Rekha Tandon is a performer/teacher of Indian classical Odissi dance and as Artistic Director of Dance Routes, has choreographed a unique body of solo and group work combining Odissi’s chiseled movements with folk acrobatics and Yoga.

She received her training in Odissi over 17 years with Padmavibhushan Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra, Padmashree Guru Madhavi Mudgal, Guru Trinath Maharana and Guru Surendranath Jena. Her thesis in Dance Studies was mentored by Dr Kapila Vatsyayan and explored expanding the physical parameters of Odissi’s dance practice with reference to Choreological Studies, at the Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in London. The research examined Odissi’s creation in the 20th century from folk Gotipua resources, as well as from Odishan temple architecture/sculpture, and its cultural roots in Tantra and Yoga. She has authored two books, ‘Odissi-A Dance of Sculpture’ and ‘Dance as Yoga-the Spirit and Technique of Odissi’.
