Every Album Ever | Episode 208: King Krule
Просмотров 556День назад
This week we’re discussing every album by King Krule, the stage name and project of London’s Archy Ivan Marshall. King Krule is what you get when you blend jazz, indie, psychedelic, and trip hop, all while coating it in the dreamiest production you can imagine. Maybe his style isn’t for everyone, but his production prowess alone is worthy of deep analysis. Mike and Alex disagree big time on Kin...

This week we’re discussing Wild God, the latest album by Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds. The first official Bad Seeds album since 2019’s Ghosteen, Wild God shows the band with more energy than they’ve had in years. Ethereal, gospel inspired, and jam-packed with lovely passages and melodies. Cave fans should not miss this one. Patreon: www.patreon.com/everyalbumever Merch: pandermonkey.creator-spring...
Every Album Ever | Episode 207: D'Angelo
Просмотров 58921 день назад
This week we’re discussing every album by D’Angelo. Don’t let his over the top sensual music video for “Untitled (How Does It Feel)” turn you off (or on), D’Angelo is the R&B artist to convert any skeptics. Jazz, hip hop, soul, funk, and brilliant collabs with Questlove and J Dilla. A truly fantastic songwriter and performer. I hope you all have spare underwear ready. Intro/D'Angelo Overview 00...
"NO TITLE..." by Godspeed You! Black Emperor | Album Review
Просмотров 371Месяц назад
This week we’re discussing “NO TITLE AS OF 13 FEBRUARY 2024 28,340 DEAD,” the latest album by Godspeed You! Black Emperor. For those familiar with the band, this album (and its lengthy and political title) will not surprise you. However, that is far from a bad thing. “NO TITLE…” shows the band as heartbreaking, beautiful, and dynamic as ever. Godspeed rarely disappoints, and this album is no di...
Loose Ends | Merciless by Body Count

This week we’re tying up some loose ends by discussing Merciless, the latest album by Body Count. Led by the legendary Ice-T and high school friend Ernie C, Body Count is back with another intensely brutal thrash album. After winning a Grammy for 2020’s Carnivore, Merciless shows the band as heavy and charming as ever. Plus we got some guests on here, including Cannibal Corpse’s Corpsegrinder, ...
Every Album Ever | Episode 205: Metallica (Pt. 2)
Просмотров 1,4 тыс.Месяц назад
This week we’re discussing every album by Metallica from 1991-1998. This is such a strange era for the band. They dominated the world of rock music with 1991’s The Black Album, then returned 5 years later with short hair, eyeliner, and southern hard rock songs. Most people dismiss these mid-90s albums, but how do they really hold up all these years later? Intro/Where we left off in part 1 00:00...
Mansuetude by Buñuel | Album Review + Interview

This week we’re discussing Mansuetude, the latest album by genre-hopping noise rock maniacs Buñuel. Vocalist Eugene S. Robinson is most known from the now defunct Oxbow, whose recent breakup devastated us. But Mansuetude is an entirely different, but no less amazing trip into chaos. Eugene, Xabier, and Franz from the band also blessed us with an interview, which you can find following our revie...
Loose Ends | Redd Kross's New Album

This week we’re tying up some loose ends by discussing the latest and self-titled album by Redd Kross. If you like Redd Kross, there’s a very good chance you’ll like this album. Jeff and Steve McDonald have never been shy about their love of the Beatles and 60s garage rock, so this album scratches that itch if you have it. Be sure to check out our full episode on Redd Kross’s discography, episo...
Every Album Ever | Episode 203: Geto Boys
Просмотров 7592 месяца назад
This week we're discussing every album by the Geto Boys. If you thought 2 Live Crew was too family friendly, then Geto Boys have just the right amount of smut and over the top violence to satisfy you. Made up of Willie D, Scarface, and the 3'8" Bushwick Bill, Geto Boys helped pioneer gangsta rap, in addition to their own brand of violent and cartoonish misogyny. But these days, most would proba...
Cool World by Chat Pile | Album Review

This week we're discussing Cool World, the latest album by noise rock band Chat Pile. Although simply labeling an album this brilliant, engaging, and endlessly original "noise rock" is doing it a disservice. Cool World is the follow up to 2022's God's Country and it expands upon it in every way. This is a juggernaut of an album and one of the best this year. We're joined this episode by Tom Osm...
Hiraeth by Respire | Album Review
Просмотров 2193 месяца назад
This week we're discussing Hiraeth, the latest album by Canadian "post-everything" band Respire. If you've ever wished Godspeed You! Black Emperor had more black metal elements, then this is the band and album for you. Respire even adds touches of screamo here a genre we typically have little interest in to give this record quite an original style. There's some real good stuff here. Patreon: ww...
Every Album Ever | Episode 202: Flipper
Просмотров 1,5 тыс.3 месяца назад
This week we're discussing every album by Flipper. While known to many as a huge influence to bands like Nirvana and the Melvins, Flipper are a punk band unlike any other. They're as amazing as they are terrible, but completely unique and bizarrely innovative. After founding member and bassist/vocalist Will Shatter died in 1987, they've gone through various breakups and reunions, even as far as...

Lives Outgrown by Beth Gibbons | Album Review
The guitarist was John Ricci, but not the same John Ricci from Exciter.
I think you should have read up more on the band : Joe strummer sounds like he always does. If a band has a right do do reggea its Clash as I said. They grew up in the Reggea part of London . I saw Burning Spear there and its very reggae area . They speak English with and London accent !
Two of the clash members grew up in Brixton home of British Reggea . They learned playing their instruments from reggae. Police is not a reggea band. Clash plays genuine Reggea in their way. Theirs Firestone album , Black Market Clash , London Calling and Sandanista are all great albums for different reasons . Sandanista many may say is a flawed album , but that’s is its greatness. After more than 40 years it still sounds fresh and filled with ideas
I think this is their best album since Allelujah, Don't Bend, Ascend.
I went to a ween show in 2004, the show you’re speaking about you watched live was in Orlando , I went to to see them at Jannus Landing in St Petersburg Florida, they played alone, for 3 hours and they knocked my bougnish off !
I yelled at that same guy at the Ween show !
You guys should really check out Failure you'd love em🙏
fuck i loved this band, ever since the early 00's
This year end wrap up is fantastic. I try to watch your videos / reviews when possible, but I didn't realize how many great albums I'd missed over the year. Thank you x100.
Great lists! Mamaleek, Beth Gibbons, Chat Pile, and Godspeed are definitely standouts to me. There was an overwhelming amount of good music this past year. Some other favorites of mine... Muuntautuja by Oranssi Pazuzu: Kaleidoscopic, industrial black metal. These guys are incredibly consistent. Probably my pick for album of the year. Inorganic Rites by Krallice: Another stalwart atmospheric black metal band that made a great album. 'Hinderer' is one of my most played songs of the year. Provisional Living by Terry Green: Twangy post-hardcore/screamo. Reminds me a bit of Is Survived By by Touché Amore. Very solid. Higherlander by Edhoculi: Progressive post-hardcore with some classic rock riffs. Like... a lot of riffs. Diamond Jubilee by Cindy Lee: Hypnagogic indie rock. I'm a longtime fan of Women (the band) so this was an easy slam dunk. Happy New Year guys! 🎉
Why is the part where u listened to live through this muted?
guy on the right is drunk
Calling I Can't Put My Finger on It "The Platypus of songs" while wearing a Disco Volante shirt
they should release instrumental versions of the albums
This was super enjoyable to watch! I have not been able to pick up much new music this year, but was delighted to see your high esteem of many old favorites - Godspeed, Beth Gibbons, Shellac, Neubauten and even Nick Cave. It would be fascinating to see you walk through Neubauten’s body of work. I followed them religiously for nearly 30 years, but have not heard the latest album. Same with Cave… I gradually lost interest, when Harvey and Bargeld left the Seeds. I will definittely also be looking up some of the albums you rate so highly and that I have not managed to get around to like Idles, Bunuel, Knocked Loose and Chat Pile. A suggestion, when it comes to Gothic Americana would be Sixteen Horsepower (you mentioned Wowen Hand, which I also really like, but 16hp was hard to top for me.) Looking forward to view many more of your episodes and following your continued episodes. I will go and pledge on patreon now 🙏
Thank you! Definitely going to keep Sixteen Horsepower in mind too.
Chat Pile's Shame is my song of the year. Absolutely devastating lyrics, and the horror continues right now as I type this comment.
Cheers, lads. Some great recommendations here that I'd not heard of before. I'm looking forward to listening to the Chat Pile, Beth Orton, Einsturzende Neubaten and Godspeed albums. I did think that the Fontaines D.C. album, 'Romance'', would be included.
Hi Mike and Alex! I just discovered your poscast. It is great!! Thank you for this fantastic and entertaining “intro” or “guided tour” through Melvins’ music. Special appreciation to Robert for unpredictable and novel perspectives, and for adding humor!
Finally an end of year best of list that actually gets me excited to hear each album. Great analysis, the enthusiasm is contagious.
Brat is easily album of the year. No mention, can’t even take you seriously.
You seem like a guy who goes to a slasher movie who hates violence. This is not the channel to be praising pop, regardless of the quality. I can get that elsewhere, this channel is to find bands (or be reminded) that aren’t mainstream.
@ yeah but I’ve heard all of these and Brat is better than Night Palace lets be real here
@ Huh? How can you even compare the two? What is better a beatles album or a television? Make your own list, that way you can place everything in the order you want, but you watch these guys to hear THEIR opinions, not ours.
Anthony Fantano and Rolling Stone exist if you want to be told how great brat is.
@ who is anthony fantano

Gothic country is one of my favorite genres. You guys have a lot of great stuff ahead of you if you ever go down that rabbit hole. I would probably describe the genre as "Sounds like late 80's Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, but with more bluegrass influence." 16 Horsepower were one of the pioneering bands and only had four studio albums, so they'd be an easy one to cover on the show. I only listened to about 15 new albums in 2024, but my favorite was Oranssi Pazuzu - Muuntautuja. Probably the best industrial psychedelic black metal space rock album you'll hear this year. Probably the only industrial psychedelic black metal space rock album you'll hear this year. Geordie Greep was my #2. What can I say, that boy's a super greep, super greep (he's super greepy.) Opeth - The Last Will and Testament is #3. Opeth were a band I stopped listening to for the past 15 years or so, but this album rekindled my love for the band and made me remember how good they were/are. The Cure - Songs of a Lost World is my #4. Basically the same thing I wrote about Opeth. The Vision Bleak - Weird Tales is #5. This is basically one long 42-minute gothic metal song cut up into 12 shorter tracks that segue into each other. The songs are somewhat unsatisfying taken on their own, but work wonderfully within the context of the whole album. Much better than the other gothic metal albums I've seen getting praised this year (Tribulation, Unto Others)
I was curious about gothic country after doing this episode, but now I'm certain we'll have to cover some in the future.
Love your channel guys and those behind the scenes. Hope you all have a great coming year! 🤘🏼
Perfect pick for album of the year Alex.
Great lists guys as always My album is Idles Tank too But Amyl and the sniffers Cartoon darkness is my second. And obviously All the trains Shellac. Kim deals album is great too. Hope for a pixies episode this year. Maybe Manic Street preachers?
“Me & the Girls” is transformative
Jerkin is my favourite
And remember i did say that tangk was mega before you heard it

Another great year. 2025 is the year of Neurosis review. Keep up the great work! ❤🎉
They’re coming back?
@@rensopinto2139Two Part Review Hopefully
@@Babypapayaproductions oh I misread. I thought you meant the year neurosis makes a comeback. I didn’t read the word review lol
KISS literally did all obscure shit on Unplugged, sans maybe 4 tunes. They did it with energy, but they did a great job showcasing how much the band had evolved over 20 years. Nirvana was overrated in many ways. They had excellent creativity, chemistry, & punk rock vibe. Their 3 studio albums are really good. They are fascinating, but not because they were the trendy hype of their time.
I really don’t like being mean on the Internet, but this is some half ass shit. the butt hole surfers were a full ass band and you both are holding back so hard. Fuck being mean hope you’re both well.
I also bought Cop back when I was in junior high, around 1988 or 89, and loved this shit ever since. Later on I got into GODFLESH, old industrial like Throbbing Gristle, Psychic TV, and that lot
You guys saying demons sing love song should be cut is mad, genuinely one of my favourite songs oat
Cherub was amazing at the cabaret Metro the first two times I saw them.
SDRE is my favorite band of all time, so it's hard to say any of the albums are less than perfection. i wore out the black-cast casette tape of Diary by sub-pop in my car my senior year and the year after, playing it every day. LP2 is probably, artistically their best work, but The Rising Tide got better every time i listened to it, until i came to the conclusion that it is a masterpiece of songwriting and execution. The Fire Theft is a damn good album too, just something different like Jeremy's solo work. They dropped a new song in 2024 with a cool video. Check it out. Also they are still touring. I met Jeremy a few times in DFW in the late 90s and i think his smoking and maybe voice coach advise made him change what he was doing on the first two albums to something more sustainable.
been listening to them since '93. i was 13 and heading into highschool. blew my mind.
Regarding the 3 "reunited" Dolls albums. I remember making a CD-R of my favorite dozen tunes off those 3 albums. In my mind, it was the album they should have made. There were plenty of uninteresting tunes on those that I tried to like. It was well over a decade ago though. I still enjoy the first 2 original albums though.
Alan's On Fire is the best hardcore song ever written.
Always appreciate more Archy content ❤ If you liked him (and have any spare time lol) I think his live tracks (on RUclips and his live album) are better than studio a lot of the time. Love the video guys 🙏
Great band, great aesthetic, great tunes, punk vibe, and lastly not at all as weird as y'all are making them out to be! Also: who cares for virtuoso vocals and academic synth chops anyway ...?
The reason they are s preachy is that anarchism is in its roots a radical evangelical Christian cult, even if they would deny this all day long.
Suicide were not "good musicians"? That's an indredibly stupid statement. First of all, music is not all about performance and "musicianship", those guys were huge pioneers of sound and artistic vision at least as much as Kraftwerk were. Alan Vega came from a fine art background and Martiv Rev was a jazz musician who played with some big names in New York prior to the formation of Suicide.
The Bruce Springsteen reference is intriguing when you consider their roots. But in the end, Chat Pile's music is more honest because they're more in touch with working class struggles than Springsteen has been in decades. He's beyond all that at this point. These guys still see and feel it, and it comes out through the sheer intensity and power of their music.
1:09:08 sounds like swans
I could understand why someone that fell in love with the teenaged punk band in 1980 might dismiss RTB. But you guys don't get the transcendent glory of "Stay Away From Downtown" and that makes me sad.
He mostly played everything himself.
Tommy did the backing vocals as well
The jug sounds better on Evolution live the fx of it does
The label a joyful noise is a sun ra reference ! Love the Melvins !!!! Been collecting there vinyl and going to see them live for about 26 years now and they have never disappointed me !!!!
“This isn’t punk music.” Oh yeah? What’s punk music? Do you mean a punk sound? There’s no such thing as a cookie cutter punk sound unless you are influenced by Jann Wenner’s useless rag and therefore a certain sound is what you expect from punk rock. Punk was just the name of the underground Rock n Roll scenes in cities across the world. Bands that were too sick and derelict to be signed to majors. The music ranged in different styles. You could do whatever you wanted. No rules. No set style. The Cramps were one of those bands. The Cramps did what they wanted and they were there from the beginning. They never compromised. The Cramps were dangerous and low brow. All a kid needs in life is a MAD Magazine and a Cramps record and there you have it: a true punk in the making. It’s certainly frustrating watching critics categorize every Rock n Roll band into a sub genre but at the same time it’s gratifying when it doesn’t work and viewers get to see the confusion on your faces when you mutter “this isn’t punk music”.
While You Were Out was a transformative record for me. At that time the world didn’t really know the name Soul Asylum or at least I sure didn’t. But it challenged me in a way nothing else I was hearing did and I gradually learned to love every song. It was also a “rock” album which was sort of a new thing at that point with respects to punk/underground/college rock or what have you. An early hint at what would come later in the 90s. Anyway, that’s not to say it’s a must-listen now. The appeal is fairly niche I’d say. That one and the Clam Dip ep you guys neglected (check out a song called P-9 if you dig Twiddly Dee, more of the same but a bit leaner) and then Hang Time were the big 3 for me. After that my tastes started to diverge a bit and also yeah they started to get more commercial. I still remember the first time I heard Shove. It wasn’t bad at all but it was definitely made to be a hit. I still liked some of their songs throughout the 90s, (I thought Misery was more like their 80s stuff) but only paid attention in passing.
