Forging A Blacksmith Water Can
Просмотров 1,8 тыс.21 день назад
This is a quick project so I have a small can to cool off my tools at the anvil. I made this from 3/16 x 3/4 bar, the best part of this project is if the can goes bad the handle fits on a new one #blacksmith #diy #metalworking
Forging A Flat Hot Chisel
Просмотров 778Месяц назад
I forged this from a busted fuller and it is 3/4" coil spring but I like the way it turned out. This was the fust time I have used my cross peen since I put a new handle on it, so it was long overdue to swing it. I hope you enjoyed the video thanks for watching!! #blacksmith #diy #metalworking

This project is a fun one and doesn't really need any special tools just a few files. I forged this from scrap steel and hardened in canola oil. #blacksmith #diy #metalworking
Forging A Slitting Chisel
Просмотров 2 тыс.2 месяца назад
I've been needing a 3/4" slitting chisel so I decided to make one from 3/4" coil spring, also wanted to put an octagon handle on as well. I was hoping I wasn't going to get any pitting, but I lose track of my heat messing with the camera I hope you enjoy!!! Thanks for watching!!! #blacksmith #diy #metalworking

Forging A Hotcut From An Old Hammer
Просмотров 8382 месяца назад
This was made from and old hammer to give it new life. Honestly it was a tough project due to not having the correct tongs, so I ended up getting a lot of bounce and a bad grip, but it worked out in the end and I'm very happy with the results!! thanks for watching I hope you enjoyed!!! #blacksmith #diy #metalworking

Forging Fullers And Making Mistakes
I realise it’s an old clip/vid, but great work, I really enjoy your enthusiasm including making the chisel to prep the log. You’ve really encouraged me to strip down my leg vice, clean it, wire brush it, linseed oil it and remount it. We are only custodians of our blacksmith tools and devices, and hopefully they’ll pass on down to the next generation of enthusiasts. Thanks from OZ down under.
What is the size diameter of the round and square stock?
7/8" I believe
I've had the same one for almost 2 years I'm a maker so I don't just forge so it's not used everyday, but I use it regularly It's held up pretty good . I just recently had to relign it. Also just to put a point on it I would recommend than Noone watching this should ever run their forge with wool exposed ! It's not just kinda bad for you It's some really really nasty stuff!
So cool, i’ll build a small DIY forge someday and starting practicing making chisel, i like the Japanese style just like yours
Regardless of the purchase cost, would think a forge being MADE IN OUR USA would have a bit more quality than what that does
I have had mine for a couple of years as well. Prior to that I built 2 others that worked okay. One was from a portable air tank and the other was from a used helium tank. I have never attempted forge welding with mine but from what I understand to have to adjust the burner a certain way. Something to do with the oxygen intake into the forge? For the money they are decent little unit.
Having the same issue with welding in mine. Some videos on RUclips show folks welding with it but I haven’t figured out how they’re doing it. Mine is about due for its first rebuild also.
Great review. I have one that I predominantly use instead of my coal forge. But it does not work when the work does not fit into the narrow width.
useful info thanks, I looked at these and decided to go with a home build with a bought burner or maybe two.
Well done - Thank you!
Excellent project. Thank you for sharing with us!
Glad you like it!
Subbed
Nice one
NICE........I've seen something similar to that for making a handle for using canning jars for drinking out of.
the start of the video i began to wonder if i was watching one of Torbjörn Åhman videos very nice you should throw in some magic tricks like he does, nice work btw
Thank you I'm trying to up my filming skills a little.
A simple yet effective and useful tool.... Thank you Sir :)
..yep, i like the design a lot. Well done sir...!
Thank you very much!
Those little pots of water, oily wax or waterever you use to cool your tools can get really hot, not nice when youre not expecting it. Great little handle, you could extend it a bit for watering down coal in the fire too.
That looks like fun! Kinda miss your commentary
I'll be back to the commentary soon I just wanted a quick forging video for the week.
INNOVATIVE LIKE A LOT OF YOUR THINGS
Thank you!
Awesome 😎
I really like that design
Noice
In the forge very little goes to waste. Most stuff can be re-used for something else, within limits. One thing I have ran into in the past is when using old used coil springs is sometimes they have small cracks in them and that is probably why they were replaced. Normally it isn't through 100% of the spring, plus if someone is willing to give them to me for free I can work around it. Just something to keep an eye out for.
I have had quite a few crack from bad coil springs, but the free price is definitely worth dealing with it does get tiresome when I keep breaking tools due to imperfections
@@solidsteelironworks We fail, we learn. Nothing wrong with that in my book.
Very nice thank you Sie :) Have you considered punching it though and adding a side handle ? like GS tongs makes would get your hand further away from the hot stuff ruclips.net/video/LANGtuTWsAw/видео.html
..might get a bit warm on hot stuff. i made one like that and it sure is handy. Guess that's why i go thru a couple of pairs of gloves. Good job Lee...!!
If I could only find a left glove supplier id be good to go, my right glove last forever haha.
@@solidsteelironworks ..i reckon i have a pile of right handed ones also, hahaha...!
Very nice work 😊
Cool project. Try getting the flower up to a low heat and using a brass brush on it to give it a bit more color for contrast. Like the butterfly and the way you made it. You could possibly alter the shape a bit and make dragonflies with the same technique.
Great idea! ill try that next time!
This is a beautiful channel... Love your content. Please continue and you'll have many more views and subscribers.
Thank you so much!
Nice job. This is a rare forged tool build! We shared this video on our homemade tools forum last week 😎
Awesome! Thank you!
..experimenting with little projects like this helps clear the fog on the brain. Good job on this Lee...!
Great job, looks good.
Fun!
looks pretty cool to me but to answer your question, perhaps you can make a sort of button like you would find on the back of a tie pin.
Great trick with the large eye bolt. Thanks!
..Nice design Lee ! You have got me thinking to make one with possibly a sliding collar to lock it in place...
Great Job. Beautiful and useful. Thanks.
Machinery's Handbook will give you all the info
I've been at this for about a dozen years or so but it was only a couple of months ago that I finally made myself a touchmark. Thanks for showing us this, awesome job.
very well done Sir.
Haha, I actually love making tools to make tools to complete projects. It’s what keeps me going sometimes. I saw Thacks as well a while ago but I like the addition of the ears for the vise. (Can’t recall if he did that as well) thanks for the video, I’ll have to get out and make one now.
I'm looking for a piece of u beam that will slide over once of my anvils to make a saddle for rivet bottom dies , I think my smallest anvil will do this nicely with some stock I have already... Always worth snagging those car suspension springs when you can get them and truck leaf springs too. (In my experience most garages will either let you have them for nothing or give you them really cheap if you offer to buy them) Thanks for sharing
nice little how to thanks for sharing
Looks great, thank you for walking us through the process.
Another great video!
Great job. Just wondering why you tempered the tool, Also, what did you mean by 400 degreees, Celcius or Farenheit.
I temper the touchmark just so it isn't so brittle and to help toughen it a little more, and it was 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
@@solidsteelironworks thanks, i am in Belgium so we deal with Celcius.
..Good job sir. i also have a couple in different sizes...
Nice job.
👍👍👍👍
..Nice tool sir. i enjoyed the camera work. you can see the metal moving...
Thank you I try and keep the camera angles interesting!
