I feel like you may have switched the chicken for the egg. Yes, Ego likes Isagi, but he's not biasing any selections in Isagi's favor. He likes Isagi because the arbitrary challenges and lessons he gave to players caused Isagi the most growth. If Isagi ever failed to meet expectations at any step, he would have another favorite. I've also seen it mentioned that the Wildcard selection was made for Isagi, and I disagree for the same reason. The wildcard was made because Ego knew that the standard system wasn't perfect, and a little bad luck could end up kicking someone who deserved to be in the project out of it. It was made for "the best striker who couldn't meet expectations," and that was Kunigami. It could have been Isagi if Naruhaya was slightly better at emulation, but they weren't, so it wasn't. And as a personal theory, I feel like Ego didn't fail to become the best striker in the world, he just realized he couldn't do it on the field of play. His weapon was the people around him, and Japanese soccer didn't have enough quality players to bring out the full potential of that talent. Thus, even though he views Noa's soccer as flawed and beatable, he could never prove it as a player. He needed to become a coach who could make the environment necessary for his soccer to thrive. The fact that the strongest players in the program are the ones who most closely replicate his style doesn't seem to be an accident: it's not that he likes them more, it's that he created an environment where their style of play is the most optimal method to advance.

Honestly my favorite idea is if Kira came back it’s more in a more casual way. Maybe blue lock having a day off like end of U-20. Maybe they meet Kira and his friends who won nationals because all the best strikers were at blue lock. Giving us a chance to see how Kira team gets crush and even how isagi even just out classes Kira in a humiliating way. Kira the type to me who would of just made excuses after he left blue lock.
