How did they ask this question? I have been a lifetime sportsman license holder for over 20 years. It seems to me many NON FISHING people were contacted. Maybe next time they should mail a survey out to license holders only! This does absolutely nothing to stop WHY we have a declining fishery. This is just more fluff, doing something instead of doing nothing. And, of course it is the recreational fisherman who has to change......again! It's politics, and politics do nothing to help our fishery, politics only brings in corruption.

There are many, used to be, commercial fishing guys on shrimp trawls that will testify to the thousands of pounds of juvenile fin fish that are killed every year from trawling in the nursery waters on our coast. I want these guys to catch shrimp, because I love 'em, but they have got to stay out of the nursery waters!!!

Bill- You compared the CCA national lobbyist number to only the NC Fisheries Association in-state lobbyist number. Add in all commercial fishing lobbyist for all the states and federal government where CCA has a presence and then compare the numbers. There will be a huge difference with the commercial sector dwarfing the CCA. NC commercial fishing interests benefit by the lobbying in other states and at the federal level, i.e. tariffs on imported seafood, import bans, federal quotas, federal permits, economic relief direct payments, etc. Next, you should report on the biggest lobbying venture by the NC Fisheries Association- use of "excess" funds in the Commercial Fishing Resource Fund. Those funds are collected by the state of NC intended to pay for observing the NC gill net fisheries under terms of the incidental take permit (ITP) through the federal Endangered Species Act. The ITP allows NC commercial gill netters to kill hundreds of protected sea turtles and sturgeon in the gill net fisheries. No other state in American has such a permit that allows what NC's permit allows. Excess monies in the CFRF are by NC General Statute required to "After the priority set forth in subdivision (1) of this section has been fully funded, the Fund may be used for other projects to develop and support sustainable commercial fishing in the State"...support sustainable commercial fishing projects in the state. The NC Fisheries Association controls the excess fund expenditures. Look up what has been funded by the excess funds. To date, the vast majority of these funds has been spent on lobbying and public relations supporting status quo in our unsustainable commercial fisheries. All those billboards heading to the coast claiming "sustainable" commercial fisheries, paid for with CFRF dollars. Multiple events trying to attract young people into the commercial fishing industry with gift cards and expenses paid to boost attendance, paid for with CFRF money. Take the time, look at the funded projects that actually support sustainable commercial fisheries. The NC Fisheries Association hired a PR firm to lobby with these funds. The PR firm is running a website and Facebook page- Always NC Fresh. Please explain how any of this meets the requirements of § 113‑173.1. I have heard the fund has close to, maybe more than, $1million in excess funds. It's one heck of a nice slush fund that is being improperly spent.

How do they get the numbers for recreational fishermen? Surveys? I was surveyed in Brunswick County about 5 or 6 years ago by some youngsters wanting to know what I caught and so forth. I have them honest answers but I fail to see how that could represent the recreational fishing public. Like me, maybe the actual flounder themselves will go to another state to spend my vacation money and do some fishing.

All this is for not if there is no enforcement. I live on coast and don’t remember the last time I have been checked while fishing. I know it’s not a popular opinion to say we need more law enforcement but laws only work if they are enforced. That goes both commercial and recreational.

I'm an old man and I started fishing the Roanoke when Moby Dick was a minnow. Today is not the first time the rockfish had low spawn rates. Fish that are tagged in the Roanoke have been caught in other states. This is a multi state issue. I like the closed season. It works. In the late 70s the state of Maryland completely stopped the possession of rockfish, restaurants, fish markets, hook and line guy and commercial. It worked. Stocks came back. Suck it up and go without keeping a rockfish for a year. The fishery needs help!!!

Page 13 of amendment 3 of the FMP: HABITAT DEGRADATION AND LOSS WATER QUALITY DEGRADATION GEAR IMPACTS ON HABITAT (Bottom disturbing fishing gear can impact ecosystem function through habitat degradation. ) Inshore Trawling is so bad that even Mexico has banned it. I think it's funny you speak of the Rules for Radical! Most of your videos regarding southern flounder are half truths. You're an actor not a journalist and that is very evident in how you are amazing at reading a script, vice reporting the entire truth.

I don’t think you have any idea what you’re talking about. How many of the stripper’s fry are killed in trawler nets as by catch? Strippers travel through many states jurisdictions and stopping fishing for them in NC alone will do nothing to help the stocks recover. It’s time to stop the runoff pollution into the estuaries these fry depend on at the beginning of their lives and keep trawlers nets from killing them when they head for open waters. As far as not returning, once the trawlers have destroyed the bait fish stocks in an area the predator fish have no reason to return. STRIPPERS FOLLOW THE BAIT, NO BAIT NO STRIPPERS!

He is a liar. There are over 4000 commercial licenses with no slips accounting for their sale of flounder. They are using a commercial license for recreational purposes. Gigging as many flounder as they desire to put in their own freezers and those of their friends. But we can keep zero flounder we catch.
