Can confirm this is still possible solo. I also used Lu Bu. The path I took started top right then straight left back across the map, then up to Sima Zhao, then cleaned up the middle. I did save at pivotal times in case someone were to go down I could load and then change my route to go to them sooner. But I never needed to. I feel like if you keep the battle story progressing fast enough the story dialog takes the right of way and it prevents anyone from dying too quick. Just my theory. Long story short. Move fast. Kill faster. Practice.
