Karen and I rather enjoyed this lovely stroll along the River Exe, seeing the sights and hearing the birds that come to winter in and pass through Dawlish Warren. I miss being in a place with so few people every day after so many years in the Santa Barbara area. Great job, Shaun & Nina! ♪♫♪
Thanks Joseph. It is a lovely spot. A bit of a hidden secret in this area.
@@shaungeraghtytravel We Yanks had to look up the definition of a "kiss-me-quick", discounting that it referred to a mid-19th-century bonnet with tie strings, Elvis' hit song, or that it had to do with Chaldean numerology. So we settled on the term's relevance to cheap seaside towns, in general. Loved the various shells Nina found and shared, too! 😊
Walked it last year from Lanzarote Princess, was a beautiful walk, took a couple of hours but well worth it for a cocktail and lunch at the bar overlooking Papagayo beach!
I didn't make it to the farthest beach but will definitely do it next time
Another great video, thank you. Between yours and @Aquaholics sightseeing videos around Devon, it making it a very desirable place to live. Keep up the good work!
Cheers Mike!
Lovely. I remember it well. The wildlife area most of all.
Is it Rufus the Robin ? 😄, very good and informative video and thanks for sharing Shaun 👍
Haha. Rufus is Bills friend at Sprey Point. This one could be his cousin Rupert though 🤣
TORQUAY IS GREAT IF IT IS A HOT SUMMER'S DAY, OTHERWISE IT IS A MISERABLE PLACE! THE LAST TIME WE WERE THERE WAS IN SEPTEMBER, 2023 WHEN I WENT TO THE PRINCESS THEATRE TO SEE SCOTTISH COMEDIAN FRANKIE BOYLE. WE HAD BEEN TO PLYMOUTH FOR A FEW DAYS, AND IT HAS A LOT MORE TO DO THERE, INCLUDING GREAT RESTAURANTS! PIER POINT FISH & CHIPS WERE NICE BUT PORTIONS WERE VERY SMALL FOR A LARGE!!!
Thanks for your comment. Sorry you weren't happy with your meal at Pier Point. We had a meal there recently which was superb. As you can see, Torquay was far from miserable on Christmas Eve. Hope otherwise you enjoyed your visit to Devon.
I’ve been ther before but I’m also going in 4 months
I want to come and see your radio
Karen and I loved this episode and look into the Shaldon 3-legged race and all the great costumes and local folk. We've added the Teignmouth Salty Cottage Cam from your last video to our look-see folder and found another webcam from the Shaldon side as well. Love seeing the local traditions play out in your vids and thank you for providing them. Onward to your most recent episode in Dawlish in a bit. ♪♫♪
Thanks Joseph. Before we moved here we used to sit and watch the Salty Cottage webcam - sometimes you can even hear people's conversations as they pass by.
@@shaungeraghtytravel I did notice there is sound with the cam view, not usually provided on most webcams. Love listening to the sounds of the rivermouth and the boats and trains going by.
Greetings and Happy New Year to you, Shaun & Nina! Finally watched your Xmas Day wander after some rather busy holiday daze that kept our calendar slightly unsynced as Karen will no longer allow me to watch your episodes alone without her as we both find your sojourns and local peeks of great mutual interest. So, after a late night of playing and singing live music with food & fireside friends to ring in the New Year, we awakened to watch your offering on this day from a week ago. My immediate thought on why they call the river mist a Larry is because Shemp, Curly, & Moe were already taken. Ha! We're in 70-degree F weather here in SoCal as we have most of the week given we're in more southerly latitudes. Thank you for a lovely look at Teignmouth on such a lovely day. Keep up the great work! ♪♫♪
Thanks Joseph. And a very happy new year to you and Karen. Thanks so much for your supportive comments, very much appreciated!
What a nice place to go for a walk! Thanks for sharing it!

What a really nice video. Great wheather☀🌤
That was s great fun! Thanks for the invite! 😄
Cheers Colin!
We greatly enjoyed watching this episode with a friend yesterday as we prepared Xmas dinner. That Meadfoot Cafe got me some travelogue points as I correctly guessed where you were headed. Ha! Hope you had a lovely day yesterday! Now to watch the other two new vids. ♪♫♪
What lovely weather! It has been very grey here up North!
Cheers Colin. Boxing Day hasnt been quite as nice. Video to follow.
Merry Christmas Shaun and Nina. Lovely stroll around Torquay and what fantastic weather 😊
Thanks Tracey. Hope you're having a good Christmas x
Merry Christmas
Merry Christmas Ivan!
Thanks for this video, made it even more special as it was the choir I sing in, Tale Valley Choir, just loved hearing us.
Aww thanks Lesley. The choir sounded amazing and what a beautiful location to sing in too!
We enjoyed this episode greatly, Shaun. Fascinating place and that church is amazing. I rightly guessed the three towers, too! Cheers! (And thanks for the traincar shoutout on Castle Drogo! Looking forward to that upcoming episode).
Poo Bingo!!!!
As I finally got around to watching this next episode in your travels after a lovely weekend live music East San Fernando Valley sessionfest with friends where I found myself roosted on the drum kit most of the evening, something I've not done in well over a decade or two, I'm stopping at the 5-minute mark so I can watch with Karen and share the grounds and the day in your historic part of the world. Thanks for the kind shout-out on Castle Drogo and I'll likely leave another comment after watching the episode. She's working in her office, so it will be a bit, so back to the ♪♫♪ for now. I still gotta catch up on The Prog Mill podcast from this past Sunday!
Thanks Joseph. I love your encouraging comments. Your support is really appreciated
@@shaungeraghtytravel We enjoyed your visit to Killerton House greatly. Your mention of the other National Trust estates has us rightly intrigued, as well. We've not run across a travel show that focusing on these sites alone in our many forays via television to these historic places. (BTW: Last Sunday's Prog Mill was outstanding and sent me down another proggy rabbit hole to emerge with new bands to add to my favorites list. Thank you for adding to my library!) ♪♫♪
This is fabulous!
Great video Shaun! 🎄
Cheers Brendan!
An excellent and enjoyable foray into a small village festival. And those tapas and pintxos, outstanding! Fine Spanish wine and good music. Brava, Shaun & Nina! ♪♫♪ (Got my gal, Karen, to subscribe, too!)
Fantastic thanks Joseph!
Part of my family live in budleigh, haven’t been for years but always a fond part of my life
Its certainly a lovely part of the world
What a great location for filming the surfaces of other planets! A bit windy though! Thanks for the tour. I have never been to the Canaries.
Volcanico magnifico! Coaches should be compulsory, but then there'd be some folks out of motorcar business. Lots of people, surprisingly. A stunning severe landscape keeping in mind you're on islands. Enjoyed that muchly. 🙂
The house at 9 minutes 33 seconds nick Burnham of youtube Aquaholic did a tour of it
Aah thanks, I'll take a look!
@shaungeraghtytravel aquaholic incredible £1.6 million waterside house tour
Another nice stroll through a place I'd never heard of or seen. Thanks for sharing your sojourns with us uncommonly commonfolk. (Now I want tapas and an array of subtropical drinks, please).
Thanks Joseph!
According to my follow-along map, that first beach is called Playa de la Mujeres (Women's Beach), followed by Playa de la Cera (Wax Beach), and finally Playa de Papagayo (Parrot Beach). Had you gone a bit further there are two small restaurants overlooking the beach. The photos show grilled fish and ice cold drinks of varying types. Thanks for another good venture into lands I've never seen, Shaun & Nina, and we'll come along again on your next adventure. 🏖🌍
Thanks Joseph. Most people who got to the third beach went by car, but if I'm there on a slightly cooler day I'll definitely walk all the way. Cheers!
Think I even saw you somewhere recognised that hat
Haha I guess there arent many hats like that around Torbay. Thanks John
Just got back from Brixham found it bit built up compared to were i normally go in north Devon loved Dartmouth and back pool sands but thanks for showing all the places I missed also loved babbercome
I followed your travels via your photos earlier in the year, so these short clips were lovely to see. My heart yearns for the time I spent there, twice, once on business, once for Fasnacht and romance. As you panned right from the top of Mt. Pilatus, the pointy peak across the Vierwaldstattersee (Lake of the Four Cantons), Rigi is clearly visible, which was featured in the previous clip. Glad I clicked on this as I thought I had already seen it. Ha!
Another fine walkabout in your local environs. Much enjoyed following along on the map, seeing where and how things lie and play out. Spent some time trying to find the name of the other little rock isle east of Thatcher Rock and could not find it identified on any of a few different maps. Had I waited in the video a bit longer, my search would have been rewarded with the name Oarstone. A lovely day to remember on Remembrance Day. ♪♫♪
Thanks for sharing your favourite places, Shaun and Nina! Such a lovely place!
👍👍👍
Dreek? Dreake? Great word, that. Dreary + freak, reek, meek, weak, creak? Did I spy the long iron tongue of a scythe fixed to the wrought iron, its handle standing beside it to the right just as you walked in through the stone arch? And are you north or south of Luscombe Hill? My guesses are just north between Colley and Greenway lanes, or just south where my map indicates "Dawlish Water". As a former guide in the mountains above Santa Barbara and areas therewith, if I ventured into places I'd never been, I carried a small sack of little push-pin flag markers to follow back out from a confusing wanderway, picking them up on the way out. Of course bones or breadcrumbs work well, too. Strange place and a horrorful tale. Surely someone has made a film or written a story about it, no? Thanks for another sojourn into Dawlishisly moorish places not far from home. ♪♫♪ (Note: Sorry for the long comment, but I found where it is along with Lidwell Farm in subsequent querying).
Dreich. Its a Scottish word meaning the weather is grey, overcast and dull. Sometimes it just fits perfectly. Yes the Lidwell Chapel is just to to the west of Luscombe Castle and Hill. When we look down the valley towards the farm, that's the hill on the left. The stream which emerges from the ground alongside the Chapel runs down the valley and eventually joins Dawlish Water until they reach the sea.
@@shaungeraghtytravel Thanks for the etymological on "dreich". A perfectly drear-encompassing word, indeed! I see the whole of Little Haldon on the map so thanks for the orientation. Sometimes the online pushpins don't align perfectly. :-)
When I saw the timestamp on the travelogue, I kinda surmised you weren't walking it, at least not without the jetpacks on. Very much enjoyed this jaunt with you and the lovely Nina as co-narrator. Calling out the stops was appreciated as I like to follow along on the map, town to village, looking for various all mentioned landmarks and rivers (Little Dart took a bit of time, but I found it and the Mole River). Did I have a three-tiered deja vu in the panniers market? And even some Herman's Hermits from the busker. (Peter Noone lives in my old home town of Santa Barbara and I've run into him many times over the years at the most improbable places. He's always spotting me first and waves hello, comes round, and for some reason he thinks he knows me from perhaps in the creative world circles, always friendly, and we share a few moments and he's off. Still looks 16 years old. Ha!) Anyway, Shaun, love these merry jaunts to places I've never seen so close up. Thanks for producing & posting! ♪♫♪
How fantastic that you followed our journey on a map. And what a coincidence that you know Peter Noone personally. I wonder if he would have liked the Barnstaple Busker's version of 'I'm into Something Good' LOL. Thanks Joseph very much appreciated!
@@shaungeraghtytravel I love maps and seeing the lay of the land. Village names and their histories intrigue me and as we've watched all of Penelope Keith's "Village Of The Year" shows as well as numerous other UK travel shows. She visited Porlock on the North Devon Coast, as well. Lastly, I think Peter would indeed love anyone covering his old songs. If I ever run into him again, I'll be sure to tell him of your timely Barnstaple encounter. ♪♫♪
