Mid Summer Work - Getting a Old Flat Top look in Bald Cypress Bonsai
Bald Cypress are some of the coolest tree's, specifically the old flat top ones that have been around for hundred of years. I have tried to achieve that in this tree, way back when I collected it in 2014. It was just a stump then but I kept at it every year. It's finally getting to where I want it and it's a beaut! These guys ,when healthy, just don't stop and are just so cool!

No thorns - but the leaves look like thorns in the bud form

It's heavy but not too bad as Cypress wood is a lot like balsa wood but rot resistant - but it's still stupid heavy and awkward

They kinda grow the same but redwood get much much bigger
How many years old this is? Is it naturally collected from wild?

Great build man! What’s your thoughts on keeping the uprights inside the stand a few mm off of the floor to limit contact and prevent any levelling issues? I see a few builds done that way

Yeah it's been growing very well despite me not giving it the attention it deserves. This next spring I hope to make a custom pot for it.
@@givetanks There are millions of these little beech trees that pop up here in the middle of pine plantations which all get run over when they harvest them. Sometimes I get tempted to "Yamadori them but it seems like a kind of delicate process. But it's probably better than being crushed and killed by a log harvester. Perhaps when I have more space I will look into it
Do it! Best time though is in spring before they leaf out, but if it's to save them then nothing to lose
@@givetanks Next spring I'll find one and see how it goes. There's plenty of nice trees that meet the same fate sadly. I pulled a little oak seedling a few years back and it's going well but not bonsai material yet

I disagree with the GFI outlet. Yes it will help from killing you but if it trips and your not home for hours upon hours your fish will die.
A battery back up will help with that, like a mp10 or 40

That's true but I have little time to do this channel as it is so I just merge the two - plus i'm lazy so you get the best of both worlds. I know it's not what everyone does but I walk to my own drum.

Should be able to hold a lot - the exact weight I'm not sure.
