The Spirit of America, Staten Island Ferry launched 12-18-04 at Marinette Marine
That horn is just so legendary
Awesome 👌
THE EDMUND FITZ!!!!!
It’s not the Fitzgerald this is the ryerson
Well he thought the horn sound like the Fitzgerald well Ryerson use Lesile Tyfon 300 and 425 like the Fitzgerald
0:29 *bang* people laugh Staff: *AIIGHT TIME TO LAUCH THE BOAT*
"Spirit Of America" was not delivered until 9/16/05 and originally intended to enter service on October 25, 2005 (the centennial of the municipal Staten Island ferry service), but delayed to April 4, 2006 due to technical and legal issues. I can't understand the long time from launch to delivery (nine months). The builder plate inside "Spirit Of America" has a 2005 build date (despite completed by 12/18/04 launch).
Nice ride! Is this the standard tire size? The sidewall seems a litle bit tall.
My 14 Year Old Golden Sadie,, She was the Best
I thought that the ferry was going to be sunk
yeap rides are still free ruclips.net/video/YuSd2US0mZI/видео.html
spirit of America is best boat in Staten island ferry fleet right now. but its just me.
The Kennedy is the most reliable and safest (and preferred by crews) in a published article (and is a passenger favorite with the outdoor deck).
I worked at Marinette Marine for 42 years and was involved in more launches than I could count . There is a hole 450 feet long by 80 feet wide and 50 feet deep carved out of the river bottom that the ship launches into .The Menominee River in that area is about 20 feet deep more or less , depending on the levels of the great lakes . I did see a video of a side launch where the ship went upside down .I think it was in Italy .
The ferry in the video that was launched (Spirit Of America) and it's sister ships, Sen. John J. Marchi and the Guy V. Molinari were all made from the scraps they saved from the Twin Towers.
Nope
" why there just a bunch of Teenager ." What's the big idea of putting . A bunch of young teenagers in ERDL jungle suite's . And teaching them to operate sophisticated military equipment . ;-) :'(
Were these the same horns used on the Edmund fitzgerald
@Rhys Keever I've seen a lot of yes and no...tbh..its hard to tell since there is no actual recording of the fitzgerald's horns...but a lot of people are saying that she had a tyfon 300 and 425
This is really neat, but I thought the ferry is really old? :O somebody please correct me on that
Idk Either.I Lived In New York City For 7 Years And I Don't Even Know.My Grandpa Said It Came Out A LONG Time Ago.
I Think That Version Of The Staten Island Ferry Came Out
In 2004
The Spirit of America I'd a brand new ship but it was designed to keep to the traditional look of the previous ferries. It runs along side with 7 other ships that look much like it. The other ships were made any where from the 1960s to the 2000
+DLSea's Watercooler SURE BUT......its free for us.......and not even me..I live at the beach in Calif but would love to be a New Yorker and enjoy this........I am very jealous.
man I could use this to move stuff around on the reservation.
the BESTutility vehicle vehicle ever. Why the Marines discontinued them is way beyond me. They were a total work horse in Viet Nam.
look how long that dudes smoke is at 0:47!
LOL
I had the priviledge of doing outfitting work on all 3 vessels... the corp. I worked for was MSC out of Hood River... it was good work and wonderful experience for the year and a half I was employed with MSC. Keep up the good work America !!!!
Great concept!
Hermoso!
Isn't this a ship of the LCS1 class because if they make fifty ships there will be an lcs50, I thought that there were two classes of lcs 1 and 2 and each ship of the type would be either a 1 or a 2. I may be wrong,
just go to 0:35
@sjtom57 Why do they think charge so much to go over the Verrazano ?? LOL
@KeMoniito She didn't actuly mention the builders, she said "Bless the Men and Women that sail on her", and I am sure many women will sail on it. But I see where your coming from, usually it is said "Bless all who sail in/on her". Plus I am sure that the ship building company employes Women, so they contributed, even if indirectly.
Hard to believe those ferry rides are still free.
Yes I was there a few days ago and it's free rides
So many memories.....all torn down now.
SI chicks are like the SI Ferry because everyone gets a ride.
@BattleWalker572 ,mate who wouldnt want one of these.Be a cool rig for hauling deer/pigs out of the bush
does anyone know if there are people on the ship when it launches? shyt would be crazy when it hit the water
@sackcheck it is broken on name
I thought they break the bottle of Champagne on the front of boats not the rear
Now its Big Apple Two
I can't believe that a little bottle knocks a ship into the water. That person must be like super strong.
ohhhh i get it he tried to break the bottle but failed on his first attempt, ahhh.
That's actually a bad omen for ship launches.
Angelina from Jersey Shore
haha we have one of these just got an m60 and my vietnam uniform and gear pictures look amazing infront of ferns
imagine if as soon as it released it fell the other way :P jk thats terrible and wouldnt happen
oli shh!t i tought it will gonna fail lol
@DFDalton1962 We used to have great active shipbuilding facilities in NYC (e.g., Brooklyn Navy Yard), but we don't really have these things anymore--just repair facilities

daam it floats !!! hehehe
That dog was like: OMG!! WTF!!
0:46 Long cigarette :D
i wish it sank
The Sturgeon Bay city motto: "When in doubt, tear it out". It would have made a nice aquarium for the city. It could have been stocked with fish native to the area, perhaps even a sturgeon, especially since - thanks to the DNR - the one place in the bay that still attracted sturgeon was turned into the Quarterdeck Marina. :(
I used to drive and work on them while I was with 8th Combat Engineers in the Marine Corps (79-89). I 've never seen all-wheel steering
@MADSEEN2009 the company that constructed this vessel is in marinette Wisconsin, on the border between WI and Michigan... not on the Hudson.
