Добавлен 14 июн 2022
Join me on a journey into the beautiful Australian outdoors.
We have some of the best public land hunting on offer here in Nsw and wild deer, goats and pigs that are some of the best quality in the world.
They are all out there, you just need the will to put in the hard work and go find them.
Through the channel I will try and sharing my hunting stories with you and capture the essence and ethos of my hunting adventures.
I am by no means an outdoors expert but after a lifetime of outdoors pursuits, I hope to share some tips and advice that have worked for me.
I hope you enjoy the channel and maybe get some value from its contents. The forest is out there, immerse yourself in it, do the hard work and you will be rewarded with its fruits and a lifetime of great memories.

Maragle South. Fallow rut. 2024
I was lucky enough to draw a spot in the 2024 ballot for Maragle South state forest.
I was even luckier to draw the 10th to 13th of April. To many this is the peak of the Fallow deer rut and dates that are highly sort after for this forest. With only 2 spots allocated at a time, the number of hunters in the forest allowed at any one time is extremely low.
Even with the odds slightly stacked in my favor, I was not going to take this trip for granted. A recce the month before, cameras placed all over the forest and many hours on google earth and Avenza were spent in preparation.
Maragle is probably the closest a public land hunter will ever come to private land hunting.
The deer were plentiful...

Bowhunting Tahr. Public land hunting. New Zealand. Part 2
Просмотров 9008 месяцев назад
We continue our New Zealand adventure with a solid serving of West coast weather. 4 days of rain and rising rivers had of going a little stir crazy in the hut. When the weather finally cleared we got back at it and was rewarded once again, despite my best effort to stuff it up. Thankyou NZ for an epic adventure, we will be back!
Bowhunting Tahr. Public land hunting. New Zealand. Part 1

We head over to New Zealand with the bows to try our luck. Neither of us had ever hunted New Zealand before. The west coast was our destination and it lived up to its formidable reputation. Torrential rain, flooded rivers, landslides, a few sunny days and some great hunting. Nothing came easy but I can see why hunters love this place so much. Enjoy
Mangrove

We are lucky to have some incredible mangrove forests still intact here in Sydney. This one in particular is full of Rusa and makes for a fun hike and stalk after work sometimes. No deer in this one but if you look carefully you can see the game trails everywhere. We need to treasure these types of places and protect them for the future. Wild goats and Red deer. Public land hunting. Australia
Просмотров 16 тыс.10 месяцев назад
A weekend away on public land to try and procure some goat meat before it turned to hot here on the Australian hunting calendar. This was the last weekend to realistically hunt as the summer season was heating up fast. With temps in the high twenties, bush fires already starting and low game numbers, this was going to be a difficult hunt. Turns out I found more than I was looking for and by com...

A great weekend introducing a good friend to hunting. We gave it our all in some tough country with limited water and spike covered bush blocking our entire way down the valley. We were after goats in particular but found more than we were expecting Although we didnt take anything, we had a few good opportunities and saw some amazing sights. Never is never a bad day when you are out in the fore...
Sambar Deer Hunting. Public land. Victoria

A hunting trip into the heart of Lake Dartmouth in the beautiful Victorian high country. 7 days of amazing experiences and encounters with so much learnt in such a short time. The mountains are steep and thick and full of deer, a trip with a great crew that I will never forget. Sambar in the hills
Просмотров 4,4 тыс.Год назад
On this trip I spend a few days at a friends place out near the base of Mt Hotham. He had told me that there were deer that moved down from the hills above his place and would feed around the house at night. It has taken a few years to finally get down to see him and I was pleasantly surprised to find his description of the deer around his place was an under exaggeration to say the least. An am...

What started as a weekend backcountry hike to get rid of pigs soon changed direction when some larger than average wild goats showed up on the last morning. This video typifies just how productive our Nsw state forests can be, If you put in the time and effort, you never know what you will find. State forest pig weekend

A weekend hiking into a Nsw state forest to place some cameras turned into a full pig hunting trip. After spooking a massive boar on first light, they just kept coming. I only managed 3 this trip out of the 14 or so I saw but any pig down is good for our forests. How long did it take the deer to come back into the area after you camped there? 🤙
Love your videos man, truly an inspiration to all NSW public land hunters - absolutely cracking stag. Got to ask, how can you justify going to a forest 9 times without seeing any deer!! I would be very disheartened and would have surely given up long before - it obviously paid off, but just trying to understand why you didnt think to move on to a different forest or something? Keep bringing out vidoes man, really enjoying your content!
@@joshbrown5722 thanks man. I probably should have changed forests but there was just enough sign on the ground and evidence on my cameras to keep me coming back. I go out each time with a really low expectation, I just love being out in the forests walking around, if something happens and I shoot a deer, it’s a bonus. Hopefully have another vid out soon
@@dtbadventures passion and dedication mate, need to learn to be more like you when I go out
@@joshbrown5722 dedication definitely helps in the state forest game. As long as you’re willing to work harder and walk further than the next guy, it will usually reward you…. Eventually! 🤣👍
Late comment as just stumbled upon your vid mate... The size of that billy and consistant markings in the mob is because one of the local farmers has released Boer bucks into the wild to get some size into the ferals.. at one point goat was worth nearly as much as prime lamb so mustering them out of the hills was worthwhile... those younger goats would have made spectacular eaters!
The billys I've harvested are rank smelling, i think it taints the meat. Is it the same for you? Oh.. Forgot to say. Great video
Yeah, the billies I take stink!! Im very careful when I dress the animal, I constantly change gloves and make sure I don’t touch the fur and the meat with the same gloves. I’ll also clean the knife after skinning it. I find if I do this the meat is milder than lamb, even with the stinking billies. Cheers for watching it mate.
Knew it was coming up to winter when I saw the shot of the Red Robin, an old farmer/neighbour on the Southern Tablelands always said to expect the cold weather's coming as soon as you see the Red Robins appearing. I'm a bit north of Goulburn.
Hadn’t heard that one. Love those old farmers sayings, a ring around the moon means rain, horses tail cloud pointing at you means a storm. Ill remember the Robin one , thats a great one!
Nice video but a question why not remove some of the poor heads to improve genetics ?
I hunt for meat firstly, I only actively look for big bucks for the rut period. Really interesting question though, Im not sure you could manage the genetics in a public forest, it would take every hunter who goes there to be on the same page. I can see this being a much bigger discussion. Have you asked that on any FB hunting pages? Well worth a post.
Wow! Dream hunt. Great work mate, amazing footage, awesome video.
Thanks for all the advice mate 👍
Amazing video mate thanks for sharing. And thanks for showing that you don’t have to shoot as many deer as you see. Very inspiring! That’s how it’s done
Thanks mate, my thoughts exactly. Each to their own but for me it’s about the total experience while out there.
Yeah, wow! Great hunt mate and well put together. Animals everywhere, and to witness that interaction at close range... can't beat it. 10☆
It was a hell of a rut mate, not sure I’ll be that lucky again!
Awsome video as always mate
Cheers mate, thats good of you to say 👍
were you harvesting meat as well or just heads ?
I always take the meat, it makes up most of our protein at home. Nothing wrong with the meat on a rutty buck, butcher it correctly and it’s delicious.
Fantastic footage!
Cheers 👍
I thought you could only take one buck per year down in maragle south?
Gday Michael, as far as I could see and what I was told, that rule wasn’t in place this year, but if I did mess up, I’ll cop it and wear the consequences. No one to blame but myself.
Did you have a hunting mate with you bro, to share the hunt with? Mint vid. Cheer to your success. 🍻😎
Not on this one mate, most of my hunts I usually go alone. Cheers for the cheers 👍
great footage man
Thanks man! Loving the NZ stuff you’ve been putting up lately. Looked like a hell of a trip.
Amazing hunt and amazing footage. Well done! Thanks for sharing.
Yeah, I got lucky with the ballot and the dates. Cheers for watching it
Nice work. How do you register for the ballot
NSW Dpi send out an email prior to the rut to enter the ballot around Feb I think. If you have an R license, you should get the email.
Great video mate 👍🏼
Cheer mate, appreciated the comment 👍
Awesome footage and congrats on the ballot draw.
Thanks mate, had to make a video of it. Not many of us will ever get a chance to hunt that forest at the peak of the rut. The hunting gods were smiling on me, thats for sure.
The investment in the new Sony has paid for itself after that footage nice work Dave and well done on winning the state forest lottery.
Def faults with the camera but its ok, the zoom makes up for its faults and thanks, was extremely lucky with the ballot draw!
@@dtbadventures I have seen a lot of good reviews on the SONY DSC-RX10 IV I believe that is what you purchased what are the issues you are having.
@@michaelhourican7211 focus throws out in manual of its own accord every so often. SLog2 is rubbish to use and color correct and the chip cant process Slog3 apparently. Also the native color profile always needs adjusting. The camera was released 7 yrs ago and they have stopped firmware updates so you are buying an old tech camera. Sony are not making an Rx5 which is a shame. Still a good camera for its weight. I use to shoot Canon 5d with 400 L series lens but bugger carrying that around with everything else 🤣
@@dtbadventures yes I am currently running a Z9 with a 100-400 for the long stuff and a Panasonic 4K video camera for long hikes it’s a lot to haul a round but I’m a photographer first hunter second.
Congratulations, seems like a bit of luck and hard work paid off.
Thats the state forest hunting motto 🤣👍
Awesome footage mate well done..
Thanks Tony
more bow videos pls
Trying mate, trying 👍
Love the content mate 👍 how good are croaking stags?!
Thanks mate. And yeah, best sound in the forest 😁👍
Great work Dave. Good hunt, good shooting, good video.
Thanks Steve
I was there late march nothing like that lol no croaking no where near that many scrapes it's crazy what a few weeks difference makes
100%. I did a recce start of March. Deer were in opposite end of the forest and 90% were does. A few weeks changes everything!!
🤙
Cheers
Epic vid!
Cheers
Thanks heaps mate. That was awesome
Glad you enjoyed it 👍
Awesome job, thanks for the video Dave
Thanks Huon
So happy for you Dave! Great video. Congrats!!
As close as public gets to private 😁👍
awesome video thanks
Thanks mate
What scope is camera area you using?
Its a Sony RX10 24-600 optical zoom with x 2 digital zoom at 600
Dave I must have missed this one just picked up on my feed today while at work. Which SF was this in just interested as it looks very familiar especially the end with the Reds, if you want to dm it would be great to confirm the location but i have not seen goats in the area. Thanks Michael Hourican
Hi Michael, central west state forest. I find most of them in that area have most species.
P1000?
Sony RX10
keep the videos up mate, hard to come by good NZ bow hunting videos like yours. watching from France
Cheers Gavin, we were pretty lucky for our first trip. Hows the Chamois hunting over your way?
good job man, some nice footage an good stalkin
Thanks mate, how good is it over there!!!!
Relaxing video hope u upload more video big fan mate❤
Thanks, glad you like them 👍
You are a legend.
Cheers mate
Well said mate great job love it
Cheers mate, heres hoping this year is as good for everyone!!!
What caliber ?
30/06
Really enjoying the hunts just curious On what sorts of distances are you covering from the car looks like your hiking in a bit
Anywhere from 5-25kms on average. I drive a Subaru so my access is already limited but I find the extra walking can be very productive with the areas that most people drive past.
Awesome video mate. Dream hunt with the bow 👍🏼
Thanks Harrison, it was one hell of an initiation to NZ, thats for sure!
You make it look easy! Well done Dave!
Creative editing mate. I assure you it wasn't 👍😂
How good Dave! Brilliant camera work and well done on taking a Tahr! Thanks for bringing us along mate! Cheers
Cheers mate, hope life’s been treating you well 👍
It has mate! Cheers
Awsome stuff mate 👍
Cheers Michael, appreciate the comment.
Good view
Thanks mate
Seems more like a nature documentary.. Lol
Thanks for noticing mate. I try to put more into them than just footage of shooting something. Sometimes that doesn’t even happen but thats hunting, right?
Good footage mate, what’s the pack you’re using?
Thanks mate. Pack is an Alpz Outdoors Hybrid X. Not a bad pack, 40ltrs, has great features and packs out a whole fallow easily but its a bit pricey.
