A Small Tip That Helped My Archery Game #mathewsarchery
Nice bow!
And the rabbit hole gets deeper! Appreciate your content!
John Dudley does a video on the 4 points of anchoring ..ck it out when you can . I’ve been shooting since 1993 and never knew this gem 💎 pointer to excel my archery skill🏹it’s helped me a lot
Dude awesome! ✊🏾💪🏾
So the button makes sense on fixed housing and fixed pin sights. The housing and pins dont move so your anchor point isn't going to move. I don't like them because i hunt in very different climates through the year. Hard to feel the button with a face mask on at -20 degrees.
Wow yeah that’s wild for sure. I don’t blame you for that. I actually avoid wearing my face mask for just that reason. And dude that’s a steep shot. Where do you hunt?
No wind and movement.
For sure
No
For sure
I think so, because it breaks up your pattern and you blend with your surroundings to a point.(Unless you are in a blind) But they will pick up your scent first most of the time. IMO
I definitely see how that can be a thing for sure.
Camo only works if you stay still. Scent control only works if the animal is breathing. Write that down.
Hahahaha😂
Goodluck this year. Hope you get a huge buck
Dude thanks! I wish you the best of luck as well!
Scent control is most important! Second is sit down and shut the f up! Right when you think you should move….DONT!
No
Yeah I’m not sure they do either. I feel like movement and setup location is king for sure
Yeah
For sure
I am trying the clicker, but I actually like your process behind the thumb barrel mental note. I am concerned with the clicker’s noise in a blind or stand. I may end up with a normal thumb button.
Dude I feel you. But honest I think the noise of the clicker would probably be okay. So if it’s something that makes you shoot better I’d say stick with it and run it. I mean I’d at least try it before you cut the idea out completely. One missed opportunity won’t be the end of the world. But the knowledge gained from the experience would be priceless. Not that opportunities come that often for me. But long term I like to know for my self and not deal in hypotheticals. And I’m glad you like the process. I’ve actually simplified my process a bit more since this video. I need to do an update on it. Thanks for watching though man.
@ I was worried too about the sound, but you can barely hear it. It sounds loud next to your ear, but when you hold it away from you, it is almost inaudible. I will comeback and update though, if I notice deer hearing it. Cheers! What it has done for my ability to pull higher poundage and alignment with no bicep tendon soreness is undeniable. I am 54 and feel I can pull this for several more years.
@ dude definitely do that. I’d love to hear actual hands on experience. Good luck on the year. Looking forward to the update
@@walderman55 Click not even heard it is so light. Hehe! Shot a small 8 point with a 32 yd heart shot, pass through both shoulders. Mathews V3X 73 lbs, 29” draw and 510 grn arrow, Wasp Hammer SST 100 grn broadhead.
@@onwardupward9695dude let’s freaking go!!!! That’s awesome man. I love to hear that it went well. Congrats that’s sick! And dude nice set up!
Super helpful. Thanks bro
Dude awesome! I’m glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching.
I think there are about 5 "micro" tuning elements worth exploring (not sure what you have or have not tried yet) - {easy} Loop location (your leverage point) - {advanced} Draw length* - {advanced} Loop length* - {easy/medium} Torque tune - {semi advanced} Group tune (not recommended for those who like perfect tears through paper though😂) *Together these form the OVERALL draw length where your front and back portions are "optimized", its something "very few" people discuss or mention. If you are confident in your ability to shoot and recognize changes, you can make 0.5mm alterations and pick the difference immediately. Took me quite a few years to get around to playing with loop location. When I was starting out I do not recall anyone ever mentioning it, you basically set it in the lower to mid berger and that was it. My default position for the last 5 or so years is the upper half of the berger and its been a game changer. If you want to see something interesting, find some stuff on how Jesse Broadwater set up his Hoyt Podium X Elite back in 2016 or so, it will blow your mind.
Dude yes, I love it all for sure. I have been looking more into torque tuning. The weird thing about that is consistency. I feel like at times when I do it I am not consistent enough to know if it's me or if I am actually getting my tune that much better. I think I have seen the Jesse Broadwater video when he was in George Ryals shop. I need to rewatch it though and soak up more information. Thanks for the detailed comment. I love how you organized the tuning tips. I have been trying to take it one step at a time and learning the bow one step at a time. and with hunting season, I have put no hold with the tuning stuff. And to your point, Having the arrow through the top of the burger hole is definitely a huge game changer for sure! Thanks for watching and all the info man.

Great content! Good luck this season, we'll be following along!
Dude thank you! I appreciate that!
I’ve tried iron wills wide with bleeders, great penetration, horrible blood trails
Dude even for the wides! That's the whole reason I wanted to try them. I thing I'd get better blood then my 1" blades. Because these give me little to no blood at all I feel like. Well looks like I need a 3 blade options. What are you using this year?
I need to try that course, another new experience...looks like a good challenge.
It was fun! They say he changes it season to season but over all it was very fun
Are you local to TN?
Yes, I am.

Dude let's go! This makes me happy to hear the quick tips help others outside I'd my self
Hey dawg, thank you! Lots of knowledge, appreciate you Bro!
Man I'm glad you find it to be good info. It's truly a pleasure!
I got them 5mm Tko there so nice I just shot 3-D with the boys last weekend and it was so nice they slide out of the targets like butter 🏹
Dude for real though! That's such a low key benefit to the arrows but a huge benefit all the same!
@@walderman55 they are my choice of arrows love these things best arrow for hunting. I also shoot the Vap 4mm for three 3-D comp
@@josephhenderson7044 dude nice! I haven't tried the vaps yet. I felt like they were too heavy. Have you enjoy the vaps or rips more?
@@walderman55 definitely TKO for hunting and Vap 4mm for 3-D comp. I start shooting the TKO around the beginning of September in 3-D for hunting season. The Vapes fly so nice out on the course. I ended up buying a house in Ocala this past Saturday. I saw wild hogs and turkeys on the way out of Ocala heading to Tampa Sunday morning. Spent the day at the beach in Clear Water than fly back to NY Sunday afternoon. Lol
more great content - all about stretching my money as much as possible. Not there yet with the arrow work but now something to consider in the future- work in progress..
Dude thanks! I appreciate that. And yeah man arrows are fun to work with. Too me it's worth the bit of extra time it takes out of my nights to build them instead of getting the factory fletched stuff. Not that it's a huge difference but there is something about being invested in your gear. But take it one step at a time. There is no rush. Shooing and learning our bows always takes priority over any gear.
thanks for making this video i asked for i appreciate it
Of course man. Sorry it took so long! I appreciate you asking for it. Makes me feel better about making content that's talking about things I own rather then just how I use the stuff. Might sound odd but I never want to be a gear RUclips guy. I want to build a place where people can talk about what they have but also how they use it to maximize whatever it is that they have. I hope that makes sense. But if not. Thanks for the request all the same. 😅
@@walderman55 no i absolutely get it it’s easy to get caught in this spiral of all the gear people use and how they use them we really need more people like you who just lay it out how it is and not advertise just for money gain i really appreciate your content keep up the great work always looking forward to another video
@@bubba2405 Man you get it. It's an easy trap because gear is fun and keeps things new. So I get it. But I'm glad you understand where I'm coming from.
You hit the nail on the head!
Thank you man! Learning more and more one day at a time
Very accurate information and practical. I’m a Pa. Archer mid 40’s. Been in the woods since I was a youth. Your explanation is spot on. We all process the data while in the field and make the best decision for a safe harvest

Do you have a instagram my dude?
I do man. Not a lot of content just family stuff mostly. But it's @alderman49
Good stuff man. 6 years of shooting and I’ve yet to see someone name each component of a bow
Dude thanks man. I hope it is helpful for those like me a few years ago and even for the vets to be reminded of the simple anatomy.
Brother. This is such a great video! So helpful. I am a suuuuper big newbie to the archery world and this made so much make sense 🤣
Dude awesome!!!! That makes my heart happy for real. I just know how lost I was a few years ago. And how many different videos I had to watch to come to a conclusion of what these things are and what they do. So I'm glad this was helpful. So as a newbie are you hunting this year or just shooting a bow?
I think both are awesome by the way
@@walderman55 I definitely think I’m going to dive right in. Or try too anyways! Haha! I’ve hunted all my life, but got my first bow 3 months ago. Feeling very confident out to 40. Shooting weekly and making improvements. Hoping to take a doe this year and see where we ride from there.
@@walderman55 dude I would love to chat more about this!
@@ag.wheeler dude take the dive. I hunting with a bow my first year of actually shooting a bow and first year hunting and ended up getting a nice one. So I'm all for it! Make it happen! I was on the first come first shot. And a buck was the first thing I got the chance at after about 1 month of hunting. So if you are good at 40 a 20 yd shot from a stand will feel super easy man. And with your history in hunting! You are golden! And man hit me up on Instagram. Its Alderman49. I'd love to continue the conversation for sure!

Excellent breakdown and explanations!
Dude thank you! Means a lot!
Cool man. Thats pretty dat gone good advice right there.

😂😂 I pulled my first deer over 300 yards to my buddies stand and said HELP!! He couldn't stop laughing at me
Dude I'm so glad I'm not the only one. It's crazy to reflect on hunting stories. First time struggles are real
Valid point
Thank you.
I love this so much, thank you for putting this out in the world. I am a later in life archer just picking things up and these are things that speak to me. As an over 40 childless woman trying to navigate the very family oriented culture of hunting and archery, whose husband doesn’t share this particular interest, bless him, I do feel isolated sometimes and like an imposter. This speaks to so many things in life. Hubby supports my passion whole heartedly so that is a major win. It is great to count all the blessings and know that there are others in the same sphere of thoughts and dreams.
Man! That, fora lack of better words, warms my heart. I'm glad I shared this video, because I honestly almost didn't. Even if you were the only one that connected with it. It was worth it. You are definitely not alone. Keep shooting. And keep being open to a safe degree that is. I'm sure you know what I mean. I have to ask, what bow are you shooting? And do you have a public range you go to?
@@walderman55 I shoot a Bowtech Diamond that some friends got all set up for me about 8 years ago. I practiced for 2 solid months, we went on a hunt and I got my harvest, a Mule deer- one of the biggest moments of my life! They had kids, moved and life got busy. I just this month picked the bow back up. I found a public range and am doing the work, I want to learn and share everything I possibly can, it really is my calm space. I hope you keep up with the videos, I really enjoy your perspective and thoughtfulness on the subject.
Amen, Amen and Amen...
Always great to hear like minded people!
I'm in a similar situation...wondering if I should look at those types of releases. Currently using an index release I got with my Whitetail Maxx bow.
Dude at the end of the day if the index works no need to change. I changed because I tried the goat at the range and I fell in love and spent way to much money on it. But looking back and seeing how I got a 2 for 1 I wouldn't change it st all. But again too level guys use index as well. It's all a personal thing. So don't let RUclips make you think you need index. Now....all that being said 😂 I think there are benefits to a hand held over an index butttt that's just me haha. Be great man.
@@walderman55 Nah, I hear ya for sure. If you think about this like hiking...do you like tent camping or using a hammock? Well, I'm so new...I won't know until I try both! lol! Keep up the great work :)
@@theprepperdad I like how you put that. If and both have positives, you just have to find a way to make it work for you. So shoot the crap out of what you have and learn as much as you can along the way. Second hand information is great. But nothing beats learning it for yourself. And thanks I appreciate you thinking that it's great work. lol. I'll keep doing my best.
Hey man, not sure [out of all of the bow channels] how yours showed up on my home page, but happy it did and just sub'd. I've watched a few of your videos and it's nice to see an authentic look at archery. At 46, I just picked up a love for archery. I'll hunt next season '25 while I dial it all in.
Dude thanks for a complement as big as authentic. Because that's definitely the goal. To keep it all me. And thanks for subbing. I hope to keep this going for awhile. It's a fun creative outlet that surrounds a personal passion of mine.
While the saying aim small, miss small is true, shooting dots can induce target panic as you try to hit a small circle. On the flip side, there are some people myself included who actually shoot better at 3D targets or even just targets with bigger circles on them. Why? It's because you have a larger area to let that pin float around in, and the pin will stay in the area the entire time. Trying to hit a 2-3" dot at 20 yards your pin is drifting in and out of the dot which can induce target panic and you'll want to punch the trigger as the pin drifts over it. On a 3D target you're shooting at a silhouette and while it does have defined borders, the overall area for your pin to float in is much larger, so you relax more. Even on a live animal while we all strive to make a perfect shot, deep down we know where the vitals are on the animal of pursuit and know that a less than perfect shot will still put it down.
Oh yes yes and yes! I definitely agree with everything you just said. But something I learned as well with target panic when I first started Archery was kind of the lean into it more approach. Maybe it doesn't work for everyone. But I had two back to back seasons where I was locked off target and couldn't hit a big or small dot for the life of me. And at the time I didn't have words for it. But for me I kind of sat back and asked my self what was going on. And of course the quick answer was "I want to make a perfect shot" second I said "aiming so small and the pin covering up the dot is scary and frustrating." But once I settled my mind and got over the idea of not being able to see the dot I wanted it hit and actually getting happy when I can't see the dot and trusting my pin was where I wanted it was the moment I was able to truly work through my shot no matter what. Not that it made me Kyle Douglas or anything. But it was a simple reminder that I have what I need between my ear to fix my issues when it comes to mental lapses. Not that you asked for all of this. But I tend to personal work through issues and figure out the why rather then avoid said things that causes bad out comes. Especially if that same thing can also aid in my own personal growth.
@@walderman55 I think a lot of archers will never conquer target panic. I honestly would love to try hypnosis or a sports psychologist.
@@chads4556 do you feel like your have target panic currently?
@@walderman55 I’m honestly not sure, I think it’s maybe sporadic if that’s possible. Like I’m trying to master the focusing on the target blurry pin technique, but know I’m not doing it perfectly. I am accurate, but still am always working on my shot.
@@chads4556 Dude that's the truth I think for us all. So many possible points of contention. But personally I think it's dope you have one main thing you are working on. Because it's so easy to get lost in wanting to fix it all at once. But sounds to me you are on it. If I could be of encouragement, won't let the boogie man that is "target panic" get to you. So much of it is simply being able to focus on what you want to instead of being concerned about what distracts. Which then leads to being locked of. At least that's my working definition. You sound pretty solid so just trust your shot and keep killing it!
That’s pretty slick idea gonna implement this shooting tomorrow. Season opens here Sunday!
Dude so it's the next few days? Did you try it out? How did it work for you?
