    1:10. F stops from 3.5 to f22 in full stops? It has no detents so there are an infinite number of stops between wide open and f22, not just full stops.

    • @danienelphoto
      @danienelphoto 21 час назад

      I suppose it is a matter of terminology - yes you can set an infinite number - my reference, that should be better communicated then, is that is is denoted /indicated as full stops (more like half a stop from f3.5 to f4 also!), but is stepless or declicked (also not technically the correct term, but lens people would understand). The problem with setting the in-between aperture stops is, is that you cannot reliably set something more accurately than more or less half a stop, so even of you could do all the possible fractions, it is unlikely you will be able to know that you set it...., yet, shooting most films, with the latitude available, it would not matter. Thanks for your input, next time saying not clicked/denoted would be more accurate, so will make a note of that.

    I can't help but think these shots would've looked so much more dramatic and moody if Fomapan 400 was used instead, the flatness of kentmere just doesn't do it for me, but there were definitely some keepers on that roll! Another great vid Danie! Keep them coming 👏🏻

    • @danienelphoto
      @danienelphoto 4 дня назад

      Thanks - yes, I agree with you. One has to work the film quite hard to get nice contrast, although the mid-tones are quite smooth. The Kentmere 100 is lovely, especially in 120, but instead of the 400, I would also lean to Delta 400 or even HP5 in future. I haven't tried Fomapan yet, but will soon. Thanks for checking in, much appreciated!

      100% man, I am really stoked. On the scans - medium res, not ultra high res, I can't even pick up aberrations. On a high res, I think you probably will, but even coma and all that, negligible or at least not visible in the current scan size. As long as your scenes are pretty wide, and in the infinity range, this camera delivers. Closer up, I presume you will have more issues.

    You used to be able to get Tudor film, here in the UK. It was often a freebie given away when you had a film developed, so that it cunningly encouraged you to use their services again. I think it vanished with the advent of digital. Great shots, in any case.

    Howdy. I'm here after reading your interchange with The 120ist. I am also a lover of vintage glass. (Shhhh, don't tell anyone!) I had this lens 30-years ago when I was an AE-1 shooter. It is nearly a perfect focal range for 35mm photography. (I sometimes wished for 28mm, though...) I found it to be acceptably sharp for my work (mostly shooting concerts in small venues, some outdoor photography, and my family of course), especially stopped down a little. If I was still shooting Canon film cameras, this would be in my kit. My favorite Canon lens of all time was the 50mm f/1.4 SSC in the old FD mount. I still have one on the shelf and that makes me think I need to take it for a walk with the Sony A7Sii. Nice review. Well done.

    • @danienelphoto
      @danienelphoto 26 дней назад

      Thank you for your kind comment. It is so funny, 30 years ago when I was about to go to uni for my photography degree, these were just lenses! Lol, now its vintage. I suppose I am too! I didn't really care too.much about 35mm, as I was shooting Mamiya 645 almost exclusively for my pro work till 2006, so the 35mm stuff was aleays an afterthought, so I missed out on learning about Canon lenses a lot, those days. It was basically just "get a decent zoom for the odd event things I did, and bands too! That 50mm 1.4 SSC is legendary, even though I don't have yet.

    I have this camera along with a ton of other Pentax k mount cameras including MX, LX, k1000, Super Program, KX etc etc... It was my moms camera... this thing sat in a damp garage for 30 years before i found it. threw some batteries in it and it came right back to life. and it just works... prob never serviced, shutter is accurate, everything worked... timer, meter is accurate, and its just one of those cameras that you can always count on being reliable... its everything you need, and nothing you don't. It takes Pentax glass, tho the rikenon 50 f2 is actually good.. sharper even than my pentax 50 1.4s to my suprise.. It has slightly less slow shutter speeds, but is better that the k1000 in my opinion and can be had for practically nothing.. its worth twice as much with portra 800 in it... great alternative to learn on and get into 35mm photography for like 40$

    • @danienelphoto
      @danienelphoto Месяц назад

      Exactly! I am a K1000 fan no doubt, but I love the Ricoh, and is definitely an easier tool to use. I love the simplicity, but it is simple in a way that is efficient. I am about to start testing a Novoflex 400mm with PK mount, and I will be using the Ricoh, rather than the K1000.

    • @danienelphoto
      @danienelphoto Месяц назад

      Not the intention to mislead..., especially since I am not selling or promoting it. There are many online forums where this is suggested and thus I examined it, and you can see as well what my conclusion was. However, to correct your mistaken assumption, this is in fact a discussion that was had on FB groups where I participated in, and true to form to discussions like these, some claimed it was enthusiastically, and some held your view, enthusiastically. A quick intermet search would show this is in fact a topic of discussion, with this particular article claiming it is parfocal to 85mm. www.cined.com/ancient-optics-canon-fd-35-105mm-f-3-5-multi-format-zoom-introduced/ Or www.flickr.com/groups/canonfd/discuss/72157634551287530/ Or www.photo.net/forums/topic/395842-canon-fd-35-105mm-f35-lens-scales-interpretation/ And www.canonclassics.com/canon-nfd-35-105mm-f3.5/10-110/ There are scores more, but I think you should catch my drift. Absurd is a strong sentiment, and given the amount of discussion on it, probably ill-informed. You seem to also just be giving your opinion (an inalienable right, so please do!), but if indeed mine struck you as such, my apologies for causing you displeasure. I (sincerely) hope you were able to watch a video with more edifying results afters :). Thanks for checking out my review anyways and bothering to engage.

    I recently picked up a pair of lenses that were labeled as Vivitar lenses, but they were both made for Vivitar by Tokina. 1) 135mm f2.8, 15 blade vertion. A really nice lens. The ability to always have round bokeh balls it=s super cool. And the bokeh of the lens is very nice. Its also and very sharp lens, even at 2.8 and the colors and contrast are very strong and punchy. The other is a Auto Zoom Vivitar 35mm-105mm f3.5. This one I bought because I have never tried a vintage zoom before and this one was priced right. It turns out that this was also a great buy. I was blown away with how sharp it was. I thought it was gonna be a blurry mess. Its sharp across the focal range, the colors are very similar to the 135 lens, strong and punchy. Contrast is a little less strong, but still good and very useable. It has a "Close Focus" feature that is very interesting to use across the focal range.So it has 4 rings, focus, closer focus feature, zoom and aperture. Tokina did a great job with both these lenses!

      Had an intersting chat to the camera repair guy here... the problem with super fast lenses is that in order to get it tack sharp, the lens develops chromatic aberrations, and to get rid of that, you sacrifice sharpness wide open.

    • @stevocem
      @stevocem 2 месяца назад

      @@danienelphoto yes, that’s interesting. I noticed that just a very minimal focusing change can change the appearance of longitudinal chromatic aberrations a lot. You might be right about sacrificing a bit of sharpness when needed. I will try to play with this aspect again.

    Ek het seker 30 vintage lense wat ek gebruik vir my Sony. Ek weier om duisende uit te haal vir n moderne lens. My opinie is dat die ouer lense meer karakter het en verby die " o jou kwaliteit van foto moet flymskerp wees". En watter beter plek as die goeie ou Stellenbosch om te wys wat hulle kan doen. So jou cheap vintage glass is puik. Dankie vir die "upload". Cheers uit Oregon.

    I have a Voigtlander Bessa from the 30s (I believe) that is very capable of producing good images. Not as tack sharp as my Rolleiflex, but very pleasing. EDIT: but I should also mention it's very easy to make mistakes on these cameras :)

    • @danienelphoto
      @danienelphoto 2 месяца назад

      I do believe it is quite reasonable to expect good images, if your camera is in good condition. If the bellows are good and the lens clear, then one must just take care that the front "standard" is parralell to the film plane, and it should be ok. Also, the iris and shutter can give issues.

    I recently had a similar outing with a Kodak Autograph. With my recent vintage Pentax 35mm drive I stepped away from MF for a while… I found the Autograph great fun to play with and I really should burn another roll or two before writing her off…bellows light leaks were a real issue… You make me wanna go scratch for a 400 ISO roll of 120…👍🏻

    • @danienelphoto
      @danienelphoto 2 месяца назад

      Light leaks in folders are unfortunately a big issue, especially if the are almost a century old. I think you should get that 120 into the Autograph and de-Pentaxify a bit!

      Cheap Vintage Glass is the series's name, and it refers to the price relative to new modern lenses. It was indeed expensive then, but as I live in the present, I refer to its price now, but no disrespect to the quality or value of these. I couldn't afford it in the 90s either, so I get your point :).
