"She had it coming" - Perrault's Little Red Riding Hood
Charles Perrault's Little Red Riding Hood popularized the fairy tale up to today, but set its morals even further backwards in time.
"Into the Hoods" explores the history of Little Red Riding Hood folklore.

I saw an interpretation of the pins and needles as a reference to sex and more specifically sex work. I guess there was a thing for a while where a working lady would have a needle in her sleeve to communicate her profession. There's probably some symbolism in that the pin is closed at the head, while the needle has a hole. There might have also been a connection to wishing wells, like sometimes people threw in pins or needles instead of coins.

While I always enjoy your spin on things, I think the phrase describing her dress as being “thin as gauze” might be referring to how fine (thin, and therefore more expensive than a thicker homespun fabric) the fabric is. Also, incredibly glad you shared this tale AND the illustrations, as I’ve seen these illustrations around on the internet and had no idea what they were from!

@Cosbrarian going to be honest, I lave Late Medieval & Early-Mid Renaissance fashion & Aesthetics from Mid-14th Century to General 15th Century to Mid-16th Century, basically anywhere from year 1350-1550, not necessarily historically accurate ( I’ll say 50-80% historically accurate) but rather a mix of historical & high-fantasy.
