      Hi Adam, Go for it! If there's cliffs there's likely Peregrine, it's just about finding their little ledges and scanning the cliffs, best thing to do is wait it out till you see one and Watch where it lands, good luck with it!

    What an excellent video - well done. I was wondering when we’d see you with what seems to be the “go to” wild life kit. The picture difference is notably better, I’ve got the same kit and as you say the focus system makes the whole experience a game changer.. The Bearded Readlings are one of the most beautiful birds to photograph and you made an excellent job of doing it. Keep them coming.

    Wow Lewis, some crack in photos of the Bearded Reedlings. When looking at Willow/Marsh Tit, look for the small white mark on the upper mandible. This seems a decent way to ID Marsh Tit in the field, but always a tricky bird unless you get good views.

    Guys, I live very near two Peregrines’ territories on the Jurassic Coast in Dorset. Please remember that in the breeding season you will require a permit to photograph these birds at a nesting site, (it is otherwise illegal). I absolutely am not suggesting that either Lewis or yourselves do, but over zealous photographers, and climbers, frequently and unwittingly cause the Peregrines disturbance which can and has, caused failed breeding. Take care. Thank you.

    • @LewisRound
      @LewisRound Месяц назад

      Thanks for the comment it is very important as you point out that these are Schedule 1 Species and have as little disturbance as possible, These encounters over the cliff top did not disturb the birds in their successful post breeding season and as you'll see from the images the birds were either leaving cliff ledges due to Crows mobbing or to chase a prey item. I will aim to point this out better in my videos as I learn to create more informative videos. Thanks again

      I have never seen so many Adders as this year on Cannock Chase (in 40 years), A couple of weeks ago I was walking down to where you filmed the Pied Flycatchers and saw 8 individuals in about 100 metres, once you get your 'eye in' it's amazing how many you spot. There are also plenty of Common Lizards and Slow Works still about.

  • @davepastern
    @davepastern 2 месяца назад

    Needed to be much earlier on that 3rd day - be there at pre dawn. As to shutter speed, 1/4000 is the minimum that I would use for a Peregrine. With today's AI NR software, you should never be afraid of pushing the ISO upwards.

    • @LewisRound
      @LewisRound 2 месяца назад

      Yeah you're probably right, I had limited time to get out on the cliffs as I was on holiday but next year I'm planning on making more of a dedicated trip for the Peregrines for sure! And yeah I definitely need to push the ISO more, guess I need to trust the kit more, Thanks for watching and the Advice

    • @davepastern
      @davepastern 2 месяца назад

      @@LewisRound I typically shoot BIFs at a minimum of 1/2000 @ f8. For Peregrines, I'd be going at 1/4000 minimum, since they are such a fast bird. Some pros recommend shooting wide open (give it a try) at 1/4000 (Isaac Grant for example). I prefer to stop down to f8 although for me, that means pushing my ISO up by a stop. I use a R3 which is the current ISO king and it's good up to ISO10000 (I have shot some Australian logrunners at ISO25600 and they came out OK after NR and editing). With a modern camera, especially a MLC, you shouldn't be afraid of pushing the ISO.

    I was sitting in a hide at Cley the other day, trying out a new digiscoping set up when a stunning fresh-faced juvenile Sparrowhawk came and sat on a post right out in the open just meters from the hide... if i had had my Nikon Z 100-400mm (1.4x TC permently attached) with me i would have got crippling images! However i had to settle for just crippling views as my scope was at the other end of the hide!... after about a minute or so i turned to see were my scope was and when i turned back the bird was gone.

      @LewisRound flipping waders!... never thought I would mistake a Greenshank for a Wood Sand but until Christian mentioned it I never doubted you. Don't feel too bad though because many moons ago a super-rare Greater Yellowlegs turned up at Daventry, hundreds of birders turned up, many of them experienced twitchers (the finder was a really experienced rarity hunter) but later in the day, after many had ticked it off their list and gone home, a guy noticed a white wedge on the wader's back... it was a Common Greenshank! There were more than a few Rufous-faced bumblers spotted leaving the area after that one.

    I've given up with this organization ! I love animals and feed the birds and squirrels so I asked this well-known organization three times in the last three years for their bird watching sheet as advertised by them and each time I am told * Ifcourse, we will send you one this week" . Ha ! Never received a single one. They are a joke.

    Maybe a lot more island scenes and the birds with a talk over would be more appealing than your outstretched arm

    I went a few years ago, great day out. The Puffins are walking past you on their way to their burrows. I took my Canon 100-400 V1 which struggled with the flying birds. I had left my 70-200/2.8 in the car, which in hindsight would have been a better choice. The Razerbillls/Guillimots were on the rocky ledges as the boat dropped us off. I did get a fledgling Little Owl sat up on a rock waiting to be fed, that was a bonus. We're actually on holiday in Pembrokeshire this week, I'm a short drive away so I may take the kids there for a visit. The rainy images were a nice change from the norm, well done for persevering and going anyway. It looks like it was quiet there.

      Yes a fantastic location and in my view the best place to photograph Puffins, The Razorbills and Guillemot have left the cliffs when I went unfortunately and apparently the Puffins have left by now but there may be some stragglers if you get lucky, ahh interesting to hear little Owl have been on there with the lack of trees, I've seen Short Eared Owl there before though. The 2.8 would be perfect for them in flight I may get one and visit again next year with one

    Well done on finding and capturing great images of a beautiful bird. I haven’t seen one for a few years, last time was Ynys-Hir in North Wales where Springwatch was using the reserve as its base. I haven’t been to Cannock since the early 90’s, probably before you were born, I’m going to subscribe to keep an eye on an area I fell in love with all that time ago.

      Thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed it, I would say Freda's Grave area and a walk down to Sherbrook Valley following the stream is a good route alot of varying species to see
