How do you develop the discipline to start over?
How do you build habits to keep going?
And how do you find happiness in what you do?
I was surprised when I got one and the same answer to all of these questions: Build an environment that helps you stay focused on your goals. 🎯 An environment that keeps distractions and friction to a minimum. An environment that gives you more time for what brings you joy and meaning.
If for you - as for me - this goes along with creative work in the digital space, then this channel is here to help you build such an environment. For deeper insights, check out my Skillshare profile. For updates, subscribe to my newsletter. More questions? Just send me a message. All the best!

Great video. Thank you.
Thanks a lot, worked perfectly after about an hour of tinkering with it
Thank you so much for this video, u r the best! Liked and subscribed i love how u explain things, and that rhyming makes me auto sub u LOL, love it!
You kinda look like Brad Pitt haha, thanks for the tutorial too tho
You're the first channel I subscribe to watching only one video... Keep it up!
I remember how brilliant Roam seemed to me when I first heard about it........then they said they were going to charge $15 a month.........at that point, I'm not using it on principle.
Syncthing is no longer available on the google play store for android ? I can't find it when I search for the application.
Like everyone are saying. Keep up this quality and your subscriptions will explode! And yes. More obsidian content please!
Wow, thanks for sharing that information! It's such a helpful and efficient guide.
I am a 77 year old engineer. My memory has become poor and I still do work that requires remembering (like home automation: circuits, programming, and system design). PKM with Obsidian is my method of augmenting my declining brain and it certainly helps. I enjoyed this video. Well done. Thank you.
hey man, your videos are awesome. Why dont you keep uplod videos consistently? so, you can gain more followers. Your story telling is good, content is good, but you dont have consistency. With consistency your channel will be perfect. (request from a viewer)☺☺
just connect my linux laptop with my windows pc thanks
Thanks, I will try DropSync then
Syncthing doesn’t work properly
Thanks for sharing
Arent the autosync apps available for ios? Does somebody know?
Thanks for this! I can type faster than I can write, and I like that I can search on words in the text. The hashtags help in that regard to think of keywords.
Möbius Sync is a third-party iOS app for Syncthing, allowing you to synchronise files between iOS and other devices (including Windows, MacOS, Linux, Android)……
What a great storyteller!! I enojoyed while learning, that's a double win not usually achieved. You remind me of the great James Burke! Congrats!!
I'll let other knows here, there's a great plugin for this in the community plugin browse tab: obsidian-syncthing-integration in github and obsidian in-app community plugin browse, tab section. currently the implementation is still in beta, no issue but some caveat rn is https option in the GUI could be chosen but there's a workaround first that must be done in the github issue, it's a workaround so not official yet, im currently fine with http, since using git means running a risk of tripping my knox since i got sensitive apps in my phone. the ignore pattern (.stignore) is:.obsidian (I prefer this even tho it means i must do plugin managements myself, but considering this is an advise by forum member, i picked this) the api key is in your syncthing GUI settings, the username and password must also be the same in the syncthing GUI and the plugin UI. the mobile has the ping: pong test (API status). while desktop also include the syncthing version test (CLI status). the base URL must match too.
It works. Thank you. ❤
thank you so much.
Thanks. Sync with google driver works
This was a really well-put together video - informative, funny, and with a lovely sense of character. I also love your bookshelves!
what apps you used in this video for Journaling and linking idea pls pls bro say
I’m using Obsidian and Readwise. Highly recommend both.
High quality underrated video
Easy and straight forward. Thansk for the video mate.😀
I did the syncthing but it made me lose all my plugins. Now I have 0 plugins installed on my obsidian on pc and I forgot the names for a lot of them so I gotta track them all back down and redo all the colors and icons.
Did you backup your files? The information about the plugins is contained in hidden files that should be part of your backup. Can't stress enough how important backups are. They are very important.
You have great hair
I like this guy. He is funny
One of the most straightforward guides on the Zettelkasten method. You capture the essentials in a video and let people do the research on those things they didn't get (like the numbering system). Cheers from Chile 🇨🇱
Jesus christ this video is 20 minutes long, full blown lecture just to sync my bloody notes
Amen.
This is from a chat with Chat GPT 4: - Mind Maps and Learning Complex Topics - **Purpose of Mind Maps** - Mind maps are visual tools designed to organize and represent information in a hierarchical, non-linear format. - They help in understanding, retaining, and recalling information by showing relationships between concepts. - **Typical Use of Nodes** - Nodes in a mind map typically contain keywords or short phrases. - The brevity of nodes helps maintain clarity and readability, allowing for quick reference and connection visualization. - **Challenges with Longer Notes** - Long notes can clutter the mind map, making it harder to read and follow. - Squinting to read detailed notes can lead to cognitive overload, negating the benefit of the visual layout. - Complex or lengthy information in nodes can cause users to lose track of connections between nodes. - **Effective Use of Mind Maps** - Keep nodes concise, using keywords, short phrases, or single sentences. - Use additional notes or external documents to provide detailed explanations, linking them to the mind map for reference. - Utilize colors, images, and symbols to differentiate and highlight key concepts without adding textual clutter. - **Balancing Detail and Clarity** - Break down complex information into simpler sub-concepts that can fit into shorter nodes. - Use hierarchical structures, with primary nodes representing main ideas and sub-nodes for detailed points. - Supplement mind maps with more detailed study notes, keeping the visual map as a summary tool. - **Conclusion** - Mind maps are most effective when nodes are concise and clear. - Overly detailed nodes can diminish the benefits of visual connections. - Balancing detail with brevity ensures the mind map remains a useful tool for mastering complex intellectual topics.
perfect. the google drive sync community plugin didnt work well for android + desktop, this works like an absolute charm. thank you so much for this
effort for a long video dosent gone wrong usefull for many people across globe
Nice video , really enjoyed the rhyming and thanks a bunch for your detailed explanation on each of the use cases .
But how do the numbers work?
You mean the numbering system that Luhmann used for his notes to link them together? I'm afraid I couldn't explain that, and I don't consider it relevant either, as links in a digital card index can be created in other ways.
can it embed video files and/or online video sources ?
Yeah, you can embed PDFs, videos, and images and upload any file to cards. You can double-click on embeds and see them on the canvas. (As described here: scrintal.com/features/cards; here you can find some screenshots of how it looks: scrintal.com/comparisons/mural-alternative)
I am still a bit confused about how you store the notes so they are easily retrievable using this method. If anyone could help clarify this, it would be greatly appreciated.
Hey, I use descriptive file names for my notes, which usually makes searching very easy. I click "cmd o" to open a note and type in a keyword that is in the name of the note or is related to the note. In Obsidian that’s usually enough to immediately find the right note. I've never actually had a problem with not being able to retrieve a note, as the search can use the entire content of the note to help me find it - unlike with the conventional, paperbased Zettelkasten. I don't use Luhmann's numbering system, which doesn't seem necessary to me in the digital version of a Zettelkasten.
Thank you.
Are you still active?
Yeah, I think so. I'm currently writing my Master's thesis, which is taking up all my capacity alongside work and family - but AFTER that I'll be back. 😉 However, the last RUclips videos I produced and the next ones I will produce are on another (German) channel - I hope to have time for my own channels again next year.
@@djlensing i would Love that. I really like your meta-content concerning content an gonna be starting my degree in Hagen just like urself this year. Edutainmant seems hard, the intersection between being informative and educarional is a dangerous one. Either you are to boring/getting lost in the Detail, or not enough. Haha
Whoa how does this channel only have 3.4k subs? The amount of work and love you put into your videos is on par with channels that have 500k.
I like that! It's a very direct, no-nonsense approach to the problem, which is exactly how I feel about data. We own our data, and that's a good thing!
Also resilo sync
Wow. I guess I'll just... use Simplenote and then copy and paste it. I'm way too dumb for this. 🤣
I have an iPhone, will this not work for me?
at 1:40 you are actually showing the antikythera mechanism (an ancient greek computing device) which is much much more advanced than an astrolabe. 💫 ruclips.net/video/-I_Ns7O35cE/видео.html
Could use an update. The process of syncing via Syncthing is not nearly as straightforward as depicted here--took me about 7 tries to get my Samsung Tab 6 synched with my laptop. Would follow the directions and fail. Uninstall Syncthing, Obsidian, reinstall, try again, fail again. Uninstall, reboot, reinstall, try again, fail again. And so on. I actually have no idea how I finally got it to work; I did move my Obsidian vault into the Syncthing Sync directory, but it still took additional rounds of uninstall, reinstall, reboot, retry, etc. before it suddenly just started working. Not a great experience.
This is the most useless video I have ever seen. If you keep saying you're a layperson, and to look at the documentation, why are you making a video.
My appreciations. You helped me so much.
