I am a travelling service engineer that has been travelling around the world for 20 years now.
As per 2023 I have visited over 350 ships and offshore installations in over 110 countries.
I will continue to learn about youtube and documentary film production.
So for you travel, tech and ship nerds, stay tuned for more videos of what you like to watch!!
I have a few ideas on other genres, and are also working on a couple of new channels for the future. These will be promoted here when I have done more work with them.

Climbing the rope ladder from a supplyboat to a bulk carrier. This is a tribute to the guys that do this on a everyday basis. Most people never see anything like this. They see some ship in the horizon. Well, here is the real world. Also you will see a ship to ship bunker operation in rough sea. The ship was full of cargo, and the cargo was sulphur by the way.

Here is a view of the engine room of a specialized paper transport ship. It has a 12060 KW Wärtsilä main engine, three auxiliary generators and one shaft generator. Maintenance performed on the main engine, and a test run was done afterwards.

This is a medical evacuation (medevac) of a patient that got ill on a cruise ship outside Germany in 2022. The German coast guard has serious equipment available, and came for the rescue. Even tough this is a serious event, and sad for the patient, I could not avoid getting very impressed by the vulgar display of power. They kept this large helicopter stable above the ship for almost 10 minutes...

Definitely need ear muff. I can stand large 6-cyl in close confinement but this is God level.

The ship I am on now has the 10 RT Flex 96C so I know this one is huge because ours is and it is 10Cyl.
how do you manage to pick-up ALL of the coal ??
Often they lower down a wheel loader, and it scoops up the rest in one pile. Sometimes a bulldozer.
If major maintenance scheduling was due, who would fully strip & rebuild this engine ?
Yeah, I have worked on this type of engines 9 line type and 12 V type. And if this is the former Costa Atlantica or Costa Mediterranea, and it looks like, I’ve worked on both in 2016 and 2018

They are out for lunch when I filmed. But there is not swarming crew around in modern enginerooms. These are reliable engines that have regular service intervals.

Usually, two propellers, electric propulsion. These engines purpose is generating electric power.

You could say main engines as there are no other engines. The majority of cruise ships built in the last 25 - 20 years, have electric propulsion,. On older cruise ships you can find classic main engines, usually four, and two propellers.

That prop shaft is like a massive lathe that would chew you up and spit you out without even knowing it. The mass and torque involved in these systems is amazing and hard to comprehend. I’ve been on a ship with a 5,000 hp Sultzer 5 cyl engine and can appreciate the engineering and power of these beasts.

Just absolutely incredible engineering. It's probably spending the propeller at 25 RPM. These things are so complex but yet so simple. You have to be the best at what you do to be out at Sea and keep these things running they need constant maintenance. A car puts on an average of about 10,000 mi a year these things do that in a month

Hi. This ship was two years old when I made the video. I also have a video of the worlds cleanest engineroom. That ship was over ten years old... So yes some crew really keep their engineroom in battleshipshape.
It was an Eco Friendly Bridge.. Glue Laminated Wood .. there are more Bridges built like this in Norway.. They Focused more on Form rather than Structure

I saw DG6 ( 6 diesel generators, plate and frame heat exchangers, chillers with 410a refrigetant water cooled but not with cooling towers. I guess that's what the plate and frame heat exchangers are for, to reject the heat of evaporation and compression.😊😮
I did not see it before but the crankshaft port covers were flexing in unison with the downstroke of each piston.
Any chance they could put a guard over that rotating shaft instead of an open rail? Farmers risk prosecution for unprotected power take off shafts. That is a really big version of one of those that's hard to miss.
Once the ship is at sea and the main engine running , it’s rare for anyone to be walking along those prop shaft catwalks and if someone is, it’s not general public and if your there, you are trained and aware of hazards.
