    The BMW board (I always imagine them as fat men with cigars) took frigt at the i3 and i8 and opted for stodgy machines like the 1990s but with batteries, they will regret it when the Chinese (who hired the old i3 teams) eat their lunches.

    I run winter tires on my 2017 Bev for the past 3 years , you can fit 4 cup holders 3 in front 1 under the armrest all mine are 3D printed ABS . Seat heaters fail only when wet or if you kneel on them and break the heating elements. Door seals I apply Rubber silicon to make it soft and rubbery. I 3D printed the charging covers and stuck them on the charge door for L2 and a flip cover the the CCS a Wokby hack. I put a smallpull tab on the Charging flap and gas flap when it fails to open during winter times. 12V replaced by BMW. I kept the front emblem and removed all others around the i3. All maintenance done by BMW , oil change, brake pads, I've done my own rotation . other than the tire selection (can use i8 tires too) I have no complaint, next is to upgrade to a 60kw batter to give it a 400km range + rex (100km) also bimmer codded to unlock the REX , disabled some annoying stuff and upgraded to a Rolls Royce startup screen)

    I have a 2015 FIT; it had the start-up VTC rattle. A company (Spring-Start) sells a spring kit that is stronger than the original spring and will stop the rattle. The repair is a bit involved, but you can DIY for ~$50 and stop the rattle.

    Hilarious that BMW made all of this story about sustainability but now i3s are getting thrown in the bin because they charge $6k for a single module that fails regularly. Price parts realistically so people can keep them on the road.

    • @thefleet
      @thefleet 5 месяцев назад

      In areas with cold weather, many i3 drivers use the seat heaters instead of cranking up the cabin heater to get a little bit of additional range. When you’re talking about the smallest 60Ah battery in the 2014-2016 models that’s undergone degradation over 8-10 years, every little bit of juice counts! If it’s warm all the time, then of course, no big deal if the seat heaters work or not.

      I can wear extra layers and use less heat, but that would be tough going without AC in the summer! 🥵 The i3 actively cools the battery using the AC system refrigerant when it’s hot anyway, so you’re still expending energy there.

      Do you see significantly reduced range in the winter as your i3 gets older, or is it manageable? On a 2016 with 60Ah battery, I get about 65 miles (105 km) in the summer and about 20-25% less range in the winter. Still useable, but I would be nervous without the REx! 😅

    I bought my 2009 Z4 35i in 2017 and it now has 144,000 miles on it. It’s been reliable for me. I installed new index 12 injectors a few years ago as one of the OE index 5 injectors was leaking fuel into the cylinder. I installed new plugs and high performance coils as well. Ditching the run flats made a world of different in ride quality and performance. It’s plenty fast and is so much fun to drive!

    • @thefleet
      @thefleet 9 месяцев назад

      I started with a 2009 35i as well, in Deep Sea Blue Metallic with the Ivory White interior. Loved that car and got great use out of it before upgrading to the 35is. Around 30,000 miles BMW replaced the injectors for the same reason under warranty, and I just had them do the plugs and coils while they were in there. Followed the same maintenance for the 2014 car to keep the N54 happy. No HPFP, water pump, or turbo issues yet, keeping an eye on those items! Totally agree with you about ditching the RFT and going to more “normal” tires. Really liked the Continental DWS06 All Seasons on the 35i’s 18-inch wheels. Other cars are quicker, but there’s plenty of kick from the engine/DCT combo and with the roof open and wind in your hair it feels even faster. You have good taste! 👍
