Are you a music nerd? If so, we already love you. Every week musicians and music lovers Mike Mansour and Alex Volz dissect the entire discography of a different artist-album by album. That’s right…even the albums these bands wish you forgot. It's great. Especially if you love arguing. Come discover some amazing new artists with us every Tuesday!
Every Album Ever | Episode 205: Metallica (Pt. 2)
This week we’re discussing every album by Metallica from 1991-1998. This is such a strange era for the band. They dominated the world of rock music with 1991’s The Black Album, then returned 5 years later with short hair, eyeliner, and southern hard rock songs. Most people dismiss these mid-90s albums, but how do they really hold up all these years later?

Mansuetude by Buñuel | Album Review + Interview
Просмотров 261День назад
This week we’re discussing Mansuetude, the latest album by genre-hopping noise rock maniacs Buñuel. Vocalist Eugene S. Robinson is most known from the now defunct Oxbow, whose recent breakup devastated us. But Mansuetude is an entirely different, but no less amazing trip into chaos. Eugene, Xabier, and Franz from the band also blessed us with an interview, which you can find following our revie...
Loose Ends | Redd Kross's New Album
Просмотров 20521 день назад
This week we’re tying up some loose ends by discussing the latest and self-titled album by Redd Kross. If you like Redd Kross, there’s a very good chance you’ll like this album. Jeff and Steve McDonald have never been shy about their love of the Beatles and 60s garage rock, so this album scratches that itch if you have it. Be sure to check out our full episode on Redd Kross’s discography, episo...
Every Album Ever | Episode 203: Geto Boys
Просмотров 686Месяц назад
This week we're discussing every album by the Geto Boys. If you thought 2 Live Crew was too family friendly, then Geto Boys have just the right amount of smut and over the top violence to satisfy you. Made up of Willie D, Scarface, and the 3'8" Bushwick Bill, Geto Boys helped pioneer gangsta rap, in addition to their own brand of violent and cartoonish misogyny. But these days, most would proba...
Cool World by Chat Pile | Album Review

This week we're discussing Cool World, the latest album by noise rock band Chat Pile. Although simply labeling an album this brilliant, engaging, and endlessly original "noise rock" is doing it a disservice. Cool World is the follow up to 2022's God's Country and it expands upon it in every way. This is a juggernaut of an album and one of the best this year. We're joined this episode by Tom Osm...
Hiraeth by Respire | Album Review

This week we're discussing Hiraeth, the latest album by Canadian "post-everything" band Respire. If you've ever wished Godspeed You! Black Emperor had more black metal elements, then this is the band and album for you. Respire even adds touches of screamo here a genre we typically have little interest in to give this record quite an original style. There's some real good stuff here. Patreon: ww...
Every Album Ever | Episode 202: Flipper
Просмотров 1,3 тыс.Месяц назад
This week we're discussing every album by Flipper. While known to many as a huge influence to bands like Nirvana and the Melvins, Flipper are a punk band unlike any other. They're as amazing as they are terrible, but completely unique and bizarrely innovative. After founding member and bassist/vocalist Will Shatter died in 1987, they've gone through various breakups and reunions, even as far as...
Glossolalia by Dale Crover | Review + Interview
Просмотров 415Месяц назад
This week we're discussing Glossolalia, the latest solo album by Melvins drummer Dale Crover. Not only that, but he was kind enough to do an interview with us talking all about it, as well as tons of other great insights. While known primarily as a drummer, Crover is actually quite the songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. He's also joined by some notable guests on Glossolalia, including Kim Th...
Rack by The Jesus Lizard | Album Review

This week we're discussing Rack, the latest album by The Jesus Lizard and their first in 26 years. None of us saw this album coming and the return of one of the greatest noise rock bands of all-time is a welcome one. Rack shows David Yow, Duane Denison, David Wm. Sims, and Mac McNeilly returning to their roots, as well as venturing into fairly uncharted musical territory. We were not disappoint...
Every Album Ever | Episode 201: Dazzling Killmen

This week we're discussing every album by Dazzling Killmen. While they were peers of bands like Scratch Acid and the Jesus Lizard, and worked with Steve Albini numerous times, the Killmen were impossible to compare. Equal parts noise rock, punk, and math rock, their music is ferocious, complex, and unmeasurably tight. If you're into noisy aggressive music at all, you simply must hear them. They...

This week we're discussing every album by Metallica from 1983 to 1988. That's right, all the thrash albums. This era highlights not only some of their most ferocious and technical material (and let's face it, BEST albums), but also their time with legendary bassist Cliff Burton before his tragic death. Everyone and their mom has heard these albums, but now it's time to hear them again. Intro/Ba...

Lost Themes IV by John Carpenter | Album Review

This week we're discussing Lost Themes IV: Noir, the latest album by legendary movie director John Carpenter. Collaborating with his son, Cody Carpenter and his godson, Daniel Davies, this is Carpenter's fourth album and it's a ton of fun. Like previous Lost Themes albums, there are a ton of synths, 80s rock guitars, and driving electronic rhythms. Is it reinventing the wheel? Definitely not. B...

Tarantula Heart by Melvins | Album Review Buzz Osborne Interview!
Thanks guys, that was a really fun watch. 😂 (new subscriber!).. I'm a big fan, have been since the early 80's. I got to see them a handful of times during the late 80's and 90's and to answer the question, that's why I'm such a fan because every time they rolled into the UK it was the best night out ever! They were such a fun band and I miss them so much, my life is more boring and far less exciting knowing I'll never experience seeing them again. It is a bit of a patchy discography to listen through I will admit. I think a lot of the albums suffer for different reasons. 'Off The Bone' was the first record I owned and probably still the one I listen to most, it sounded completely wild in 1983 to a 13 year old me because I hadn't heard all those 60's garage rock bands and obscure 50's rock and roll records that inspired them. My sister was listening to Duran Duran, I was listening to 'Human Fly' 😁
how about Cop Shoot Cop?
I watched Cunning Stunts almost daily when I was 12 years old. Also saw them on the Load tour and learned all the songs. But I NEVER go back to listen to this period of the band…..ever.
Beyond the fact that the blood brothers are objectively a sick band, these guys sound like 8 years old whining and complaining about them for 1+ hour. Wtf? Such a waste of time tbh
Garage ink best 90s metallica of the 90s!
Hi... Thanks for your episode. Congratulations on episode 200!!! i do listen to your podcast a lot (as i enjoy a lot of the same bands). Metallica's one of my favorite ever bands, and i am actually one of the few folks who consider St. Anger to be one of the top 10 greatest albums of all time (so much that i did a six hour documentary on it)... i also love 72 Seasons (as i love all of their albums, including Lulu), but i understand why some people may not like these albums. Everyone has their preferences. i'm responding here more to say, some of the songs you've said they don't play, they actually have been playing more regularly, in recent times. They've alternated between both 'Ktulu' and 'Orion' every night on the first leg of the M72 tour. There are times they've busted out 'Leper Messiah', 'Trapped Under Ice' and 'Hit The Lights', which they also played at the 30th and 40th anniversary shows. They've done the full version of 'To Live Is To Die' once, at the 30th anniversary show. They've done 'Suicide & Redemption' a few times as well. In terms of 'Frayed Ends', one of the most notable times they did it (after the Justice tour) was on May 28, 2014, which i think was on one of the 'All Request' tours. That was one of the songs Rob really wanted to do with them, so we have him to thank for that!!! i think with 'Eye of The Beholder', Lars has publicly said he did not like the song, despite everyone else loving it. Same with 'Escape'. Also, Lars is my biggest musical inspiration, so your giving him props made me smile. For me, i think what makes the band work is because they haven't restricted themselves to metal. That said, the best artists aren't restricted in terms of influences to the genre they play in. i look forward to listening to part 2 (even though i know i'll disagree with a lot of it, hee hee...) i've also seen Metallica 18 times (my first time being in December of 1991)- so i am kind of biased... but Mike, i think you should go see them! it is a fun time. As a punk/hardcore kid, i also prefer smaller shows, but i love the band (and they are one of the best live bands for me). That said, i go mostly because there's so many people i have built community with who also go. it's really more about that than anything else. It's like a family reunion of sorts. Be well...
I’m surprised you guys didn’t touch upon the _slap-bass_ break on “Cure”
The influence of Danzig on The Black Album is rarely discussed, but I believe it’s significantly underrated.
Reload easily worst, interestingly Load would be my best personal favorite.
Fuckin A.
You should do a loose ends on Lulu and get Robert to join in
Unfortunately, I heard the Kid Rock song before the Metallica original. Now I can only hear Kid Rock when Metallica plays that song. It's sad, but true. At what point did Metallica decide that every album needed to be over 75 minutes long? I get that the arrival of CDs gave them more room to work with, but they went from tight 50-minute classics to bloated 80-minute endurance tests.
I remember reading the guy from Q Prime saying that they have their bands make long albums.
"Sex Bomb is the punk rock Smoke on the Water". -King Buzzo
Also, Bob Rock's kid did the Now I lay me down to sleep part on Enter Sandman.
2+ hours for ep. 2? Uh boy. You guys deserve a medal (pun intended).
A _medallica_ (sorry).

the guy that screams "YOU'RE A FUCKING A-DULT!!" at the end of Ever (Live) on the 'Sex Bomb Baby' comp is actually Flipper's guitarist Ted Falconi lol. apparently some kids were on stage fucking with his gear. i read an interview with Steve DePace the other day where he talks about it, will send it to you guys if you wanna check it out
Wrong is probably my second favorite. [shrug] My first is Why Do They Call Me Mr. Happy? It's my go-to sanity album. Not the first I heard, either. It just got me.
There's a couple other Cardiacs connections: Tim Smith co-produced Borland's last (non-posthumous) album in 1997; and back in 1976 Tim Smith performed live for the first time alongside Borland.
Tom, Alex and Mike - Thanks a lot for taking the time to put this together. - Mark
It's our pleasure, thank you.
Eugene: "If you come in that door before I've finished, I can't be responsible for what happens to you." I've said that same exact thing, only I was in my bedroom.
Wow. I had no idea about oxbow breaking up. So big thanks for putting me on to Bunuel
Young Machetes is return to form. Actually is kick ass record. Produced by Guy Picciotto from Fugazi. Man this record is really amazing.
By the time Crimes came out I was out. I actually just recently started listening to it. There’s some good tracks.
Burn, Piano Island Burn is when they got super popular and started selling at the mall in Hot Topic.
March On Electric Children is not Epitaph. It was sold to Epitaph from 31G records which is the legendary Justin Pearson from The Locust.
This Adultery Is Ripe makes so much more sense at the time it came out because there was nothing like it at the time.
I love that you covered their EP. Devon Welch is such is amazing guitarist. He played in other BB side projects like The Vogue and Soiled Doves. He also played with Jordan, Morgan and Mark in Past Lives which was post BB.
The drums in Friendship Village is the reason I fucking love that song.
Desert kisses is so good!
Crazy yall made fun of how they looked for the reunion in 2014. now they are touring at 43 year olds and so jacked and in shape.
we're 5 seconds in and he got the title of "Marian" wrong... fuuuuuhhh....
One last wish was ROS. Just as amazing.
The Sisters' lyrics are never only the words. For Black Planet, "And I ride down the Highway 101 / by the side of the ocean, headed for sunset"... Highway 101 is on the edge of the west coast US; if you're headed for sunset (west), what's there? China and Japan. A bit prophetic? Sisters lyrics should (almost) never be taken at face value. The Sisterhood material was released under that name to prevent Wayne Hussey & Co from continuing to tour as The Sisterhood, which they had been doing. Also, if somehow you find yourself looking for a more spaghetti-western-goth sound, you should check out Fields of the Nephilim's album Dawnrazor...
My comment was deleted?
I've never deleted a comment, so I can promise it's not on our end.
@@EveryAlbumEver Thanks! What I said was that I was surprised you didn't like 'More', as it feels like a hangover from the previous album. Also, there are a few more songs you should check out: Afterhours (Morricone-esque b-side of single Body & Soul), Good Things (the only recording is from a John Peel session), and the 1992 remake of Temple of Love (slicker, heavier, with wailing female vox). Afterhours - ruclips.net/video/bq7Yu5WIKao/видео.html Good Things - ruclips.net/video/9VR4yhGPOJw/видео.html Temple of Love '92 - ruclips.net/video/xi7lOB4PndY/видео.html

@@LokiTricksterG I'm aware of this, and my original comment was clean and link-free!
@@ThreadBomb I've had a lot of inoffensive comments get deleted by RUclips over the years and have no idea why. There doesn't seem to be much logic or consistency in how YT does things.
Good episode, I completely disagree with your take on Vision Thing though.
25:39 If you like their cover of Gimme Shelter, then you'd love their cover of Dolly Parton's 'Jolene'. Oh, and when you do an episode on Fields of the Nephilim, please be sure to include their cover of the Roxy Music song, ‘In Every Dream Home a Heartache’, which is on the B-side to the Blue Water 12”.
Nurse With Wound 30 min remix of "This Corrosion" exists
Lord have mercy.
For Goth Western music, look no further than Fields of the Nephilim! They nailed it on Preacher Man.
You have to realize how steeped in irony Vision Thing is, even Floodland carries a bit of that as well, and it becomes a bit more enjoyable. It's like he's deliberately trying to make you not take it too much at face value by giving you something that's unexpectedly too direct and straightforward. Not saying it really worked or it greatly deepens the listening experience but from there on I think the guy was just far too self absorbed to want to make anything that came off as too accessible to his own fan base, by, again, ironically making something that seemed to try to be extremely accessible in its own strange way. Eldritch is a really clever guy, so it's worth analyzing it this way to some degree, so thought I'd just drop my 2 cents on that. It's fun to think about it at least!
48:36 The racist dog is actually Seth from Big Black's Bulldozer EP, on the contrary, Knuckles the dog is a very good dog.
Yes! I remembered it was "Seth" while editing the episode and promptly kicked my own ass.
Next year do skinny puppy!
A great read on The Sisters is the book, 'Paint My Name in Black and Gold: The Rise of the Sisters of Mercy' (2021) by Mark Andrews. It covers the early years of the band, including their indulgence in Amphetamines and their hardcore fans, known as The God Squad. Eldritch's interviews with British music mags, like NME and Melody Maker, were always highly entertaining. He's one of the smartest dudes to have ever graced the halls of rock/independent music. P.S, I hope you cover Fields of the Nephilim one day (funny that you should mention Ennio Moriconne when talking of The Sisters. Wait till you listen to the Nephilim's first album).
58:57 Alex points up the flaw in ‘This Corrosion’ 😅
More and more zany stuff can include: the sax solo, a piano solo, another guitar solo (maybe Yngwie style shred). And it should end like Prince's 1999, with the end just the beat and minimal instruments.
Lol I Love 'This Corrosion', but god the official versions are too damn long. Then again, that's the same issue I have with the 1992 version of Temple of Love and a couple of their other songs.
I first heard them when "Never Land" was played on an episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I always found it funny they named themselves after a Leonard Cohen song despite sounding absolutely nothing like him, although I think that was done intentionally as a joke. First and Last and Always is my favorite. It's the most consistent, with the tightest songwriting and catchiest tracks. I do like Floodlands as well, but there are moments when it felt like Eldritch should've had other people there to reel him in.
I'm surprised you did not like More that much; I think it's OK Sisters pop/goth song. Its only dated way more than other and on down spiral of that terrible last album. It's also produced by same Meatloaf dude from This Corrosion. About that song, like it or not it's one of genre defining songs, you might call it THE Goth song. And it's a diss track...apparently. That song is like Song 2 from Blur in the 90s - a deliberate ironic mockery of a genre sound. And in spite of itself its awesome. There are a lot of country covers of This Corrosion. Lyrics are also intentional gibberish, and Andrew is well known as one of better lyricist among musicians. A lot of Sisters songs have really good lyrics...for pop/rock music standards. About what happened with that last album...After 85 split Andrew became the band, gave all he got in Foodland and after it was creatively spent. Too much drugs and booze, I guess. Thats the main reason he refuses to put another album for 34y, he has nothing more to give. There is maybe enough new content for one good album in 3 decades of touring and most of those songs were not even written by him but other band members (Slept, Summer, Suzanne, Romeo down...) As you said in 2 albums he defined sound of a genre for 2 decades, but I guess that was all he got. As closing of Sisters as a working band I always see 1992 Under the gun, a rock ballade duo he did with Terri Nun from Berlin. You might not like that same as More but even that was actually not his song but some cringe stupid soap opera opening theme he distorted into something different.
I agree, it's surprising they didn't like 'More', which sounds like a hangover from the previous album.
You gotta give it to them, they are just such great podcast presenters engaging with great musical insights
Far too kind, thank you. 🙏
Great choice of topic :)

Amen!
Can't believe I've neglected 45 Grave since I was a teenager. Yet I can still recite the song "Evil" despite having not heard it for 18 years or so. That would be a great episode.
@EveryAlbumEver Hell yeah! And a short one.
