DrockTalk
Добавлен 14 янв 2014
I like to play video games and have a laugh! I started DrockTalk in October 2023 with a focus on two separate topics: Polytopia content and social game shenanigans with my friends. My channel may be small, but it's got pizzazz!
It's been a fun time in 2023. After starting off without any experience I'll be ending the year with 16 videos under my belt. In 2024 I'd like to make the channel more interactive for viewers by highlighting comments, taking requests, and eventually scheduling streaming events.
Thank you to everyone that spent time watching my content, giving feedback, and participating in my recordings in 2023. Special thanks for the unending support of my closest people. There's more in store for 2024!

#1 Valheim with the Boys, Get Your Viking On!
On medium to large water maps I do get two moonis. This allows me to explore further faster and claim the middle of the map as well as more cities. Since the cities can be far apart on a water map, moving far fast is good.
Keep making this content, its so enjoyable ❤
Polaris can quickly take over the map if left unsupervised. Very threathening tribe
Lmfao 😂
oh hey, welcome to my highly under appreciated channel lol. Every day I contemplate making more videos and say, “no” lol
You like ice archers?
They’re pretty good in certain situations. If you’re in a position to use multiple against one city then you can really nullify your opponent’s game plan.
@@DrockTalk I love doing that but haven't been able to get in that position very often at all
@@ThePolysaur yeah, I find that sleds are more useful most of the time. If you’re on dryland though ice archers are more reasonable.
Nerf Cymanti!
For my imperius, I like upgrading my city on t0, doing nothing on t1, and making a rider on t2 (if the map allows for it). It gives you the same initial exploration as a t1 warrior but it snowballs better to quickly grab large swats of the map with an explorer or two. By the time you are exploring with riders, the warriors can tend to fall behind and become less useful
The polypush disrespect :o I'd like to add that depending on the situation you can choose to make a second polytaur or a second warrior. This is mainly the case when you are in a situation where you won't capture your first city on t2 (for example, you pushed in a bad direction, you want to skip the first village with the warrior and use the polytaur to get it, or you went for a ruin at the start). It is a different opening so should probably be mentioned as such, but it can be very potent since you claim a lot of ground very quickly. The reason I wouldn't use that opening if you capture a village on t2 is that it doesn't allow you to get forestry before your first capture, which will put you behind on econ. Personally I prefer to start with fungi and make a warrior on t1 and maybe t2. It gives you your first village a bit later but you get both your level 2 and level 3 upgrades earlier, which also means you can buy techs cheaper for slightly longer Great video though, it will definitely help people pick up new tribes
Great video, but this Kickoo tech tree is out of date. Fishing is tier one tech now
Small Tip for Polaris: Units with skate can still benefit from roads. If a unit with skate is on a tile with road and that tile is also adjacent to some ice, their movement will have the same behavior as if they were on ice. Basically, roads give you some more leeway with using moonis or sleds.
Roads next to ice function as ice??
How old are you dude? Love the content and the metal music in the background. Perfect combination
Haha thanks! I turned 31 this year. The intro to this video is one of my favorite creations. Glad you liked it!
Can you please try ice archers and mind benders it’s broken
lol that sounds pretty funny to attempt. If I come out of my break I might start with that. You say it’s broken, but that sounds hard to pull off to me.
Loses to rider roads hard
Why don't you just get fungi on turn zero and move shaman next to city, then, next turn you train a warrior and boost it, and on another turn, again, train and boost a warrior
I like to get the warriors trained and on the move as quickly as possible so my shaman doesn’t have to move through the clouds as much. If you lead with the shaman you could easily walk into an ambush and lose one of your best assets early on.
Cymanti definitely op
They can be under certain circumstances. Most of the time you just have to understand how they operate and adjust to their weaknesses.
5:32 Should have waited with hitting him 'til after freezing. 7:13 It hurts that the very first thing you do after capturing isn't upgrading the city for a free star. 8:32 Yes. Attacker HP does not matter at all against catapults, since they have 0 defence. You'll always get the full 4.5 points of damage per attack score. Great to attack catapults with the nearly dead units when feasible.
Ha yeah it hurt me to see that too. It was a live match so sometimes when you’ve got like 60 seconds to take your turn you make mistakes. I didn’t check the time stamps, but upgrading immediately isn’t always the best move. It depends if that 1 spt outweighs whatever else you needed to do next turn. Thanks for the tip
@@DrockTalk Not in this case. It already had one pop. You'd spend four stars and immediately get five back. You'd be able to do more even on the SAME turn.
What's your all time high ELO rating? How many matches have you played?
I’m at 1437 right now and I play 4 player matches like 80% of the time. I’ve played 401 matches on my main account. 2nd account is a negligible amount, probably less than 20. (I bought a 2nd copy on Steam so I could record on my PC).
Polaris is op not can just freeze freeze and freeze and just stall the game until you’re economy id booming and you’re making bank then take over
True. They can be countered by a strong navy though with the ability to move and break ice in the same turn. You’ve got to send scouts forward to break the ice, then use bombers to control the area. They might make more ice and kill your scouts, but if you plan well and keep hammering them, they’ll eventually run out of freezing units and you can start to push them back.
These are great. thanks for making this content!
Thanks! I haven’t made anything for a while. Maybe this is just the encouragement I needed lol.
I actually dislike your Luxidor opening. I like to train warriors on turn 0 and 1 and by the time any of them are able to capture a village, you can research a tier 1 tech. The reason I don't like your opening is because riders aren't more effective than warriors when going through the fog, but they cost 1 more star.
Interesting points. Maybe you can call that one Luxidor Core! I like the rider method because luxidoor’s level 2 city lets them make more riders than the other players, and faster too! You don’t necessarily gain an advantage when you’re moving through the fog, but if you need to contest a village or ruin then you’ll benefit from the upgraded units. What tech would you get first?
@@DrockTalk I always get either hunting or organization depending on the resources in my capital and the second city. Riders can be a second tech. There are rare cases when you actually don't need them: maybe you want to get on the water first - then you get sailing. If you go with my opening, I think Luxidor would be just barely worse than other turn 0 tribes (because the capital is level 2 but doesn't have a workshop so only 3 stars per turn). I had some success with it (I'm 1300 elo and haven't platoed yet). One last thing. If I don't spawn in the corner, I usually send one of my 3 warriors there. That way I can always upgrade my capital with a tier 1 tech.
Thanks for the awesome video.
Thanks for watching! I’m glad you liked it.
Excellent content from a very cool streamer that will definitely make it nmh. Wonder who raised these successes.
Ha thanks. I too thought it was cool. I like the part where we laughed at Chris
Drock can u tell me how lucky am i ??? Since i got 3 ruins in a row and the 3 of them were resources so i was able to max my cap city on turn 5 and then turn 6 i got lucky again by using explorers and it showed me more ruins that were only split apart by 2 tiles
Lol luckier than I’ve ever been!

Can u do a segment on Polaris? Idk with the new updates, now im having an issue getting him 2 win..!🤬 yeah im not happy. So im thinking i might not b using him efficiently.

lol thanks! 🙏🏼
this is beautiful
Haha thank you very much. I put some love into this one.
This might be one of the funniest lethal company highlight vids I've seen on the tubes
Thank you very much! I worked hard on this one
I guess it’s good if you want to simulate riders for the first 2-3 turns while maintaining the advantages cymanti holds but the same advantage can be gained without a boosted warrior. You’re just missing out on 2-5 potential stars by turn 4 by doing this. You’re pretty much losing everything cymanti has to offer by doing this, trying to replicate another tribes specialty start. You’re just lucky they’re overpowered and can compensate for your terrible decisions later on
Interesting point. How does this miss out on stars?
Your opening T0: trained warrior (cost 2) = 3 stars left T1: Fungi (cost five) = 0 stars left T2: Warrior (cost 2) = 0 star left T3: Have 4 stars with 1 population 9 accumulated stars from T0 to T2 and spent the same amount of stars. T3 you'll have a capital with 2 population and just 4 stars, can't train another warrior nor upgrade the capital Normal T0: Fungi (cost 5) = 0 stars left T1: warrior (cost 2) = 0 stars left T2: warrior = 2 stars left T3: Fungi (cost 5 then pick 5 stars back from upgrade) = 7 stars left 11 Accumulated Stars at T2 and spent 9. Can upgrade capital to level 3 in T3 and get 5 stars back ending in 7 stars.
I personaly on imperius love cloak rush. Usualy get cloak on turn 5
Wow that’s fast; I didn’t know that was possible! Would you be making at least 8 stars per turn by turn 5 with that plan? I think one downside to that would be that enemy cities would be low level, so you wouldn’t get that many daggers per infiltration.
@@DrockTalk 4 days ago a send my spyrush replay on your discord
Thanks! lol your profile pic is too funny@@mlekot2250
Nice, some more in- depth openers with potential follow-up plans and naviagtion is my favourite technology ever (oops, you misspelled)
Haha I didn’t notice that, now it’s gonna bother me. I’m just glad that you watched that far into the video!
Mr. Drock, if I were trying to play a najdorf in Polytopia what moves would you recommend as similar to that in spirit?
Based on preliminary research, the Najdorf is an aggressive yet positional opening meant to limit black’s movement, but without holding the center of the board. The Polytopia equivalent would probably be to expand along the edges of the map instead of going for the center. In 1v1 your opponent will usually go for the center to cut off your resources and split the map in half, but if your goal is to move along the edge anyway and you do it with enough speed to avoid getting boxed in, then this might work out for you. Once you have a solid foothold along the border, you would want to zone out your opponent from moving into your area freely. You could achieve this with superior ranged units and placement such as catapults or bombers. Once you have an area under control you could push forward with hardy units like rammers, swordsman, or knights. Hypothetically.
At 7:27, one way to keep track of you've already moved your units is by looking at the icon that shows what type of unit it is. If there's a white border on the icon, it means that you haven't moved that unit this turn. Hopefully that'll protect your future riders!
Wow thanks for the tip! I can’t believe I didn’t notice that earlier lol
this is life changing tip :) I have a ton of such problems esp with aquarion as their 2 main units both have escape skill; wish it was actually green boarder so it could be spotted easier
The discord server is a great place to find people to play with or talk strategy.
Thanks for the plug!
Thanks for another great video
Hey, Polychamps. You’re welcome, thank you for the support! You’re the best.
Is this the one and only polychamps? Pog
Polytopia Openings > Chess openings
Polytopia > chess?
Heck yeah
Lol yes. In Polytopia when I’ve overextended my knight it means my knight is a hero. In chess an overextended knight is an idiot
I used a bomber in chess and they said I was cheating. Pshh
No need to shit on a Banger just to glorify another. I love both games. Poly has more depth but chess gives you consistency by removing all the balance and RNG issues.
First of all, great video, keep it up! Well the Kickoo-Sneaku is a great plan of an opener, but u miss out on a turn. Instead of building a port on t3, build a warrior in your capital. T4 u get the port and you are able to instantly move into the water. T5 u have 9 stars (one of navigation, but u dont need it yet anyways). You move your Raft on a Starfish and build warriors in both cities. On T6 you have exactly 10 Stars to get Navigation and harvest the Starfish. From there on out you can move another warrior into the water and explore with the other two. Since your new ship can't move yet you are free to lv your second City with the 10 Stars from the Starfish (6 for the tech + 4 for pops (Org/Hunt)) *if your capital can be upgraded with the same tech, do that first and get 5 stars back, then proceed to upgrade your second city. I hope this was helpful. ^^
Thanks for the tip. You’ve got a good eye for strategy!
Drocktalk, the only place I go for my Advanced Strategy...let me tell ya!
2150 glass is the only place I go for compliments!
Whats your online multiplayer elo?
I usually hover around 1400. I mainly play 4 player normal size maps.
@@DrockTalk I like the way you tried, connecting Polytopia openings to chess.
Thanks! It worked a bit better for the first openers video. As I get into more complicated strategies, the variability compared to a chess board makes it hard to come up with a one-size-fits-all guide.
i loooooooooooove cymanti
Cymanti gang forever!
