    Thanks for your great video! One question. The course seems to recommend taking Machine Learning before the course. But, I prefer to take AI course to ML course since I'm aiming at specialization in Robotics. Do you think AI course can be considered good prep for RL course instead of ML course?

  • @markschulman5669
    @markschulman5669 6 дней назад

    Paul, since you took AI, AI4R, and KBAI, and you make a recommendation on the value of taking all 3? Do they each cover different facets of AI? If there is overlap in the material, what is the best sequencing for somebody without a programming background? Do you recommend AI4R -> KBAI -> AI? This video was super helpful on learning more about AI4R.

  • @markschulman5669
    @markschulman5669 6 дней назад

    I thought this was a mandatory course. How did you graduate from OMSCS if you dropped this course? Also, I appreciate your candidness. Sometimes things get to be overwhelming and dropping is the right decision.

  • @markschulman5669
    @markschulman5669 6 дней назад

    I agree with Paul's assessment. Don't expect to come out of this course with the ability to make money in the market. However, it is a great course to improve your Python skills, and not as difficult as some other OMSCS programming courses. I recommend this course early in the program to ensure Python proficiency and then try to tack some of the more difficult courses such as AI and RL.

    this course is just brutal lol

  • @markschulman5669
    @markschulman5669 7 дней назад

    How closely are KBAI and AI related? Given AI is the more difficult of the two courses, would taking KBAI first be a good way to prep for AI? I am starting this fall and trying to sequence the courses from least to most difficult meaning RL will likely be last. Thanks for the great videos on OMSCS courses.

    The “shield” on the SSDs is a heatsink which is why it’s metal and has the “spikes” which increase surface area for dissipating heat. Some NVMe drives need a heatsink, some don’t, so it’s better to keep them cool. The tower + fan is the CPU cooler that uses conduction + convection to pull heat from the CPU. This workstation has an Intel Xeon which can get hot enough that it needs good cooling to avoid thermal throttling and/or getting damaged from overheating. IMO every software developer should build a PC at some point. Understanding basic computer hardware can be very useful for saving time with troubleshooting if/when something goes wrong and it’s also a great way to save money.

    Thanks for the video. There are nearly no videos and absolutely no reviews of this laptop to find so this is helpful. I’d be interested on how battery life and performance is doing on an average developer day, you now, coding, building stuff, running containers, have a few teams videocalls, do some browsing. How long does the battery keep up and did you notice any heat issues like loud fan noise or throttling of the CPU?

    • @coolstercodes
      @coolstercodes 13 дней назад

      So far no heat issues or loud fan noises, battery life is pretty good actually and it keeps its charge (will leave it unopened for a few days and come back and battery is still pretty full)

Glad to see you're a Microsoft employee, that is my dream company. How did you get an interview? I have been trying to get an interview at Microsoft for a while now but alas no dice. Is this your first engineering job out of college? Thanks for your channel! Your content is super interesting and enjoyable

      Yes! You most certainly can! I myself worked with a cmE undergrad student in one of my group projects, and he was doing great My best advice would be to do some kind of personal website or project you can talk about on your resume, maybe like a portfolio website about yourself, or passion project, it will help you get that programming experience and help you get in!
