HVACR videos. The goal of this channel is to shine a light on the trade that has been so good to me, share the knowledge that I have with the community of HVACR professionals, young people who are interested in the trade and anyone with a casual interest in what we commercial service technicians do everyday. We will never know it all and will always make mistakes. All we can do is strive to be the best versions of ourselves that we can be, put customer service first, and continue to solve the problem and not just the symptom with everything we do... Leave the Trade Better Than You Found It...

Don’t miss this on your next start up. Transformer voltage taps matter and I commonly see them wired for the wrong voltage which causes lower low voltage and can cause wear on your low voltage loads in the circuit.

Learning on the job about this Dectron unit and oil return mode, the first 3 minutes after start up that made me think I may have had a dehumidification valve problem. Come along and watch me fumble my way through a unit I don’t know well. I’ll figure it out in the end and learn a lot along the way, if you’re not doing this, you’re doing it wrong. Turns out Dectron was bought by Seresto and it ...
New Carrier package unit not cooling. #hvac #hvacservice #hvaclife #commercialhvac #hvacarmy

This was an easy no cooling service call on a brand new carrier package unit. Locating the exact problem unit was harder than the diagnosis. A poorly located freeze protection thermostat failed causing the unit to stop cooling.

Got my hands on a Lennox core the other day. Had to go in and adjust dampers per customer. So easy. Good stuff Steve O
It does make it easy. Thanks, Bryan
Have a voyager 2, drawings are pretty weathered down and hard to read as I'm in florida. Is there anyways to get the drawings online? Trane E-Library (Is it a paid service)? Haven't found them in the manuals or anything.
@@nickgotschall9115 you may have to reach out to you local trane supplier, that would be the easiest/best way to get manuals. They do have an online library but I don’t know what it takes to get their literature. Be a good question for the local office though. Wish I could help more but trane can be difficult as you probably know.
You’re a goat. Thank you for this
Thank you, brother, glad it helped.
With solenoid magnets everywhere I would think you would be able to recover from a couple of ports. Put stubbies on other ports to verify.
I'm trying to follow you troubleshooting, it thinking the EEV or S3 (pump down solenoid) isn't open, but the sight glass wasn't clear till after you bypassed the low pressure switch. You were definitely short gas. S3 (pump down solenoid) in the piping diagram on page 31 of the Dectron DS Series Indoor OMM The reason for settling the air temperature 2° above the pool water, is that the higher the temperature difference between the air and pool water, the more evaporation will occur. If the temperature is below the pool water it will condense.

do I have to join my local ua to work in commercial hvac ? dont know what route to choose, my community college or my local ua
No you don’t. Just gotta get your foot in the door, I am not union and I didn’t go to trade school. Nothing against either, you just need to get experience. Where are you located?
northern California. I’m currently a apartment maintenance tech but I’m interested in refrigeration.
@jordisolorzano4231 keep learning, there are many ways to get into the trade, don’t give up, the trade needs you and it’s worth it in the end.
Great job Steve.
Thanks, Jr
Nice job , good to see ya succeeding ... Thx
Thanks, Eddy
Nice work as always Steve, thank you for the knowledge.

START UP STEVE
😆 that’s right Freon
Hope the new position is treating you well?
Hey thanks! I’m learning a lot everyday and enjoying it.
@EverythingHVACR Glad to hear it. Bit of a difference between paddling the ship vs steering it eh? ( as my engineer colleague used to say to me)
@sbingr5313 😆 I might have to steal that one, I like it.
@EverythingHVACR all yours my man. I had bad habit of picking up the tools and that was her response to me. Stop paddling and start steering :)
Building codes definitely lax years ago . Most new buildings have to provide access ( I believe its under the fire codes) . Many times ive brought up unsafe conditions to building maintenance at facilities to address these issues moving forward in our service agreements. Is it me but are you finding a lot of new guys affected by ladders and heights?? 2guys last month ,and 1 new guy this week 😮
Thanks, James. Sometimes guys don’t think about ladders, lifts and heights before showing up 😆, I have seen a few the same way.
I normally find balls on roofs 😂
😂 always some random shit on commercial City roofs
Such a awesome video, some* accounts you cant really do this, others you break it down a few units a month. Regardless, intellipaks are awesome i like them.
Thanks, humbertomacias! I agree, one of my favorite type units.
Damn, I’m so sorry. I’m goin to step my game up for sure. I WOULD BE PISSED! So you must have turned the unit off before putting the clamp on. I thought that shit was live. Should have saw the contactor isn’t pulled in but still that’s scary
Thanks, Dion. Yeah, luckily it wasn’t live, it was the load side, but still scary, too many careless mistakes that can easily be avoided.
👍
🙏🏼👊
That pressure switch thing you did worked for me thank you
That’s awesome, you are welcome, thank you for the comment

Very happy for you man! Wish you the best of luck in your new adventures. I'm with Jason, Rick and Chris. We'll be here waiting anxiously for whatever you are able to put out. Thank you for all your great advice and information over the last few years. Take care friend!
Thank you, I appreciate that.
I would expect an EEV to go with the rest of contemporary electronics.
I haven’t seen any EEVs on basic equipment, control, I think would be the issue. I think we will see more of it in the future though, now it’s mainly used in chillers and high end dehumidification equipment.
Great job Steve.
Thanks, Jr
Got to mess with my first core controller a few months ago. Was surprising how easy it was to connect too. I really liked it. Thanks for a good video Steve O.
Thanks, Bryan. I agree, the app makes it easy
Those seem like nice units ... Good vid Steve ... Thx Sir
Thanks, Eddy. These seem like they are built better than most these days
that antenna might indeed be an Wi-Fi antenna, considering the unit uses Wi-Fi for connection, not Bluetooth.
That is the your Bluetooth’s antenna by the damper motor
I installed those units when they first came out. They are pretty nice and the CORE app is laid out pretty decent
I agree, I think their app is better than symbio.
I wish you all the best in your new role. You'll be a fantastic logic programmer. (I'm assuming you won't be on the hardware side?)...
Thanks, RJ. I have a little input everywhere, that’s not to say that anyone is listening 😆. We also do the training as well, so I’m mostly control tech support, training and development. Our units are constantly evolving which keeps it interesting.
Great vid. I’m about to replace one my self
Thanks and good luck.
Is this hvac or breaks? I usually face the lineset down when deburring to prevent shavings from getting in.
Always a good idea. This is not a lineset, it’s an oil line so could only angle down so far here. It’s shown better in the full video, this is a 60 sec cut.
i totally agree with you, with the voltage taps. i often go to a recently installed roof top unit, and its wired with the wrong voltage tap on the transformer. thats why the start up sheets are important (-: ha ha ha
😆 start up. Your lucky if they turn the disconnect and gas on 😂
Lower voltage = higher amp draw.
Facts
It's wild how often we come across mis-taped transformers. Great info here.
Thanks! It is kinda crazy how much this happens when it’s so easy to correct.
*tapped. Taped is a different thing. In most cases I wouldn't have been so nitpicky but taping (marking wires) happens to be a thing in electrical as well, so it could cause real confusion in this case. 😉
Thats a very good check to do 👍👌
Yessir, thanks, John
Amen, my biggest pet peeve Steve O.
Thanks, Bryan, I’m with you brother
Definitely a common issue. Great information Steve-o
Thanks, Jason
Good find & good tips ... Thx
Thanks, Eddy
Good catch
Thanks
I find that very common in commercial oftentimes goes on unchanged for years. I remembered in the real hot summers contacts for coils without close because it wouldn't get 24v it would drop to like 20 or 18v
It’s so easy to change and yet it seems like it never gets done.
👍👍👍👀
💪 👀 👊
Very good sir
Thank you!
common problem Steve.
Yessir
I used to find that all the time Steve.
It happens too often
I see this often. In fact, where I work we have 208 and every single unit had to be changed. You'll also see a primary tap for the higher voltages where you can select between 440, 460 or 480.
It is a common issue.
Just had the same problem. And it looks like I had the same thermostat fry if that was a Honeywell proseries. Amazing that it will fail instead of the main board 3 amp fuse
Use.a double flare always.
Double flare? Please explain, I’m always down to learn.
I use a double flare on brake lines, never on refrigeration.
@@topher8634 ok, so what’s a double flare that you use on break lines? I’ve never heard of this.
@@topher8634 I googled it, I’ve never seen or heard of this being done on refrigeration.
@@EverythingHVACR me either Steve. They are required for brake line repairs because of the pressure but refrigeration pressures are nowhere near that of a brake system.
