My 7 month old son is named Wilder Douglas. ❤ It's a good, strong name, in my opinion. Great video! Thanks for sharing.
I've been watching your videos for a while now. I really like and enjoy them. I love your free spirit attitude. I think you will do well my friend. Keep it up. I will continue to watch them. All the while as I set my bike up to ride to Argentina one day.
Thank you 🙌
Been awhile since I yelled at a screen watching you drink straight from the river. Get a water filter, lmao. You're going to need it, especially as you venture further south. Good luck on the trip! Looking forward to watching it.
👍
If I went on a crazy adventure like this, I'd take my KLR. Excited for the next episode!
I noticed when you first tried to restart after fueling up, you pulled the "choke" lever towards yourself. The KLR actually has an enricher, not a choke, so you are making a flooding situation even worse. When hot, try starting without enriching, though a choke would probably cause similar problems. Having the float needle gunked up is not good, and the filter should help a lot. What sort of gas milage have you been getting, and what are you getting now?
If I had choke engaged while hot, definitely a bad move you are right my friend. Gas mileage improved significantly after this video. 35 to 48mpg
I spent many years on that road, but in a car very 😎
I am so glad you got your KLR running rite. Love your vidios be safe.
Thanks! Glad to be back on the road.
great adventure. I am eager to see future episodes. Peace from Connecticut.
Thank you my friend. Peace.
That guy Mark is a legend!
That’s for sure
Nice! Cool guys you came across helping out another guy in need! Big respects to everyone.
Phil your a nut you have a great time stay on the trail 😮😮😊❤
Be safe I’ll be watching
😊😊😊😊😊
Great , helpful people in the middle of nowhere !!!!! Gotta luv them !!
Indeed!
What a stressful ride. Your learning something about mechanics the hard way.
You have had a great adventure; it's been fun to follow along.
Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it.
When I’m having an issue I’m gonna watch your video !!! You handle the diversity very well !!! Just keep going !!!!
Legend
This was me with my 1995 Chevy C1500 a decade ago, but instead of driving across Alaska, I was just trying to get to work lmao
Need to oil that filter homie, thats what traps the dirt.
Good call. Was debating using engine oil because I didn’t have any filter oil, but decided against it. Picked up some filter oil first chance I had.
@MotherPanAmerica your issue could bee a electrical short under the tank in main harness or under the seat, I've had a issue with 18 under the tank from wires chafing and grounding out.watxhed a guys klr go up in flames from a short under the seat.just something to ponder.
Fellow Texan here. Start of the video i was like no way this guys from Alaska, he sounds like a Texan 😆
Are you from Tulsa?
Yes 🙌
LOL I have lived on the Matanuska river my whole life. I have never seen someone dip a cup in it before. We do have beavers up here just so you know. There is a beaver pond like 2 miles up stream on the Mat and like 300 beaver ponds on Kings river that was 10 feet up stream from your cup not counting the dead salmon. I will drink from small streams never the large ones without filtering. You just played the Alaskan giardia lottery>>you won> >>and the prize is >> not exploding out both ends at the same time in the bathroom for 2 weeks strait. On a hunting trip on Kodiak I watched a guy with my binoculars he was camped about a mile from me. That guy had drank beaver fever water day one of a 2 week trip. Every morning he would crawl to the beach and explode for 30 mins and crawl on all fours back to his tent. I actually checked on him with the binos and every morning for 2 weeks. I fully expected one morning he might not crawl out of his tent. Lets just say i filter my water now :0 5mins can save 2weeks of poohell or death. To be fair he was drinking strait from a beaver pond and I was drinking from a spring.
That’s hilarious. I’ve drank unfiltered water from every river I’ve camped at in Alaska. Last year I spent 8 days on a moose hunt drinking unfiltered water from Willow creek. Was ice cold and tasted so amazing. After the week was up, I met a guy that told me he had gotten giardia from brushing his teeth in the river, not even drinking from it. The beavers were still up river when I was there, too. Maybe I’m immune, or just lucky, who knows.
wet spark splug cap can do what your bike dose some wd 40 can help in those cases
Best bike travel adventure video I've come across. Hard core. No $20K+ bike and accessories, or hard cases worth more than my motorcycle. Camps wherever he finds himself - no upscale hotels. This one is the real deal adventure motorcycling, replete with the trials and tribulations. 👍
Thank you 🙌
You need to oil that air filter or you'll have trouble again soon.
Indeed. I didn’t have any but got some as soon as I could.
KLRs are famous for dirty cars and choke issues. They are easy to work on though. I'm not a mechanic by any means, and I was able to take the carb off and replace the jets with the Eagle Mike kit without any problems. I got the same choke replacement for my KLR you put on, did you use the original "spring end" that was on the OEM cable? If you use the one that came with the new brass piece and not replace it with the OEM piece it can cause issues like your having. The little plunger doesn't stay where it needs to be, because the new spring is "too tight". There is also a little tube that hangs down at the bottom of the bike with a plug on it. That tube is a "drain" for the airbox. If there's any liquid in it, unplug it to get it out and plug up again. Luckily it seems your filter was the problem this time. Did you put filter oil on it before you it back on? You may continue to have problems if you didn't. As far as handwarmers.... ThermaSilk glove liners are awesome, really keep your hands warm and are relatively thin so you can wear them under your regular gloves without issue.......
oil that filter
Might be time to trade bikes.
Nah. Just ensure proper maintenance and having extra parts will do the trick. A dirty air / non oiled air filter etc isn't the KLR's fault :)
I don’t think so. He’s just getting an extended lesson in the glory of carburetors. Should have opted for a newer fuel injected KLR650 in my opinion, but here we are. On the bright side, I imagine every other Alaskan is an amateur small engine mechanic used to working on non-fuel injected stuff.
I love your sense of adventure and ability to deal with break downs calmly and easily. Peace from a rider in Connecticut.
Thank you brother
Ron is an old wise man
Indeed
Can you tell me what motorcycle helmet your wearing I would like to have one.
Helmet: Sedici Duale. I like it a lot & would recommend.
Thank you be safe enjoy watching your videos
Hate to say it, but even in glacial water there can be giardia. Boil or filter.
We gotta get you some waterproof boots playa!
Yes sir! Got any recommendations?
Nice idea, really bad idea to not plan anything out... If you live up there you should know better.
I agree
looking forward to watch this adventure evolve. Peace from a motorcycle enthusiast in Connecticut.
Thank you my friend.
great to see you making videos again. I am a motorcycle enthusiast watching from the comfort of my home in Connecticut. If you ever have the time you should travel to New England. Vermont , Maine, Connecticut, Mass, and Rhode Island have some great roads. The fall is probably the most scenic time of the year. Travel safely , peace.
Thanks for the tip, I’d love to make that ride someday.
Waiting for the next video so I can see if my diagnosis is right.
new video just dropped. What’s your diagnosis?
@@MotherPanAmerica I was suspecting water down in the spark plug socket. Mine did that almost every time I pressure washed it. Either that or a saturated air filter.
I used to have a KLR, loved the bike. Need to travel with an extra Throttle cable, Choke cable, spark plugs, and fuses at a minimum with these bikes (an extra quart of oil or 2 also if you have a 2008). You never know what's going to happen. An extra gallon of gas is always a good idea too especially if you're going where gas stations aren't that plentiful. 300 miles per tank seems a little bit of a stretch though, i got 250 or so at best with my 2013.
Smart move. I got 300 miles/ tank the whole ride up last year. I was also burning oil the whole way up and had to constantly top it off, but it did not burn oil on the way down.. not sure what changed.
Nothing wrong with failure. If you didn’t know what defeat was then you would never know what victory feels like
Wise words. Thanks jacmac
Over the years I adopted the attitude of "get gas when its available". Even if I had only gone 70 or 80 miles, I would go ahead and top it off.
This is certainly an attitude I should consider adopting
Wow, and you didn't think of carrying extra fuel, Why? I mean while traveling on my wing & trailer, I will always carry extra gas, and I get 34 mph with the trailer on. 6.1 gallon tank. I carry 2-1.5 gallon fuel tanks.
Sounds like a cool rig. I haven’t had problems in the past and was just gung ho on getting north… didn’t cross my mind.
Ran out of gas, slept on concrete at an alaskan gasstation, lost your licensplate and your bike broke down.... sonds like an adventure to me my man. It for sure wasnt boring you definitly got something here, keep going!
Thank you!!! Bad happenings sometimes make the best stories.
300 miles if your running 55 mph,at best your low 40s loaded at 70. Im stopping around 140-150 miles religiously.
Yes trust me I was stopping frequently after this happened.. was doing 50mpg the whole ride to Alaska… thought I was in good shape at the time.
@MotherPanAmerica ya something is off as it should have done better then 200 for a full tank.
Welcome back!
Thank you and thanks for watching!!!
I say this with all my sincerity: I have endless respect for people who work in such harmony without saying a single word. Maybe some of you may say, "They always do the same job; why is there any need to talk?" But since these are people who work with the discipline of a philharmonic orchestra, they are all experienced people who are aware of their duties, and it is impossible not to respect the work team who work perfectly as if they were a show team.
Beautifully said.
Thanks for catching some for me, I know you won’t take more than you should because next year you would be out of business. And a multimillion dollar boat to use as scrap.
Enjoyed your series. Thanks hope your adventuring continues. ✌️💚
Glad you enjoyed. Thanks for watching!
Cool video series. I want to ride to Alaska on my '23 before my Parkinson's gets out of control.
That is a wonderful goal. Certainly was worth the ride for me. Thanks for watching!
Good job learning! When in doubt throttle out!
Yes sir!! Thanks
