ALCO C424 on the Adirondack Railroad
Просмотров 800Год назад
A little highlight reel of Adirondack Railroad 2400 (ALCO C424). 2400 was originally built in 1964 for the Green Bay & Western as their 313. After the disolvement of the GB&W, 313 was sold to the Minnesota Commercial Railroad. The Adirondack Railroad bought the 2400 in 2022. ADIX 2400 is the Adirondack Railroad’s second ALCO C424, with the first being ADIX 4243, which was sold to the Delaware-L...

Come along as we travel 55 miles into the heart of the Adirondacks behind ADIX 2400, an ALCO C424 built in 1964 for the Green Bay & Western. After we reached the end of the line in Tupper Lake, the crew picket up a large crowd of passengers, and took them to Sabattis station which is twenty miles south of Tupper Lake. It was a historical day due to the fact that a train has not brought passenge...

Follow along as we chase the Adirondack Scenic Railroad from Utica to Thendara. Once the train reached Thendara, the crew did some switching and dropped ADIX 2400 off, so that it could be the power for the train to Big Moose. We would later catch up with the 2400 during its arrival and departure at Big Moose Station. Videos taken on July 15th, 2023. More videos to come! Locomotives featured: - ...

When emd locomotives start having turbo failures like gets you know something horribly went wrong
Just rode the Lake Shore Limited to NYC recently & passed thru here, very busy place like Sunnyside Yard.
Beautiful scenery and a great video. Thanks !
Super great Video! Thumbs Up!
Awesome catch, definitely oil
Nice caching
Thank you!
Back when 2400 used to work for the Green Bay Western as 313, It also had a small acting role. It was shown in a episode of Rescue 911 striking a pickup truck at a railroad crossing.
Excellent day for a train ride!!!😁😁😁
Governor hunting, sticky layshaft on the fuel rail
How is this possible? The original Acela train operated on the New Haven line, are they opening a new route for the Avelia Liberty train?
no. the two P42DCs up front are rowing it from amtraks facilities in hornell NY to philly PA so that the avelias can do their test runs.
I love that ride in the Adirondack and even more with my hometown builted 3573. In wich year was it ?
This video was filmed in July of 2022

Is poughkeepsie the terminating point of the metro north line, meaning all trains must stop then reverse course?
Yes. Poughkeepsie is the terminating point for Metro-North trains on the Hudson Line. Amtrak continues north of Poughkeepsie
Nicely filmed. I enjoy the closeup shots of specific points of interest. Thats how I film also.
Thank you!
Awesome catch and great video
Great catches and cool video
Great catches and cool video
Thank you!
You're welcome
I realize its an Alco, but the cab on that M420 just doesnt look right. About like the GE style cabs CSX put on its rebuilt SD40. I just dont like it. Can we maybe expect a few excursion using NKP 190?
NKP 190 is expected to make excursions with Steamtown as well as power GVT OCS trains
MLW M-series 4 axle locomotives shared little in common design wise from their older ALCO centuries they were based on. All the four axle M-series locomotive (M420, M424, and the M430 if they built it) had this Canadian safety cab. These cabs would also find their way on BC Rail M630s and on the Bombardier HR412 (successor to the M420/M624) and the Draper-Taper body HR616.
Interesting take on NYC or D&H lightning stripe paint scheme. It fits. A trip would be worth it.
Definitely worth the trip. A great operation with beautiful sights. Highly recommend
Great catches and awesome video
The scenery is outstanding. Another bucket list train ride.
Cool to see myself at: 21:40 26:09 27:08 34:04 Excellent Footage!
Thank you!
Very much enjoyed the video. Lots of different scenery to see over this stretch of trackage btwn Thendara, Carter, Big Moose, Woods Lake, Beaver River, Brandreth, Keepawa, Partlow, Nehasane, Robinwood, Sabattis, Horseshoe Lake, Mt. Arab, Childwold, Piercefield and Tupper Lake. Maybe even another moose will be seen, like on this first run.
Thank you very much Bill. Means a lot. Yes, hopefully you guys will get lucky again and see another moose!
Where was the moose? Didn’t see it
I didn’t get a video of it. Was only able to grab pictures. If you check out the Adirondack Railroad group on Facebook, I posted the pictures of the moose there. Here is the link for the group: facebook.com/groups/1401933460232693/?ref=share_group_link

Shame that they are selling all of their F units to LTEX
Yes, really is sad. Especially sad to see the 1508 leaving. Some of its old Alaskan Railroad yellow paint is starting to bleed through. The locomotives are still on the property in Utica, but are in terrible shape
It is unfortunate that they are losing them however they did their job and now get to enjoy some retirement
@@lp9_videoswhy get rid of the f’s and keep the Alco diesels? Also is the rs3k from 1502 going to return?
❤❤❤
What train will it run on tomorrow?
Not sure
@@lp9_videos Oh

Hello! I’m AcelaRailfan2255 but people tend to call me by my real name “Matt”, anyways I am making a documentary on the Avelia Liberty but I simply do not have enough clips of the train to add into my documentary, so I am asking if it would be okay for me to take one of the Avelia Liberty clips from this video for me to add into my documentary, if you were to agree I would put credits to your channel when the clip was played during my video, anyways I understand if you do not want me to do this, but I am asking to be nice, because a lot of other people would just steal other peoples content but that’s not the type of person I am, anyways let me know what you think! - AcelaRailfan2255.
Yes, as long as there are credits to my channel

Beautiful. I have only been as far as big moose station. It's an amazing trip
What is the difference between the red stripe coaches and the blue stripe coaches?
Red is owned by CDOT. Blue is owned by MNRR.
Great video!
Thank you!

That’s not exactly a blown turbocharger, that’s more or less a deeper problem with the prime mover shitting the bed that’s especially worsened by the governor being shot and the prime mover “hunting” between a higher RPM and a lower RPM
It's sad to see this now. The tracks are now ripped up and gone in Saranac. I'm just hoping they aren't planning on doing this to all the places that offer the railroad.
Yeah that's a crapped out governor not turbo failure. Sounds friggin horrible though.
Nah it is a blown turbo
@@NSandBNSFrailfanProductions just because the engine's smoking doesn't 100% mean it's turbo failure. The constant whining and jumps in RPM (known as hunting) are clearly govenor/throttle issues which as a side effect puts out black smoke from the fuel running rich. I've heard a GP38-2 do something similar on an NS local. Only it sounded like a pissed off horse than a dying cow. It's not long before those internal parts become external parts. I'm no expert though but that's clearly no turbo problem.
It's blowing out a lot of smoke
At around 19:20 minutes, the train will be crossing the river on a Lattice Truss bridge, very commonly used on the GMRC, now a part of the Vermont Rail System.
I vaguely remember the #401 being on the Green Mountain Railroad back then, until they received their first EMD GP9. Now, their only ALCO is their #405, used for tourists attractions, operating between Bellows Falls, VT and the depot at Chester. Until 1983, the GMRC used their ALCO S-4, #305, in Keene, NH, after the Boston and Maine surrendered operations, making tri-weekly runs south on the B&M'S "Ashuelot Branch" to "Dole Junction in southern Hinsdale, NH, then, shoving the trains NW to Brattleboro, VT.
Will visit and take a ride soon! 🚂

I thinks its because how old it is and the maintenance might not be enough
The unit might be old but the parts inside of it aren’t. They get rebuilt all the time and overhauled normally
That poor gp40
Thank you Great Video
Glad you enjoyed it
Sorry, but blown turbos produce pale white smoke. That's an injector gone bad. Great video though 👍
I would hate to blow a turbo. Unless the pay was really good.
No, they don’t unless water is getting into the combustion chambers. Blown turbos can produce black smoke as well.
I LOVE this railroad. Beautiful scerery, VERY friendly crew !!! Every time we are visiting Kingston, we ride the railroad. There is the Best Western right at the PRW and I also enjoy watching the trains pass. Kingston is a hidden treasure. My cousin just bought a house so i have more reason to visit. I hope the PRW will be extended to the reservoir.
