Wow! Whoever uploaded all those Husker Du Live in London vids ages ago forgot about this one - the last 4 songs before the encore. Features 'Every Everything', 'Makes No Sense At All', an INCENDIARY 'Pink Turns To Blue' (blows away the Zen Arcade version IMO), and a nice little cover of 'Ticket to Ride'. AWESOME stuff. May 14, 1985, Camden Palace - London. If I ever stop loving Husker Du I wann...

I was disappointed when Warehouse came out. It was way to pop and to "well produced" for what I loved about Husker Du. But now listening to it it's actually really really good. I remember buying Flip Your Wig on cassette and it rocked my world. Their work has only gotten better with age. They really were great.

This was actually a pretty good interview! In the pre-Nirvana days, it was actually a really big deal for an underground band to sign with a major label. In some quarters, it meant you had finally "made it", but in other quarters it meant you had "sold out". Whoever prepped Joan's questions knew what they were talking about and why this was a relevant question. (Hey, maybe she prepped her own questions, but I suspect the show had someone on staff whose job that was.) Anyhow, Husker Du and the Replacements were among the first of the American underground bands of the '80s to sign with a major. Sonic Youth and Dinosaur Jr would follow, and then grunge hit the mainstream and kicked open the floodgates... for better or worse.

The Huskers never really "dressed" for the occasion (especially Greg, what a boring sweater he's wearing!), but their great music and powerful live energy stripped away the daggy presentation.

I love Warehouse. Their previous ones are much stronger, no doubt, with some of their best work, but I always find myself coming back to Warehouse. It just hits me in a way, different from their other albums. But don’t get it twisted, I love all of their releases!

    • @cftvdata

To a degree, is my understanding. They were at least communicating a bit as the Savage Young Dü release was being put together. Bob wrote a touching eulogy of sorts after Grant passed: "It was the Fall of 1978. I was attending Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota. One block from my dormitory was a tiny store called Cheapo Records. There was a PA system set up near the front door blaring punk rock. I went inside and ended up hanging out with the only person in the shop. His name was Grant Hart. The next nine years of my life was spent side-by-side with Grant. We made amazing music together. We (almost) always agreed on how to present our collective work to the world. When we fought about the details, it was because we both cared. The band was our life. It was an amazing decade. We stopped working together in January 1988. We went on to solo careers, fronting our own bands, finding different ways to tell our individual stories. We stayed in contact over the next 29 years - sometimes peaceful, sometimes difficult, sometimes through go-betweens. For better or worse, that’s how it was, and occasionally that’s what it is when two people care deeply about everything they built together. The tragic news of Grant’s passing was not unexpected to me. My deepest condolences and thoughts to Grant’s family, friends, and fans around the world. Grant Hart was a gifted visual artist, a wonderful story teller, and a frighteningly talented musician. Everyone touched by his spirit will always remember. Godspeed, Grant. I miss you. Be with the angels."
