +1.5 sec penalty at GTR while a C is +3, so it can add up.
Looks like some good stages!
0:41 It is never wrong to shoot all the targets. Scores by damned. I would've been on my phone ordering the magpul drum the minute after showing clear on that stage, though. I always think about this clip when editing ruclips.net/video/ctr9ZfeyvXg/видео.html

Practiscore says I have 29 seconds of penalties for the match, and this match used scoring that was something like c zone +1, d+3, miss +5. I just put my penalties in seconds in the video. Stages 1, 5, and 6 had limited rounds, binary hit/miss paper, and/or limited time that added plenty of pens. For example, stage 1 pistol was limited rounds, mandatory reload, and a paper target with small scoring area. No one shot a clean match, I think I did ok all things considered. And yes, this is the month of Dicken drills! As trendy as it is, I actually don't mind short stages that focus in on one skill. It's hot out, y'all

The divisions for multigun could use a shake up, and with carry optics exploding for USPSA I think slide ride and shotgun dots in Tacops would be fine. They already allow (and thus kind of require) LPVOs, offset irons, 'stendos and drums, a pole vaulting 12 round shotgun, and assorted specialty gear in tacops - so I'm for it. Its possible that the new demand could spur along some cool new products to market too. I have other things I think they should allow as well (mag fed pump shotguns), and entire divisions that should be replaced (heavy) but thats a seperate rant! Can you zero that RMR at something like 7 yards to undo some of that height over bore? Or is it so far over the barrel that you can't crank it down far enough? And I like the talky talky format.
So! The RMR is currently zeroed at 30 yards with the dot being about 4.25 inches above the bore - I intended for it to be goodish to 50 yards and this zero puts hits ~3" low at 10 and ~3" high at 50. I could zero it closer, but with 4 inches to overcome you're just going to have offset at a lot of the under 50 yards close ranges you want that dot for. You have a good idea, but I'm not sure I want to use the 4x or Bindon aiming for 40 yard shots. The real solution is offset low mounted dot, AKA "throwing (more) money at the problem". Looking your way, Greg!
