A nice afternoon out on the local river and small stream, the season as always over in a flash, hooked a couple in tricky spots and unexplored runs, great fun!

A wee look at the runs and pools of my local small stream, a couple of Wild Brown Trout and a lovely scene to finish with. Its not all about catching!

Typically, had 4 Trout but only one on camera up the local stream. Cocker Spaniel Ghillie was in spook the fish mode! After a year, editing its still a work in progress!

With the local river looking not so inviting due to algae problems (or pollution!?) a trip to the small stream tributary that feeds it, with its clear water and keen wild brown trout.
Match The Hatch #browntroutfishing #flyfishing #matchthehatch

We all have days on the river when we struggle to land a brownie or two, it only takes a great, uplifting 15 or 20 minutes or so when things go well to restore the confidence. When my dry fly is ignored by a rising fish, more often than not switching to an emerger (Klinkhammer) sitting just below the surface does the trick! The Yellow Dry Fly to match the hatch was duly gulped down soon after. ...

I had a great wee session on the local water, the Cocker didn't cause too much trouble today, each clip has a wee wild brownie, wet flies and dries equally successful, yellow and dove, parachute Adams and a scruffy parachute fly with no name, Cheers!

A day out on the River Devon, the stretch I wanted to fish was full of campers so had to make do with lots of slower water. Look our for a major rod malfunction and some really dodgy editing!

A few casts with the wet fly before enticing a decent brown trout with a Greenwell Glory Dry Fly. Was casting a little short at first, a wee adjustment and manged to land a lovely wild brownie, magic!

A few hours on the local burn then on to the river, the fishing is certainly picking up, a decent brownie at the end of the video caught on the Griffiths Gnat, ran out of battery before I could say thanks for watching!!

Small stream Fly Fishing-Lothrie Burn Dries
Halo,viele Grusse!😊
Aye Davie, it soon comes around! I had a week off last week to get some late season sport. Enchanting wee pools on that burn, and a couple of wildies too. That bit of the leven looks the sort of spot where a 2" streamer could produce something big? Especially at this stage of the season. Well done, take care Davie! 🙂 👍
Gone in a flash Dave, some big fish in the Leven for sure, all the best
I promised myself that this season I'd do this, that and the other, but only managed a couple of the things I'd planned. How do they go by so quickly?
Season flew by Chris, good and bad days and about 3 streams visited out of about 10 planned!
amazing how these tiny watercourses can hold our attention so strongly! very much like the headwaters of my local stream! great fun Davie! 👍😊
Much more satisfaction Dave, landing a tiny fly in a likely spot and watching it get smashed, cannae beat it!
Niceone Davie, I have the same when fishing the Daddy for our small trout. It certainly brings the fish up, but not the easiest pattern to hook them on.
Lots of fun though Chris, do you have your end of season outings all sorted out? time running out fast
@DaviekFlyFishing just waiting to see what happens with the thunder storms we're SUPPOSED to get. Our rivers could do with a bit of a lift. I did pop out to the little moorland stream yesterday and bagged some footage to put out over Christmas (oh God, I just mentioned the C word)!! At least it will give me a bit of editing to do whilst I'm trapped in with the family🤣
@@chrismatthewsflyfishing7724 Tell you what, some folk have the pyramids, New York or the like on their bucket list. Dartmoor is certainly on mine 👍
It's a special place Davie, you'd love it , mind you you've got plenty of fantastic rivers in Scotland, maybe one day I'll cast a line up there?👍@DaviekFlyFishing
@@chrismatthewsflyfishing7724 Fished up here much Chris?
Love the spaniel lol
I blame her for spooking fish before i get to them!
Like the way your dog just casually walks around the river, nice trout keep up the good work 👍
@@JoeQuinnFollow_the_fln She enjoys her wee days out, usually a packet of ham in my pocket to keep her sweet!
Nice outing Davie, that burn looks awfully low now, fella! It's been hard work here, but now we have water..... Noticed the jumpers back on, it won't be long here either! 😂 Here's to a great September 👍
Certainly low Dave but its never really much higher from May onwards, quick spate and then drops again. Been so windy up here lately. Was down in Holmfirth on Friday, River Holme looked inviting! Your neck of the woods?
Quite a good way from mine fella! Its south Yorkshire but i know the river, and Holmfirth. theres some monstrous trout in there but i couldn't find out about permission, clubs etc when I looked into it. 👍
What's the verdict on the maxcatch glass rod Davie?
Love the rod Chris, not had anything of a decent size on it though. Nice and easy casting. You have one too?
@DaviekFlyFishing no, but I'm thinking about it, I'm told they're tougher than carbon fibre if you take a tumble. They also have a nice "through" action, which apparently leads to fewer hook pulls. Maybe next season?
@@chrismatthewsflyfishing7724 Definitely worth the money, not expensive
The great thing was we all got to see it , a really nice Brownie , and it was returned . Magic .
Good work Davie 👏 I've suspended myself from trout fishing this week as its too hot down here for fish welfare. Hopefully, cooler next week. And a drop of water wouldn't go amiss 😮. Love the Lothrie 👍👍
@@soultrader57fishingandmusi25 It's even been above 20 degrees up here believe it or not! I have 2 Burns about 10 miles from home to explore Dave, looking forward to it. See you again when it's a bit cooler👍
Nice video. I haven't done much dry fly fishing and only recently started with nymphs. But it looks fun so I will have to practice fishing with dry flies soon.
pea & ham oota chicken, noo that's clever 🤣 great fishing over the burn & rocks, David & nice wee chilled video to watch, the surroundings are lovely
Cheers Daniel, a great place to unwind and only a 5 minute walk from home
Nicely done, Davie "Orange fly at night, anglers delight"😅 I'm sorry to hear about the main river. Over enrichment seems to be endemic now.
Giving you a shout there Chris, there was nothing left of that fly by the end of the evening! The River Leven had a horrible tinge last summer for a few weeks too, maybe is Algae from the Loch, people are still catching but I'll wait until it clears, just not pleasing to the eye. Hope to have some different small stream outings soon, you seemed to have your mojo back last time
@DaviekFlyFishing yep, mojo restored, off to fish the little Dartmoor stream tomorrow (although it looks like we might get a bit of rain), and that always makes me smile 😃
I've walked passed this part many times since they done it up and never seen any movement. Might give this part and the town park a visit soon.
@@paulwyse878 First time I'd seen any fish rising in that run Paul after 4 or 5 visits the last few seasons, quite deep by the rocks, it always looked promising 👍
@@DaviekFlyFishing next time I'm out for a walk with the wee one I'll give it a wee try. Used to see some fish on the main bit after the sluice where the depth guage is years ago but nothing recently. Might give that a tickle too.
Well done. What river is this??
@@jumpjump2906 River Leven. Markinch viaduct
Nice when you can crack the code! Well matched👍👍
Well done Davie, nice to get a fish first cast👍 I had the same issue with the same net and gave up on it in the end and changed to a snowbee one with finer mesh.
Cheers Chris, good for the confidence when you match the hatch, restores the faith
Hi Davie, is this Glenrothes park again ?
Yes David, wet fly worked down by the cricket pitch. Dry Flies up the Lothrie Burn
@@DaviekFlyFishing thought I noticed the infamous white bridge, braw video by the way
@@davidfarley1913 Cheers, didn't have to edit too much as I caught a few for once!
nice one D, noticing yellow flies around n putting on wee yellow fly, first cast n catch. Dugz playing hide n seek n seeking biscuits oot yer pocket, lovely bit of fishing under the bridge btw
Cheers Daniel, great when you get it right regarding what fly to use, Luna was after the chicken slices in my pocket! The bridge area is a new wee run that wasn't accessible last season, great fun. A lovely wee burn, the Argyll streams will be smashing I'd imagine
@@DaviekFlyFishing you would love some of these burns David, they look ideal & they are running straight from the sea, perfect for sea trout n Salmon coming back into lay
River Devon recently has been hard fishing. Well done on your catch. Couple of weeks ago, was pulling double figure catch. Lucky recently to catch the odd fish.
I wanted to fish the run at the glendevon bridge but campers everywhere! Beautiful part of the world, cheers
@@DaviekFlyFishing if you are looking to fish at the Dunning bridge. Best Monday to Thursday. Once it gets to Friday, the wild campers move in. Not worth attempting to fish. Place is a right mess on the Monday morning. It was up at the bridge on Wednesday night. Good rise of fish at dusk. Upper part is well worth a try. Was this bit you tried. Just up from the fish farm?? Looked to give that a blast next time out
@@jumpjump2906 That's right, up through the bull field at your own risk,!
what a lovely wee spot & walk down to it, could spend the whole day ther
Hi Daniel. Beautiful around there for sure. The Ochil Hills for a backdrop is hard to beat
nice wee location
Lovely along the Ochils Daniel
nice wee session, Davie. nice chunky trout up there. easy to tell its Scotland as you're still wearing a jumper😂 looks like that pretty river could use a drop of water now. 👍👍
@@soultrader57fishingandmusi25 Yeah, a spare River Dave. Doesn't have a happy medium really. Jumpers certainly aren't just for goalposts up here!
😂😂
Belter there, Davie, some serious trout turing up there now! Strange that a fly so English (especially the name🤣) should be so popular in Scotland. I like to do an emerger version with one wing looped, like a fly struggling to get out of the nymph case! Good to see you doing well 👍
Another good upload. Nice fish. Love that Luna is your gillie. Tight lines 🎣🎣
Is that down at the steelworks davie ?
Hi David. It's at the Weir in the Town Park. Some good fish in that run
@@DaviekFlyFishing the town park in Glenrothes I take it Davie,,, anyway, braw video and a new sub, cheers
@@davidfarley1913 Aye, G-Toon! Thanks for the sub, trying to make the videos more watchable! Where do you usually fish?
Real "hit and hold" there Davie to stop that fish getting into the fast water below you. I think my spaniel would have eaten it!
Indeed Chris! Had most of my bigger fish just at the drop off the Weir, a great run with fish nearly always rising but not always keen on my flies or iffy presentation! I'm away to watch your latest adventure 👍
Nice one, Davie! Nothing quite like that savage pull when your mind starts to wander! 👍
Jolts you back for sure, Dry Fly Sport is the best but a wee wet on the swing has its moments!
The classic patterns are classics for a reason Davie👍
The tried and trusted Chris!
Nice one Davie, you need to get a stack of batteries mate, you never know when that red lettter day might show up👍although so far filming hasn't helped my success rate at all.
You'll be catching on the Wickham soon!
Nice video. Just submitted. Any chance you could put on subtitles as I'm from Cork City in Ireland👍
Cheers Martin, I will try to on my next videos, still learning this editing lark! My accent can be quite strong sometimes! Been to Dublin and Donegal but not Cork. Good fishing there?
Good day there, Davie! Great to see the action kicking off. Very bonny waters you have there. I'm thinking 2 different streams? The one at the end looked bigger 👍
A 2 minute walk and I'm fishing Dave. The wee stream is the Lothrie Burn, tumbles down from the Lomond Hills into the River Leven. 👍
@@DaviekFlyFishing that's 3 minutes nearer than mine! 🤣
Gid videos m8 ❤
Cheers Jamesy!🎣
Tough going there Davie! That river is really tanking through! Nice bit of scenery though. And a couple of juniors to make the trip worthwhile! Good to see old trad wet flies in use- thats a dying art! 👍
Cheers Dave, I do fish mostly wets until things liven up. North Country, Yorkshire and Clyde Style Spiders- sparse, things of beauty! I'll be giving it a go with 2 flies for the first time this week. My dad says all you need on the River is a wee Black Spider!!
He's probably right! 😊👍
Great new video 👍 River fishing has been very challenging so far. Great catches. Tight lines 🎣
Cheers. Still a chill in the air, wee bit warmer next week, should help🤞
Is this leven in fife?
Yes, Town Park, near the old hippo pond👍
Used to live around the corner and sometimes fished that burn, but usually fished the Leven. There's some decent broonies in there for the size of the water.
Sure are, great wee burn👍
When does the season start there?
Hi Kenneth. Started on 15th March🎣
i fish here sometimes still no luck have more bother with the trees sometimes lol
My 9 foot rod is a bit big sometimes. Less snags with the 7ft 3wgt👍
@@DaviekFlyFishing I will need to get another rod for small streams and burns using a 9ft 6/7wt I started off at fishery
Well done, Davie, I see you've got the same stealth trees as us. How do they creep up behind us without us noticing? Still flooded off down here with more rain to come for the long Easter weekend 😫😫 I must admit I'm starting to go a little stir crazy!!
Hi Chris, I thought I would leave in some footage of getting snagged in those creeping trees, I lost 2 flies in the first five minutes and that's with the vegetation not existent. The local River is sky high, thankfully the wee tributary is ok. All the best when you get out on the water.
Was the lost flies in the trees or river bed?? I managed to lose a load at the weekend. The gusty winds, making cast on the 2 weight rod almost impossible. Keep up the great work 🎣
flies were lost in the trees, I don't lose much in the actual water, never tried nymphing and very unlikely to. I was using my 4 weight but the wind had died down by the time I hit the water. Cheers for the comments
Some great fish caught. I swap between indicator single nymph at start of the river season. As fish still deep in the river. Then switch the guideline rod onto serious light dry fly rig. Your help and advice pointed me towards the Guideline lps set up. Great that it does both nymph and dry fly on one rod.
Nice one, Davie! Bonny little burn there! Very similar to my own wee stream down here. Also, those trout look like ours, even the bigger mature fish retain the parr markings. Something to do with the woodland environment?? Good result for this stage of the season with cold, heavy water! 👍
Dave, the only two bites resulted in Trout, Ill have to pay more attention to how the fish look! I tend to get too excited to notice, but the red spots really stick out, the smaller one was quite golden, happy days.
God loves a trier! Well done Davie on venturing out on that beautiful wee stream, but I thought from the outset that the conditions were against you! Similar in my neck of the woods, ive got new pools and piles of shingle in place the old pools ! All to be learnt again! Very cold today, but river dropping, i may get out tomorrow! Good luck for 24 season 👍👍👍
All the best to you too Dave, I have a good feeling for the season ahead and as you say, might be the same burn but need to figure it out again 👍
Thanks for the new video. Here is to tight lines for 2024. 🎣🎣
Been a long time coming 🎣
happy chap
For sure Faither
Stunning burn where’s this about
Conland Burn. Hopefully still be enough of a flow come May
I got permission to fishing the pond but over to the left by the bridge there was foreign guys killing small brownies and police were called
