Infinite Wave | Guitar Quartet | Marco Galvani
Here is a score follower video of my guitar quartet 'Infinite Wave', written for Quartet Malamatina in 2023. When putting this piece together I thought about my guitar playing when I was growing up, experimenting with effects pedals and infinite delay/reverb. The beauty of hearing four of the same instrument made me think of this hall of mirrors style sound world that aligns with mysterious repeating figures often heard in minimalist music.
From a visual perspective I thought about the work of Japanese artist Takayuki Yoshida, whose works explore this notion of repetition of gesture. As a result, the small canvases are a patchwork of marks that are similar yet different. This hypnotic eff...

Before Sunrise | Marco Galvani | Piano solo
Просмотров 6056 месяцев назад
Before Sunrise for solo piano, performed by Matthew Schellhorn in 2021. Before Sunrise is a short work for piano solo composed for Matthew Schellhorn. I wanted to evoke the sounds of emerging dawn by creating textures that float in and out of focus and move between foreground and background. Sounds of birds echo around the piano, with varying lengths of sustain and decay creating a flexible and...
The Year's Midnight (SATB Choir and Strings) | Murmurations II | Marco Galvani

The second interlude from my cantata for choir and strings 'The Year's Midnight', written in collaboration with former National Poet of Wales, Gillian Clarke. These interludes are composed to imitate murmurations of starlings that can be seen around the UK, including free notation where all the strings move together in a general shape but with freedom factored in. Conducted by the composer and ...

Sung by SANSARA on their 2019 album The Waiting Sky. Scores can be purchased through Birdsong Publishing, part of Faber Music. Christmas Eve, and twelve of the clock. “Now they are all on their knees,” An elder said as we sat in a flock By the embers in hearthside ease. We pictured the meek mild creatures where They dwelt in their strawy pen, Nor did it occur to one of us there To doubt they we...

Sung by SANSARA on their album The Waiting Sky from 2019. Text: Anne Bronte - Music on Christmas Morning: Music I love-but never strain Could kindle raptures so divine, So grief assuage, so conquer pain, And rouse this pensive heart of mine- As that we hear on Christmas morn, Upon the wintry breezes borne. Though Darkness still her empire keep, And hours must pass, ere morning break; From troub...

Beautiful Piece!❤
Thank you so much!
1:51 where is the g# coming from?
beautiful
Interesting comtemporary pieces... Good job!
In a world where making world history is in its pages, may you make many more and let us say, Amen.
Is this available for purchase?
Hi James the score is available to purchase through Birdsong Music- please get in touch with the team at the following link: www.harrisonparrott.com/birdsong/artists/marco-galvani
I love this piece of music. I compose and like to overlay voices like in "Spem In Alium." So when I saw that your phrases start and end on longer notes I actually listened again on two You Tube tabs. I started the second video on measure two. I think how great two choirs of 8 parts each would sound in a cathedral and it is haunting. Please keep composing !!!
This was beautifully composed! I felt as if I was transported to a different world.
Beautiful
Ive listened to several of Galvani Marco’s octavos and they are all delicious sometimes . Hmmmmmm
❤the last page- n bar 80 fabulous punctuation for Altos and sopranos. Impressive .
The composer obviously knows Parsley!
😮😮😮
this is so beautiful!
LOVELY work Marco!!!
Ever heard of a Finnish guy called Jaakko Mäntyjärvi (b. 1963)...?
This is absolutely gorgeous.
Final alleluias remind me of Hymn to Saint Peter, by Britten
It's strange how the parallel chords don't sound banal, but really interesting and dense. Great and really interesting choir writing! especially outstanding to me are the somewhat heterophonic scales going downward on pages 7 and 8.
Page 77!
It's very interesting how you develop the singing parts from recurring tone cells that define the color of a scene.
So beautiful! I am stunned and in awe! Congratulations to this exceptional composition! Your music is really exciting and has something to tell, it's fresh and new, but so wise and eternal.
It's a very attractive compositional style! Organic, full of sonority, beauty, but not naive, with some spicy dissonances. Seems to have structural consequence. I love the contrapuntally original final cadence very much!
Wow, what a discovery! You have a very unique and original voice as a composer! I love the musical language of this piece! It's both traditionally familiar and otherworldly strange in the same moment. The way you develop single pointillistic gestures and long breaths, how you create atonal sonorities that seem somehow opening to tonal memories... the overall dramaturgical development of intensity, density... that's all very fascinating and stunning! Is there any way to purchase the score so that I could study the music? I'm a composer myself and I'm teaching music theory and composition in Leipzig/Germany. I'd like to discuss this piece with students of mine.
Beautiful!
I am blown away by this piece and also the great choir singing!
very nice piece!
Amazing
This is exceptional. Congrats on a gorgeous work and performance.
One of my favorites from you 🎉 Wonderfully performed.
Thank you so much!
Wow!
What VSTs are you using mate?
Oops, not SSATB but SSATBB, but nevertheless ... great work ! (pity about the added Bass, my little group only has one)
Apologies- most of my choral music I write with larger choirs in mind where we can have split bass parts, but when we did the first performance of this we added in a higher baritone to sing the first bass part which worked out well. I have lots of SATB music on this channel that might work for your ensemble- all the best!
Wow!
Gutes Werk, danke
Gottes Segen
Thank you! Beautiful blend. I'm catching hints of medieval flare and drone within the more modern flow, yet you still end stanzas in a bit of a nod to the renaissance style. (I may be completely way off, as I'm still learning - and I like the parallel fifths here as they are used appropriately to reinforce an underlying chant tone) Regardless, it captures quite a bit of music history in a relatively short piece. As someone else said, fascinating! Going to suggest to our choir director we try this piece out...
Hi! I'm trying to learn and understand more what choral composing takes. I loved this piece, but was curious as to why you have the tenors voiced lower than the baritones? Part of me says at that point the tenor part should just be the baritone line, but composers always have their reasons for things and I'm just starting out and am just curious :) Phenomenal piece though!
Hi Trevor this comes from singing in choirs myself- the second tenor below the first bass interlocks the resonance really nicely in the way that orchestral woodwinds (eg flute clarinet flute clarinet in descending order through a chord) allows for a really pure intonation and means that the tenors are in a lower tessitura while the first basses are higher- as a result the first basses have a more active tone within the chord which then supports the first tenors. Hope that helps and all the best with your composing!
It’s a fascinating piece, but I can’t help but cringe when I hear the parallel fifths…
all modern music as well as contemporary choral harmony contains parallel fifths tho, not really abnormal at all
Each to their own! Hope you enjoyed the piece anyway :)
"Parallel fifths? In _my_ contemporary music?" It's more likely than you think.
Wonderful! Is sheet music available for purchase/download or must an email be sent to Birdsong Music Publishing?
Please write to Birdsong for scores- thank you! Glad you enjoyed the piece! 🎉
Beautiful!
This is wild. I love it.
Congratulations master, not only it is a hauntingly beautiful piece but it also has the spiritual depth of Catholic devotion to most holy Virgin Mary. I’d so love to have this beautiful piece in my choir’s repertoire for next year.
Beautiful! Seems like I'm listening to a double choir piece. Really well written.
This is breathtaking. Is the score available to purchase?
Thank you! Yes you can purchase the score in the faber online shop :)
I saw the title and thought, "oh, poor choice, Durufle's setting is already the final word on this tune." But this is actually lovely and handles the tune excellently! Thank you for this beautiful composition and performance.
Ubi Caritas by Duruflé is beautiful - St John's Cambridge best version I think
Splendida.
Splendid!
nice
Ohh I like this. Nicely written and sung
