Добавлен 26 фев 2008
Hi, My name is Jon "Jughead" Counsell. Follow along as Dakota and I explore the wonderful flying qualities of the classical C-170 flying throughout the beautiful Pacific Northwest. From riverbars, mountain strips, STOL competitions, to hunting wide open spaces I will take you there in N4497B.
I've been flying since I was a kid and have had the pleasure to fly over 70 types of aircraft throughout my career. My experiences from flying supersonic USAF F-15C, T-38s, formation airshow flying in the L-39, teaching aerobatics and upset prevention recovery in Extra 300's to JetRanger helicopters, corporate jets and flying for a major US airline has led to the skills and confidence to truly maximize the capabilities of my stock 1955, C-170B
Dakota is a 5 year old pure-bred Black Lab that specializes in Upland Hunting, flying, biking, hockey, playing in the snow and being the best four-leg friend I guy could ask for. Come fly with us and share our adventures

Love going along on your flights, Bye the way which aircrafts did you fly in the military?
Dot, Thanks for coming along on the adventures. I flew the F-15C, T-38A/C, T-37, T-6, T-34 and EA-11
Wow really cool.
Always enjoyable riding with you! Thanks for sharing!
Hey Jughead, which airport was that you took off from in the morning?
Lonepine, MT Carson Field,
St. Ignatius has a must see Catholic Mission. Next time you stop there, definitely grab a vehicle and go see it. Jaw dropping!
Thanks for sharing that info. I will definitely plan to do that in the future.
What an amazing valley to live in! That opening view makes me want to move even more!
You and me both.
hell i was there yesterday on my way back home in my p337 stopped long enough to get fuel like 8 am take a ahem and haul ass. was sitting back her ein omak washington last night , needed to call customs but no biggy, took a friend of mine and his wife to lil community up in the artic circle. dropped them off and hauled ass home not fondo f alaska lol too many bugs
It would be nice to see the Columbia eventually diverted from Portland to California
The hell it would! California completely mismanages the water it has. They have no chance of getting ours.
@@Jugheadf15 why just let it flow out the ocean when that polluted water could grow frankenfruit in Cali?
4:23 Beehive Burner (Though South of the border you guys called them other names) their days are long past, most places have banned their use and now they only stand as a reminder of what once was. When I worked in the bush in the late 1980s there were still a few in use in North Western Ontario. There was one strip we flew in and out of that we used the glow from the top to lead us home at dusk.
Thanks Glenn
Great views! Awesome flight!
Just beautiful scenery
"Only a few knuckheads..." :D
You certainly picked a beautiful stretch of weather. It's on my bucket list to visit the northwest again - maybe we'll cross paths
Very cool flight though...
So just a note... The "smelter" was a "dawdust" burner in what was once a sawmill...
Thanks, I was pretty sure "smelter" was the wrong term, but I didn't know the true nature of that structure either. I was hoping someone would speak up. Thanks for watching and teaching me something.
Thanks for the journey! Always enjoy your share of where you are and what's below! Thanks for the ride!
I think it's really cool the way. You have so many different environments that you fly in.
That is my favorite part of flying in Washington. And it really applies the the entire PNW.
4:14 I'm jealous of that 2550 lbs Gross Weight! My '61 172B has a gross weight of 2250 lbs; I need to put in the bigger 180hp Lycoming so I can bump mine up.
Fun. Nice photography too.
Great video thankyou!!
Thanks for sharing, always enjoyable!
Poor doggy.
Looks like the dog was left behind!?!?
When I fly into a tight bar. I usually do it the first time without Dakota.
Love that spot landing and almost grazing the water!
wow, I have never laughed so hard, but it does show experience is a winner .
Right! Pretty amazing to see her land his airplane shorter than he could :)
I'm so tempted to fly down from AK to give you guys a run for your money.
It would be great to have you come down and compete.
Wow, nicely placed in the unfamiliar aircraft! I’m guessing getting to fly such a variety of A/C over time helps.
Yes, it definately helps. Though I have flown a couple similar 170s
Sweet, I got a promotion! 😂 great video jughead, that was a lot of fun.
August 24/25. Independence OR STOL WARS. It is a great event with a really cool but small fly-in.
that was one of the best videos that you have made . now played it a number of times .
Thanks David.
@@Jugheadf15 will you be at the 170 convention?
@@davidnelson4707 no I won’t
I’ve been kicking this idea around for a long time. I’m intimidated by all of the springs and small parts in the frames, especially since I have articulating seats. What did you do to get everything back the way it was supposed to be? I do have a Parts Catalog.
The seats are actually very basic in terms of components and parts. Take pictures of everything before you take them apart and as you are taking them apart. Bag and label all the parts as necessary. Good Luck. Thanks for watching and reaching out. I have a small discount coupon still available if you are inteterested, send me your mailing address.
"I've never had a map fail me." Love it!
Thanks for hopping on the mic with us! Excited to see part 2!
Hour and a half! Sweet!
Just say disaster in a airplane video and you will get lots of views.
Great vid, per usual. Looks like you're down a few pounds? Looks good.
Always good stuff!
You are truly blessed my friend. What a life?! From Eagle driver to spectacular views from your 170 with the most awsome co-pilot on the planet! Love your videos and hope to meet u someday. Carry on sir!
Awesome. Love when Dakotacaomes to help out. Is he doing your call-outs? “Airspeeds alive”
AWESOME video! So glad you took your son along! He's such a good boy!
I just noticed you have added much larger tires. That's great. I was concerned about your previous tires being too small for off airport use.
Yes, I added 31" Bushwheels. I didn't really add them because I needed them for off-airport use. The 8.5 and also my 26" Goodyears were more than adequate for 90% of my off-airport ops. I really needed them for increased AOA for STOL competitions and the ability to deal with desert shrub/bunch grass.
Yeah, but they look so cool. @@Jugheadf15
corection on the mis spelling of your last name in my comment - meant Mr." Counsell"
Mr Cancel you really make it interesting and have alot of fun winding down from your 737 week to your 170.I love taildragers thats what i learned to fly in and your videos are super.
Thanks for watching Sky and for the nice comments.
I am based out of 7S3. Will be sorry to see this plane leave Twin Oaks. It is a beautiful airplane. The plane came up for sale last summer. Good to hear she found a good new home in MT
We don’t need no stink’n paper charts!😂
You missed the centerline, haha!
thank you for a great 3 parts of your ferry flight .Enjoyed each one . Great country MT.
Love the narration. Really helps to understand what we're seeing and feel like we're there with you. Nice job.
Thank You Martin
Paper charts! I always have them as well.
Nice looking bird. That's for the tour
That is an incredible airplane.
