Movie link?
Litterally just read and watched part 1 for the first time TODAY! I have to admit that the book is way better than the movie, and it’s my first time actually reading a book for fun rather than a project, so that says something. Although the movie is good in its own right
Compare it too the new french film!!
Book without doubt is the best of all the movies. For me the 1950s version is best. It is very British brought the idea of Gas attacks which happened in WW1.
Read an early 6 books version, with book 3 missing, went at last online to find that book, I can't read that style anymore.
Glad you liked the book better-it's such great read. There is a Carrie 2 ('The Rage'), a film sequel and there's a remake of the original, with Chloe Grace Moretz playing 'Carrie', but they're both a bit 'Meh' !! x
The book is my all time favorite novel! In my opinion, the movie is the best adaptation, as it comes closest to capturing the spirit of the book, even if it isn’t a perfect representation of the actual text.
Well, It's not the same. It's very different, with lots of plot adds. I didn't hate it though.
Truly, one of the worst books I’ve ever read.
Great video, I did enjoy the first two movies (never saw BotFA) but didn't care for the ammount of changes they made especially in the second. I will admit I enjoyed how explored the mystery of the necromancer storyline and Radagast was funny. Out of curiosity, what are your thoughts on Guillermo Del Toro's plans for the Hobbit?
Both the novel and the movie are disorienting. King's main two gripes are: 1. In the movie, Wendy is a scream queen but hardly a final girl; 2. In the book, Jack is a layered character. I wouldn't necessarily call him good but he has redeeming qualities. The movie fucks these characters up. Stephen King writes character studies, not slutty thrillers. And Kubrick fucked up the two main characters. That's the primary issue. The film itself follows similar beats to the novel... except for the ending. But it's really Kubrick's mucking up of the characters that sticks in King's crawl.
Fun comparison! I agree about the tempo of the book kicking in at the third act. PD James’s religiosity kinda put me off, but that’s an exception in regards to her entire library. I totally agree about the direction, editing and cinematography (I’m a giant fanboy of DP Lubezki). What struck me about reading the novel after maybe 30+ viewings of the film is that I ultimately think that overall it’s a story of one man’s spiritual redemption. In the book, Theo literally arrives at a Christian dogma - in the film, more of a humanist ethos of love and service (closer to where Frankl landed in “Man’s search for meaning”). I’ll take the film over the book, because I’m more interested in exploring contemporary dystopian themes that mirror our current collective experiences than anything that even smells like a religious version of “hope” (that’s just me😊). Good vid man! Thx a ton for making it and providing this forum. 👏🏻👏🏻
Watched the movie in theaters and loved it. I've seen it a dozen times since then, and I've had the book for 8-9 years and never read it. So I've been on a huge reading binge lately and started it christmas eve and just finished it Jan 5. I was just left upset and empty. The last chapter not even being about glass REALLY upset me, it shouldve filled the 2 week gap after the trial and the next chapter, not as the finale of the book. And the completely empty ending for glass and every reader. I understood a big part if it was getting his anstadt rifle back, but the brutal revenge on Fitzgerald was what everyone wanted and expected, real or not. Kiowa throwing a line about loose ends just made it worse
Miller's Crossing, then Fargo.
In the book, Moss could have killed Chigurh. He had him dead to rights in the motel room. If Moss wasn't such a massive constant F-up, he could have taken the money and never been found. He took Chigurh's silenced shotgun from him, for F's sake!
Bro this is so relatable
One of my favorites. Most of us have a Allie and Noah in our family. It was wonderful.
In the book Alex and his droogs wear black outfits.
If your interested in 2 new very good adaptation the you should chech out the 2024 frensh movie adaptation or the 2024 frensh/Italian tv series. I found the movie to be a lot more fateful to the source material than the 2002 adaptation even though they slso took a lot of liberty with it. The TV series on the other hand its really, really good if you're looking for a more faithful adaptation to the source material in fact I found it to be on par with the 1998 Gérard Depardieu frensh mini series witch is one of my favorite adaptations even with the original characters they introduced. The only thing I didn't like that much in the series was that they race swap 2 or 3 of the characters but it wasn't that big of a deal.
The 2024 film is a cheap drama. Alexandre de La Patellière's mediocre adaptation is not on the same level as the adaptation of the 1979 miniseries directed by his father, Denys de La Patellière. This miniseries is completely faithful to the book and superior to the weak 2024 film. If they don't want to be faithful to the original material, they should do something well. If they want to change Edmond's story, they should make him look like the relentless Octavian from the Rome series. Edmond should show no remorse for his revenge, just as Octavian showed no remorse for his revenge against Mark Antony who had beaten him. And he should punish Haydee for disobeying him, just as Octavian punished his mother and sister for doing so. The film seems to abuse the convenience of a protagonist who doesn't have the courage to be brutal enough like Octavian was. Abusing the protagonist at convenient moments shows compassion, which in practice no one would show, except for some benefit.
@@davidhume6294 Then checked out the 2024 tv series instead. It is superior to the 2024 movie and a lot more faithful to the book too. I have never seen the 1979 mini series so I can't compare it but from what you're saying I will definitely watch it now alongside the other older adaptations. The only other adaptation I have watched is the 1998 Gérard Depardieu miniseries and I love that one even though he was a little bit too old for the role in my opinion, they added an original character that wasn't in the book and changed the ending but other than that I found it to be very faithful too.
@@ricky865 The final episode of Count leaving with Haydee and leaving a farewell letter to Maxmilien and Valetine. ruclips.net/video/v-6djyNU-CE/видео.html
I like McCarthy's writing style cause he doesn't extend the book the same way I do an essay for school. Like he just gets straight to the point, unlike other books where they will spend a whole paragraph talking about some shower thought a character is thinking of.
Prince of thieves. Is Kevin Coster minute tights? Is carrie owens
The movie is the height of what's achievable in the medium. You can't really say that about the book. It's great, but it's not the height of what's achievable in its medium.
@@bsharp3281 that’s an excellent point
Yesss! Finally a video discussing these books!
I think human beings read into all the minutia and not embrace the fact that this literary masterpiece has been rediscovered over time in a different manifestation. That being said, I personally enjoyed both novels and with an open minded approach embraced “what if”. Lee’s first transcript was rejected by the publisher for whatever reason at the time. Lo and behold Watchman reappears decades later, a great thing. We read to learn and escape, that is really what it’s all about.
I will forever love this movie. IDC
North Koreans have been living like 1984 for a very long time . .
I always preferred t1, even as a 4 year old lol. I liked and watched t2, but would actively seek out t1 from anybody who might have it. I, personally, love long movies if theyre doing a good job. T2 felt slow and boring in some areas whereas t1 was always engaging, even to a little 4 year old.
Thank you for the movie. Quite a surprise there is a book
You should try Jose Saramago.
Yikes, that was an awful take. A truly awful take…
@@ITouchdownThere thanks!
Yep. I am pretty immune to f'ed up. But this got to me. Especially because the attitudes depicted seem to be becoming more acceptable to many Americans. Trump is mentioned many times as a role model for these guys.
“Who Goes There?” Was also loosely adapted in 1972 as “Horror Express” with Christopher Lee. No masterpiece for sure, but good schlocky fun. Lee finds a creature in the ice in China, and decides to take it home to England on the Transiberian Express for study. Of course, it thaws and gets out and starts killing people on the train. It doesn’t shapeshift, but it can jump from body to body, retaining the memories of its victims. There are various scientists on board, and it seeks to suck out their knowledge and eventually escape in one of its possessed hosts to build a ship to escape Earth.
Guys the hobbit is not that bad. Sure it deviates A LOT from the book, but honestly I was expecting that anyway. I wanted to applause that characters that has returned has age well and took the source material WAAYYY better than the TV show. Who complains this movie are the hardcore fans of the book. So as a movie, it's Really really good. One of the few big blockbuster films that gave some sh*t before things went woke.
Gosling is Britain in the notebook
I never knew scarface 1984 was a remake 😮 learn something new everyday 🤔
Come back bro! And Merry Christmas!
I agree the book made me extremely angry. I borrowed it from a friend, when I returned it he said "Told you it'd piss you off."
I 100% agree with you!, on everything you said👍😎
I didn't see Clockwork until I was in my mid 20's. For years I saw the iconic poster as tye VHS cover in video rental storea but my parents would never let me watch it. I was lucky enough to see it at a single screen art house cinema and I fell in love with it. In fact, that movie was a life changer due to some very dark circumstances in my life at that time. Clockwork was therapy for me. When I read the book afted, I was very shocked with Chapter 21. It didn't ruin the story for me, but I preferred how Kubrick adapted the book for the big screen without that chapter.
In the book, in carrie’s last moments she wants her mother. Killing her mother by slowing her heart was real emotional and the fact that Carrie wanted her mom at the end was heartbreaking to me.
As someone who loves the book, i very much enjoyed the movies. They added every bit from the book, and all the additions i thought were interesting
T2 has too much downtime and comedy that sort of distracts the flow. Also that kid is quite annoying with his shrieking voice and stupid behaviour. I can't stand that he threatens the two guys who tried to save him and uses T-800 as a shield. I wished the kid was 20 year old or something instead and was a total loser, like a book nerd or something. That could have been more interesting.
I see the difference between the movie and the book as the difference between a 2D drawing of an apple and the actual apple. The drawing is excellent and well-detailed, incredibly enjoyable, but ultimately lacks the substance of the original thing.
I like very much this novel and thanks for your opinion on this video
I love and watch both versions of Scarface together in one day when I get the chance. And yes, a lot of people don't realize or even believe that the Al Pacino version from 1983 is a remake either. One more fact about the Al Pacino version of Scarface that needs to be brought up is that it also has a counterpart movie 🎬. And that particular movie 🎬 is Carlito's Way which was released in 1993(ten years after Scarface). And that movie is the second collaboration between Al Pacino and Brian De Palma(director) and there also three "Easter Eggs" from Scarface that are in Carlito's Way as well.
What was the deal with the GIANT WORMS in the movie ?
Movie should have been 145 minutes and R rated
Nice concise breakdown!
I loved this movie but I can absolutely see your point. I think if you never read the book you should absolutely do that first before the movie. The movie is great once you read the book, and while it’s not perfect, I liked it
I should be a better person, but screw these movies. It would be cool if we got a Peter Jackson cut that mashes the "proper parts" into 1 movie. Could be redeemable.
