    Excellent video. I really enjoyed watching that. I've been tying bucktail flys for a couple of years now without much instruction and a lot of trial and error. I will definately be incorporating some of your techniques into my flys. I really like how you taper and blend the hairs with your stacks and get to utilize different length hairs. Thanks for sharing. Cheers

    Why do you choose mono rather than using a stronger thread type? Also…great videos!!

    • @augustonthefly
      @augustonthefly Месяц назад

      Thanks. I use mono because it is the best choice for bucktail. Builds cones the best, bites the best, no cording...threads only need to be super strong when doing things that require it. Like deer hair, belly hair... Bucktail is a completely different material. You don't need to pull hard, just hard enough. Thanks for watching.

    No steelhead anywhere close to me. But, with some modifications this could be a great pattern for northern pike and musky. I tie with Squimpish but haven’t made brushes with it. I will now. Is there any reason I couldn’t use UV resin to coat the head?

    • @augustonthefly

      Absolutely! River pike will love them! And no, no reason at all a flex resin wouldn't be fine. I'd just keep it thin.

    I got a bit lost about using the mono straight. What is the reason for using it?

    • @augustonthefly
      @augustonthefly 7 месяцев назад

      I am not tying an articulated fly. The mono keeps the extended body tail section stiff enough to let the fly walk the dog but limp enough that when the fish eats it it will crumple. This help?

    Just out of curiosity: why use squimpish hair when you can use nayat? I find that material more flexible and durable. But maybe that is because I’m at the source of Bigstreamers nayat and never tried squimpish hair properly in my own tieing. Just trieing to learn because you tie some amazing flies!

    • @augustonthefly
      @augustonthefly 8 месяцев назад

      I do use nayat. I have bigstreamers nayat I use squimpish because I genuinely believe it is the best straight synthetic, the history of this style of tying needs to be shared imo. I am affiliated with them as well being a member of their pro team. I love nayat, I do use it, just haven't been lately. But I will, I promise.
