Welcome to my little corner of RUclips, where I share my various hobbies and interests as they relate to material culture of the past! I dabble in a number of time periods, from SCA projects in the 9th/10th, 14th, and 16th centuries, as well as various decades from the 17th century through the 1950s. I'm currently on a medieval kick, and have several upcoming videos focused on projects from the 13th-16th centuries.
I put out videos the second and fourth Wednesday of every month!

Planning A Late Elizabethan Capsule Wardrobe & Deciding What Not to Wear
This video is the introduction to a long-term, open ended project I'm about to start, all about making capsule wardrobe that can fit within the 1590s through the 1620s range, with a primarily English focus on styling. My goal is to get a base outfit made by sometime this summer, and then add pieces to it here and there as I go. Step one is to finally wash my linen so I can get started on a new shift.

Sometimes you can find plastic cutting board liners/flexible cutting boards at the dollar store so there is another source for thin plastic sheet
You can also get a single hole punch from the dollar store.
I usually make my cards out of playing cards, but I also got some of those vinyl dinner mats from the dollar store and they work great and are more durable than paper. I still use both.
Can you show how this is done from the beginning? What you need to do a project like this from start to end. Including the cards, thread and everything.
Beautiful! Did you get tighter or did the design change? It looks different than the lower part. I find this very interesting and would love to try it from the beginning of the work. I would like to have a list of things to get before you begin so that I can follow you please. I love this period of time and I am very interested in doing patterns in it.
Thank you! Great tutorial! I cant wait to make these!
Question regarding weaving backwards to decrease twisted yarn do you weave complete pattern backwards what was going forward goes backwards and what was going backward goes forward? In the midst of huge tangle help
I just started buttons, and I m using N 3 crochet thread in red.
Hello, I bought pins online a few years ago to use on my 1805 bib front gowns. unfortunately, they did not go through the cloth. They weren't as strong as yours and I have a few of them left. Do you think I would be able to hammer them to harden them? they seem to be made of brass as they are gold in colour. lastly could you tell me where I could buy ones like you have, I live in Australia.
Do you have a video about how to create the hairpieces?
WOW! This is one of the most beautiful band weaving pieces I have ever seen!!
This 👀 like so much fun ~ I can do what I call “normal tablet weaving” ~ but have never tried this ~ now seeing your video ~ I’m willing to give it a go!
How do you get the holes in the same place every time? I made my first set out of playing cards today and the hole placement is super inconsistent, even trying to use a guide to mark them.
How do you manage to get the holes in the same place every time?
OMG I love the idea of making the cards with 2" biz cards of your badge!
Beautiful 😍❤
This is so nice 😍😍😍😍
what a talent
Thank you! I just found your twist build up video. Much appreciated! ❤💐 Inta
Thank you!
Hello, it’s nice to meet you here How are you doing?😊
Thank you! How do you deal with twist build up in patterns where individual cards get turned in uneven numbers? I use the back tie method. It's a nightmare of untangling more than weaving! I love your work! Inta is my name.❤💐
What material did you use inside the green fabric? A heavy weight paper or something else?
That method for hardening the wire is exactly the tip i needed. I really wasn't understanding how to get a sturdy pin from that wire.
That lace is lovely, but I am liking your video just as much for the message about human rights at the end as anything else. :-)
Wonderful! This is exactly the video I needed! I don’t have a jewelry anvil, so I‘ll have to think of another solution to harden the brass wire….
Any piece of steel will work for this. (So if you or a family member has a bench mounted vise, that would work. Or your local scrap metal yard will surely have something) The jewellery anvil is just shinier 😂.
@@australobuchia I ended up using a scraper, like for plaster. it worked just fine! :)
@@hdubbs9174 Perfect! Glad you found a solution.
super helpful thankyouuu!!
Advice from a tatter. If your hands are very dry plastic tatting shuttles will simply slip right out of your hand (or in my case Launch). There are several ways to deal with this. The cheapest and least destructive method is a bit of painters tape on the outside of the shuttle where you grip it. I personally rub my fingertips on a lump of beeswax which gives me that tiny bit of grip I need without creating the snag hazard tape can cause.
The Design is from the medieval period 😌 it's a medieval brocade design
How long does that take
Wow, beautiful!!
Combo of backstrap and my right foot for my first round of tablet weaving. I have an inkle now, much easier to disengage if the cats start fighting or puking. lol
I love the idea of using 2" business cards
This looks lovely! I can't wait to try this for myself
Plastic folders could also be used. Different colors could be used to help numbering...every 5 or 10 cards.
that's funny I use fishing swivels too! i discovered using it on my inkle loom really helps. another thing I do is make up a weighted loom over a chair or desk
Hello, it’s nice to meet you here How are you doing?😊
Any one try using MD board i started making them then i started to wonder is it too think 4 mm i never have done tablet weaving i don't want to make abunch too find it doesn't work
So would MD board work
Did you end up finishing this? I looked, but couldn't find the video on how you put it together. Enjoying your channel.
So…I have a question. With this technique is it possible to then do a double face brocade with a triple shed (normal, lower and upper)? This video demonstrates the shed being divided into two separate sheds resulting in a brocaded design only on one side by utilizing only the upper portion of the shed as the secondary shed. Can’t the lower portion of the shed also be used for a similar result? Obviously it would be more time consuming, but wouldn’t it also almost eliminate the “running stitch” of the brocade as it distributed between sides? Also, it would be pretty cool to have a single or even a secondary brocade design on the reverse side
Slavic women did not wear temple rings S-type in this way.
Beautiful
12/10/22, 0830 Eastern time. I am wondering how do i take a regular weaving pattern on an inkle loom and set it up for card weaving. Where to put each thread in which hole and from front or back. Etc. Thanks.
Hello, it’s nice to meet you here How are you doing 😊?
birka 22 is gorgious :D 😍😍😍😍
Hi. Do you have any examples of these rings in period, or are they not documentable?
This was an excellent tutorial. Thank you!
Very creative idea using the swivels. Others rotate the cards (Z to S or vice versa) is that something you prefer not to do, and why?
If you used 10 gauge and hammered it would never bend
Hello fellow Scadian. 🙂 I would love to use your pattern but I understand if you can't share it. Appreciate the video ☺️
Thank you for this video!!! This looks like a great way to use some of my travel paraphernalia for like, practical things, instead of simply collecting dust/taking up sketchbook space!
Where did you get your cradle loom? I’m looking for one and can’t seem to find one anywhere. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you
Sorry, found your link and ordered! Had a “duh” moment. Can’t wait to try brocade. Thanks for the great video
