TENOR TALK: Embrace the “VOCAL CRACK”…Use it as a tool for laryngeal relaxation & development
The dreaded “VOCAL CRACK”!!! 😱… …can actualy be one of your best tools for vocal development and is actually a very good tell tale sign that your larynx is under too much tension. Allowing the larynx extrem freedom to be loose and jiggle up and down is a great way to alleviate unwanted weight and pressure from a chest heavy sound. (A sound that’s not allowing the vocal cords to stretch and thin...

I'm sorry, I don't think everything is entirely correct. I sing in one register and no more passaggio. The vocal cord does not have two divisions, but consists of one band per side. These can be of different lengths because of the different halves of the body and mix the sound. Your change comes from not being relaxed enough, hence the change to head voice. The fact is and remains that the intensity of the sound must sound the same from C5 to C3! If you mix in head voice the way you explain, then you only change the expression and intensity. But if there are too many changes, especially in the phrase, the viewer has stress while listening and so does the singer. Nevertheless, your voice sounds great and a lot of it makes sense. The larynx must also be open when inhaling, so always!

You did Nabucco?! I ADORE Maria Callas as Abigaille! Well, to be honest, I love her musicianship in everything she did! ...I think that you just pulled an Arden Kaywin! I've been watching her videos, and she is all about changing your mindset. Think of mistakes as tools for growth. Allow yourself to be perfectly imperfect. I have discovered recently that by embracing my mistakes in life as tools to grow stronger from, it is helping my singing as well! :) I think that I mentioned in your video about the passaggio that I want to start practicing Marchesi's bel canto vocal exercises. I started yesterday, and the first exercise is just a single note held for 3 beats, and breathing on the 4th beat. You are supposed to pay special attention to how you onset. It should be effortless, decided, and without jerkiness. For the female voice, it starts on middle C, and goes up chromatically to around F5. For me, it is helpful to envision each dotted half note as 12 sixteenth notes connected together. Your vowel grows progressively taller and more resonant the longer you sing. By thinking of it as several short notes connected together, you are already kind of in coloratura soprano mindset, and you are less likely to drag up vocal weight as you go up through both passaggios. Oh. Women's voices have 2 passaggios for anyone who doesn't know. Why am I saying all of this? It goes right along with what you said about allowing the larynx to be free to vibrate, and shedding vocal weight as you ascend in pitch... Take care. Thanks for making this video! Susan

Your vídeos are great. I would like to ask you, is your tongue position learned or you found it to just sound better for your tone? Im saying this cause I noted you like to keep the tip of your tongue "floating" instead of resting down.

I get that this video is for already knowledgeable singers. The amount of frustrated singers out there because their teachers only tell them to focus on the breathing. Note to begginers: Yes, breathing matters, of course, but the actual singing happens inside the throat. The muscles inside there need to be trained and taught how to work together and what to do to be a team. You don't become a great singer or develop/grow a voice by learning how to breath only.

This is the clear evidence that singing “Beautifully” and having a nice voice, necessarily means a good-non confusing advices….because I could not called this a Technique. You could not resume in four tips what Operatic voice technique is in order to produce a healthy sound! Is very irresponsable; many people watching this… with every step interpreted at its own way(because every step is provided with his own sensation on his own instrument…and every instrument is different! Is not based in explaining for an example what mechanism you need to do in order to open your throat, as one of the steps indicates, so… actually not teaching anything, just saying “I am felling this when I do this”…. So please…. Be careful when you see this kind of videos: operatic singing takes time and calm and responsable technique with your precious instrument!!!! Best of luck!!!!!
