By the time you pay a machine shop, and buy all those parts you might as well just bought an engine that wasn't cracked and rebuilt that one instead. Not to mention , it's a Model A and it's very forgiving. I have my own valve and seat machine that is as old as I am, and a Lisle 15000 Engine Cylinder Hone (not glazebreaker) and I avoid automotive machine shops like the plague. If something is so far out that I can't fix it' I just find a better core
@@joecummings1260 thanks for your feedback As you have figured out I don’t “rebuild” or “overhaul “ these engines. All I do is clean them up a bit and tinker with them to see if I can get them to run good enough to be considered as a running “core” and maybe even be useful for someone in some way.
@@grandpadansfixit2080 Do you have a Model A? They were great cars, I have a buddy that drives one to work a couple days a week during the warmer months. Climbs a long steep hill on the way to work too. He lives at like 1000 feet, and work is at about 1700, so it works a bit getting him there

Weld stress metal. Next time dont do weld. Drill a hole in the middle of the crack and do a thread on it and put a bolt on it and cut the hed of the bolt flush to the surface of the block and it's not going to leake any more. Take my advice. We do that and it workes very well.

When I was a kid I HAD to help my dad and his friend restore a '27 Ford pickup. Slowly I began to think of it as fun rather than a chore. Over the years the project progressed and I moved away. Eventually the truck became a national show winner. My dad passed and years later his friend offered the truck to me but at the time I had no way to keep it. I often wonder where that piece of our past is now.
@@kirkwilson5905 thanks for sharing your story Good memories of doing stuff with your Fathet!
Hi Dan, thank you for your videos. I just had one completely rebuilt by an 83 year old. I have another old engine that has a good block but the Babbitt has chipped out do you pour your own Babbitt? Or repair it? I’m an old mechanic and would like to do this myself. By the way it did run with the broken Babbitt. It was noisy so I took it apart and all the rod caps were on backwards 😊 I would like to get this running just to put it on engine stand. Thank you, Jack

I enjoy watching your videos, and you've made it clear several times that you aren't a mechanic. In my opinion you do a pretty good job at what you do. It's your hobby, and you enjoy doing it. Keep doing what you're doing, and if someone wants to donate a couple thousand dollars to you, then you can rebuild an engine how they want.
@@65bugnut thanks Good plan!
Keep at it, your doing great; as far as the elitist fellows, who have (perfect) engines, many end up buying burtzs, because the perfect ones, end up with problems, right out of the rebuilders shops.😁
