I am exactly at the same junction. I have been working as a Software engineer for no of years but now I am ready to pivot my career toward Product Manager. I feel that having the in-depth technical knowledge of the Tech stack can give me an edge as a Product Manager. Can someone share an advice on how to land my 1st position as a Product Manager/Owner. My resume is full of Software engineering positions and I lost my position recently during a round of lay-offs at my firm. All the new positions that I am offered are for the SE positions and not Product Management. Does completing a few Product Owner certificate along with Scrum/Agile certificate helps in this endeavor. What are your thoughts ?

The thing that made me quit Notion pretty much right after starting to use it is that it doesn't work offline. What's the point of meticulously taking all those notes, organizing content into databases and building an entire second brain if you can't access it when the wifi is down or it takes ages to load on your phone because of a slow data connection??

software engineers are the scapegoats of the industry. all pressure and blame goes to them and all praise and credit goes to sales marketing and product managers. the only saving grace is the pay (sometimes)

When I first discovered Notion, I was overjoyed with the customization options. I was high on making sure all my pages were organized and aesthetically pleasing... to the point where I lost the plot completely and became stuck in a false sense of productivity. I then stepped back and redid all my Notion pages, keeping everything as simple as possible. Now I only open it when I actually have something to do, instead of endlessly fiddling and tweaking the pages.

I guess I need to watch the video again because I am not understanding her point of why it is actually better. Notion does have a learning curve but once you get past that it becomes a powerful second brain. When you get use to customizing things the way you like it you get use to how you customize and it becomes second nature.

0:45 " so if you are maybe on the fence about either notion or obsidian then maybe this video is for you" This video couldn't have come at a better time. I've been using Evernote since 2015. Been thinking of migrating ever since it started getting ridiculously slow and having sync issues. The "50 notebooks and 1 notebook" limit was the last straw for me. I'm a legacy user! I already have 400 ish notes for crying out loud! I wasn't willing to pay yearly for a basic note taking app that crawled at a snail's pace. I imported my Evernote notes to Notion a week ago. It's nice and all, but pretty slow, bloated and with too many bells and whistles. I've wanted to move to Notion ever since Ali Abdaal made a video on it 4 years ago but it seemed too intimidating then. Obsidian seems a better option for casual, lazy users like me, not to mention it is lightweight and has offline support since it's all local. Just wish it had free sync for Android and a web version.

So you blame the tool for its too "good" and too customizeable instead of looking into yourself and maybe that your discipline is your problem in the first place that you spend days customizing Notion instead of working...Applause.. Just get to work dont blame it on the tool..

for me I don’t take my notion so seriously so i love the fact that it is almost like a hobby at this point. i love creating/customizing new databases and pages and improving my pages. that being said I don’t take it seriously because I’m not in school and don’t use it for work or anything so I mainly use it for reading tracking and personal writing , habit tracking, agenda, etc.

After watching the video, basically she left Notion because it takes too much time to customize it and she spends her time more on customizing it than doing the actual work. This isn't problem with the App but the user. She has a particular workflow she prefers and specific ways of doing things and she wants the App to be built around her than meeting it halfway. Good thing there are Notion templates out there that you can buy so it already looks good for use. Note that she did mentioned she is not the creative type so that's also a problem with her not good with matching icons, fonts, colors hahahaha I use notion, all the time :)

As a writer, I used notion for a couple months and have found it too distracting. I prefer to use Ulysses to write, Notes for note taking and research gather and all my other apps integrated in my phone for to do lists and calendars. I think trying to make Notion more than what it is (a database) is where people get a sunk cost bias and keep trying to make it “pretty”

When Obsidian has a web app connected to my notes in an easy to edit way I'll switch, but until then I'll stay with Standard Notes. I don't have the luxury of being able to use Obsidian Sync on my work computer so even if Obsidian is clearly extremely good, it's useless for me and many others.

I got to the point that I can't improve my Notion anymore. It took me 4 days in a row to design my whole workflow, pages and subpages, as well as how each of them were going to be displayed as "side view" and how they were going to have "center view" or "whole page", I have a balance between functional and aesthetic, now I move forward without distractions and I don't usually configure my Notion again. Keep in mind that it took me much longer to learn Notion and I found it too complicated before, so I stopped using it as I wasted time trying to get organized. I found that no template I saw was going to suit me and I ended up making my own templates by learning from other people.
